My grandmom, my parents my siblings, most of the people I know, would call that hotline and send the thing back if it didn't work in their CD player. My mom's not going to settle for it only playing in her car, and not on her PC. She doesn't have anything in the house but a PC to listen on. It's a good think they chose a mediocre albumn to start with, so that the backlash won't be too bad. I mean, if they'd have chosen a potential best seller, they'd be wading through returned CD's within a month.
It probably breaks about 15-20 other things in the process and passes them off by calling them features. It also probably bloats the program even more, prompting people to buy new machines, since theirs are now slow, and low and behold, MS has sold some more copies of XP! Woohooo.
Does this mean that we'll have to upgrade our DVD drives every 4 months because their "obsolete" or "MS integrates IE 5 with DVD drives" or "MS has a hotfix for DVD security hole number 348647285"?
But, there's the overhead of going through the DDK API, so if speed is an issue, there's more potential for keep it fast or increasing the speed by hacking the kernel itself. I do agree about being to partial, though. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
This should give someone the idea to start making designer PC boxes in Burled Walnut or Cherry to match your home's decor. You can have designs carved into the side, and put coasters on top so you don't get rings in your case from your cold mug of beer!
This is the same type of behavior that got MS in trouble with the DOJ. They were using a monopoly (windows) to leverage another (attempt to get IE to take over the market). Now they're at it again, but the issue of monopoly isn't as clear cut. They obviously don't have a monopoly in the ISP area, but they are using what they do have to leverage their other products, specifically email clients. While this is legal, it's kinda scary how much it resembles their previous illegal actions.
I'll take a REAL cat for free and save my $1500 to spend on an entertainment center when my REAL cat chews up the power cords on what i have and hacks a fur-ball in the VCR slot.... (always looking for a good excuse to get more A/V toys)
Now, listen to what you've just said, and imagine only paying half of what you paid or even gettting all that for free. That's what competition can do for the consumer.
There's only one foreseeable problem with Moore's Law.... Reaching the theoretical limits of the architecture. While this trend does seem to be continuing, at some point technology used in the architecture or the architecture itself will have to be changed as. The technologies used in the current computer architecture are reaching their theoretical limits, so to continue the trend proposed by Moore's Law, some great advancements will have to be made. This is why some of these stories about 20Ghz are so amazing, or promising at least.
I think I'll just register every letter of the alphabet and charge you all a per letter fee for writing anything! This is rediculous. Why would you change your name to something like Yahoo anyway? You might as well call yourself "Bufoon" or "Over Zealous Idiot".
One, maybe two problems. If you forget your charger enough to want this as a solution, you'll probably forget the fuel cell. Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a car charger and be done with it? I mean a charger is a charger is a charger...
Okay... nevermind... methane is plentiful, but i still like the kinetic charger idea... it works for watches, so some improvement should make it work for cell phones.
Fuel cells are fine and dandy, but shouldn't we be coming up with things like better batteries or kinetic chargers to charge batteries while we move? They've just given us another way to expedite the depletion of our natural resources.
I agree that ARMs are good... thats what runs some of those fancy cell phones. The question is, will Transmeta be better? I think I'll let other guinnie pigs find out for me, before i just go diving right in.
Of course there should be team work in college CS and Comp Eng. departments. During my undergrad, we had several group projects, after all, college is suppposed to help prepare you for the real world. There should also be individual projects where you do your own work. That way, when you do get into the real world, you won't be dependent on the rest of your team, and you might be the person the rest of the team comes to for info on certain topics, since you have an expertiese of it from your individual learning. Also, there's a great sense of accomplishment from completing a project that's all your own.
At least not until the country is done building more planes, bombs, guns, cruise missles, light armored vehicles, helicopters, etc. to allow the bin Laden family to finally cash in on that life insurance policy.
And ladies and gentlemen... here we have a real live NON READER... they don't even know what country the thing will be in... but you'd have to read the article for that...
Now I LOVE my video card, and it runs every game i want to as quickly as i want, so I won't be getting this anytime soon... I'd rather skip several cards and spend the money on a cool trip or a cruise. If everyone would resist the temptation to have the latest and greatest, then maybe they wouldn't release new stuff every other day. Then maybe that $600 card you just bought would be obsolete in a month. I know this will never happen, so i guess i'm just talking to a wall again...

But he said "studios could put all the Godfather movies or an entire musician's discography on a single CD."

Could you imagine....
a Beowulf cluster of these!!!!
160 PCI slots... that would be great for having 100 joysticks to have a massive multiplayer flight-sim game on about a 500 inch monitor!

How are oil prices going to effect my purchasing (or naturally producing) methane?

Atlanta's "Varsity" restaurants will start having charging stations next to the bathrooms...

Homer Simpson gets sucked into a black hole and ends up in our world, so if we get sucked in, do we end up in Springfield?

Which brings back to a simple truth which, by the way, has made Bill Gates Billions.... The average user is an idiot.
