Thank you for saying that. I could never imagine Apple going away from OSX to Windows. This has to be for some type of virtualizatino optimization or emulator so that you can run Windows apps on OSX. You can already run PPC apps on Intel, through Rosetta. How hard would be to "wine" it...
People reject OpenOffice and reject even Mac, because they don't know any different. They have been "programmed" to use Microsoft Windows, therefore, until they are told different, they will continue to use Microsoft Windows.
We can sit around all we want and say stuff like "when people get tired of (malware|viruses|spyware|whateverelse)" they will switch to (Linux|Mac).
It's just not true. People will switch when they are told to. Nothing else. Until Companies FORCE people to switch, there will be no switching.

What about Pages? I use Pages for everything, then export my final document to Word format for all those "Commoners" that use Word out there.

I don't see why this service wouldn't work. I'd love to say "AWW! Forgot to set my TiVo to record 24! Let me call my TiVo."
Although I can't fancy seeing me paying 5 dollars a month for this functionality. (Disclaimer: I don't have a TiVo) I'd be more apt to be able to log into a web interface and do it. ( i don't know if you can do that now ).. Hopefully one of the OpenSource Guru's has a free way to do this not long from now.
You know, I am an OSS guy as much as most of the people on Slashdot. I would love all software to be free, but then companies wouldn't make any money.
But if closed source polls can't get it right, what makes us think that OSS polls can? Again, I'm a big OSS advocate, and I would love to see OSS in the role for everything under the sun. I don't think the public would know, however, if people were using OSS polls or a closed source poll. Nor do I think they would care...
but I would be willing to be that they would be more secure than their closed counterparts I know i have read somewhere of someone hacking a voting machine..
But it all falls back on the basis of all software problems. The (software|hardware) is only as smart as the person operating it.
Seems like everything is Open Source now. (No, I am not complaining, i am backing it)
We have Routers, Firewalls, IDS/IPS's, OS's, Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Presenting software. Hell. I would love to see an experiment where an entire corporate network was made, entirely of Open Source products (except for the hardware of course). From Routers to firewalls to.... You name it.
That would be an interesting, and totally free network. Also very complicated

I see everyone has overlooked something grossly disgusting.
The new RSS reader looks EXACTLY like Safari (although Safari's is better looking thank god) but the way it renders RSS!? It's exactly the same! Apple, Go sue.
If you play a song you have downloaded from iTunes, it will recommend stuff that is similar. If you play a song that is ripped off, it just displays the most downloaded tunes for ALL of iTunes. Not yours. Test before talking.
Haven't they always been? Can't you put PPC Linux on a exisiting mac? But why would you want to? What can you do on a Linux box that you can't do on a mac?
They should lock it so that MacOS can run on anything but nothing can run on Macintoshes but OSX. That might sacrifice a bit of performance and apple wouldn't like that. But it would introduce a subset of people to OSX and therefore, they will in turn, like it or not, and if they like it, chances are, they will buy a Mac.
I am right handed. Have a powerbook and have USB on both sides. I plug my Mouse into the left mouse port with the cord ran around the back. (I do that just to get rid of all that cord)
I disagree. I think the Metal look is exclusively Apple. I think Apple should stick with it, it's industrial, new, and beautiful looking. I wish they would make a Metal iPod.
15 to 30 seconds? Did you mistype seconds and meant to type minutes? If I had to pause every 15 to 30 seconds to look out the window for a few seconds, I would be accused of daydreaming.:)

Um.. ANYTHING installed over Windows ME is an improvement. Hell, Going backwards would be an improvement.

I'm surprised that's not on the list.

Screw law enforcement. What about backdoors period. Not that I am a paranoid guy
but I am reminiscent of the Black Hat/ISS debacle.

How do I get Quake 3 to run on a Mac? OMFG! LOLZ!!!
1)Put in CD
2)Double click on CD that is mounted and appears on Desktop
3)Drag executable from CD to Applications Folder
4)Drink a beer.
Thank you, apparently no one was paying attention when i stated that it wasn't ripped off a CD, but ripped off. Limewire style.
Clarification -- Ripped off in my defination does not mean "Ripped off a CD", I mean ripped off as far as Limewire..etc..
I've tried it several times to get it to do it. Doesn't do it.
No it doesn't.

I think that MacBook IS stupid. the iBook and the iMac were for regular users. the POWERbook and the POWERmac were for pros. It's a stature thing.

Delorean was indeed ahead of his time. 1985 was the last year? So sorry to see the DMC go like it did.
