When you say that Motley Fool is "still fairly new", what do you mean precisely? I remember signing up back in about 1998, when I was a foolish schoolchild and actually gave them real data. I then got physical junk mail from people wanting to help me manage my portfolio (but only taking clients who were prepared to invest at least 100.000 dollars).
This is one example of a case where the English and American spellings are the same, and the only distinction is between those who know how to spell and those who don't. Also, FWIW, I'm British.
No, a council is an administrative body, such as the group of elected councillors who get to spend council tax. A counsel is, depending on context, a piece of advice or a lawyer.
You're missing the point. Part of the editors' job ought to be to fix errors in submissions before posting them. It's excusable that the submitter not know the correct spelling, but the editor should spot it and correct it.
I used woody on my desktop. There probably were bleeding edge apps which I couldn't run, but I didn't notice because the woody repositories included everything I needed except for Java.
There's another aspect you haven't taken into account, which is that Debian gave you the option of running a fairly-stable unreleased version. People who wanted to live on the bleeding edge could choose so to do. In fact, given the common advice with Windows versions to wait for SP1, it may be fairer to compare Debian testing versions with Windows releases.
As a Debian/KDE user I've watched the discussions about KDE 4 on/. with mild bemusement. I'm sure I'll find out in a couple of years whether it adds anything useful (IMAO) to KDE 3.5. For now I'm happy that I can go back to being a Deb stable user, having being forced to use testing for the past year in order to get support for my graphics card.
You never need to turn to unofficial sources for the current law.
That is an advantage of being in a young country. English law stretches back several centuries and there is no complete, official, and accessible source for the whole of it.
Sure. I'm not claiming that Popper is the only philosopher of science. My objection is that GGP seems to be accusing GGGP of making up Popperism to support his position. It's one thing to say "Ok, your philosophy of science is this but it has these flaws, and this one is better" and another to say "You're making up words to suit yourself".
Any definition of "theory" is made up, because English is a human construct. Falsifiability is a key part of Popper's philosophy of science. Popper's own views on Darwinism appear to have changed over time.
100s of nanoseconds? Luxury! When I were young you had to store your data as sound pulses in a tube full o' mercury. You had to wait 100s of milliseconds for the pulse to reach the other end. Tell that to kids nowadays, they won't believe you.

The joke works a bit better if you remember to mention at the start that the man is blind.
No, just trying to avoid a complete and utter surrender to cynicism.

You mean like this or this?
The word you're looking for is "counsel", not "council".
So? It works.
xkcd-èd? Use HTML escapes. The obvious route (type them) fails to slashcode's inability to deal with non-Basic Latin characters.
I'm sure teenage girls in the area would consider it a tragedy. They might have to wait hours for phone coverage to be restored.

In this case I think it means "This has been posted verbatim dozens of times this week. It's not novel in any way, shape, or form."
Some of us have indecent hardware, you insensitive clod!

He's plainly mad anyway. Any sane person who wanted a way to make plastic without using oil would simply ask McDonald's for their cheese recipe.
I drowned it. Simple, fairly quick, and not much mess to clean up afterwards.
Plan old spring loaded mouse traps work great, and kill it instantly.
Most of the time. I did once have one catch a mouse by the mouth without crushing its brain, and I found it struggling in the morning.
And that you're alive. Except in Chicago.

Hah! You almost caught me with that link, but as George W put it, "Fool me once..."

When I learnt to drive I was taught that when you slow down you should always tap the brake to give a signal to the person behind you.
