I don't think it sucks its just being abused and newsgroup was not designed to handle some of the large sized files out there. Ever since really the DVD burner came out the DVD groups have become huge and you cannot expect the ISP's free newsgroups to keep up in that way(not much of an argument).

Specificallly TW/Road Runner has like a 2-4 day retention of posts than they start becoming corrupt fast. Sometimes it almost seems like in the DVD ones they block it intentionally so that it is missing a couple of PAR2 blocks just short of recovery. The coastal elite seem to have better newsgroups as compared to those in the in the middle region of the U.S..

Dont you think the programs out there made it too easy for users to get the illegal files and doesn't present any challenge like we used to get 'in the old days'. I liked the private days when things were kept small and it was a little more time consuming or challenging to get the file.
See we used to sneak into our local $2 cinema and the guys would not care who were standing way at the other end; the only reason they set a guy up there and later secured the doors even more was because everybody started abusing it and sneaking in.

I have no pity for torrent users who blatently use it to trade illegal files on ridiculous scale but this is the internet of course. Yah I know call me a hypocrite but I am looking at cold-hard reality here and things have just gotten too large and easy for the average user. Used to involve like 20 clicks now it takes two simple clicks to get the file; terrible example I know.

You are so right but I think Microsoft will hopefully be forgiving and not be that restrictive. From what I can tell you would really just have to call them up and have a little patience on the phone; while they maybe give you a new key or reset the original one as you can give them a simple honest explanation. I know you can do that with XP if you ever had serious problems and have the original package or proof of purchase.
Virtual Machine worries me though because they are basically forcing you to use Remote Desktop feature available in the upgrade packages only.

Personally I have never payed for windows 1.0,3.0, 95, 98, 2k and now XP. It has given me access to the world and lots of people who use it; it has had its trouble in the days but with good user care the OS works wonders and has provided unlimited time to do millions of different things. As much as Slashdot plays the fear-mongering card of DRM/BSOD/Bugged it has really not been invasive and a great majority of Windows users go on with their lives enjoying the over all good that outweighs the bad.

After the little fiasco with WindowsUpdate which WGA was the only problem because I had a pirated version. I am now ready to actually buy Windows because of what NT/XP have shown to be a good product as much hating goes on here about it. Other users who paid for it legally enjoyed the OS even with WGA they went on using it like they regulary did and got their updates on time except for me and many other pirates. Not that non-tech people care about updates anyway, I just kind of wish I had paid for XP in the beginning and not have to go through the hassle of getting an on-time update from MSupdate.

I think the majority over time will move on and updgrade their OS to Vista; although the minority will put up a very vocal fight on the message boards.

Time Warner's Triple Play package is very attractive to people in price and it includes broadband and voip phone; it suckers them into buying the whole package ditching the phone companies. Satellite may not have phone and broadband; but I think they make up that in more quality content and options.

The product can do all it wants but when you do not have a guy knocking on your door the next day because the night before something went wrong, well than that leaves a bad stain. Especially trying to phone order a UFC/PPV fight and not being able to get it in time can dissapoint a whole audience who came over with lots of alcohol.
