Well said. The article would lead one to believe that the only events of consequence would be "life changing" events (birth, death, marriage, winning the lottery... hopefully not in that order). Just being there would cause changes to the timeline. If the past is read-only, maybe our only way witness it is by video cameras.

"Fading into the ether" seems to be based Back to the Future. Is that model of reality correct? If something was to occur in the timeline and prevent someone from being born, why would they suddenly fade away? Would they ever have existed in the first place? If they were never born we would have no memory of them...
Once a buddy of mine claimed that sitting in front of a computer screen is the worst thing you can do to your eyes... Another buddy immediately chimed in and argued, "that can't be the WORST thing you can do to your eyes. What about putting them in the center of the sun???"
It is funny how people tend to overstate "facts" that are obviously incorrect.
I know this is off-topic, but the easiest way to control population is to make sure there is easy access to birth control (i.e. The Pill, Vasectomy, etc...) I had a vasectomy in November 2004 and consider it the best thing I've done for myself (of course I already have my few kids). It is not painful and the rewards are awesome, I highly recommend it!!!
I want that holographic table from Star Wars (either episode 1 or 2). The table that had the projectors above that displayed the battle... That would be cool!
