Slashdot reviewed Fred Brook's classic The Mythical Man Month way back in 1998. This book was actually written in 1975 based on is experience in the 1960's... so while the/. review is 6 years old, it still holds true today and applies in this situation IMHO...
I was confused by this statement in the article - " The breeders decided not to keep Fuji's fin on all day fearing that it may fall off and be eaten or destroyed by other dolphins." - I've read that sharks will eat just about anything, but do dolphins eat rubber?
The article mentioned "researchers successfully sent data from Switzerland to Tokyo at speeds of 7.21 gigabits per second"... and if they want to watch the traffic for "neferious" content, that is gonna require one heck of a Network IDS (Intrusion Detection System - SNORT is a popular open source IDS) to keep up... and the vast majority of the traffic will be about as exciting as watching grass grow

I don't want to takes side in the gun-debate, but will point out there are no plans to add "shooting" (except for pictures) to the Christmas Lights Webcam
The B-52B (tenth off the assembly line) first flew on June 11th, 1955 and among other things, has carried the X-15, Shuttle solid rocket booster, and finally the X-43A (on the same pylon as used by the X-15). Read more about the ol' BUFF at NASA.
I have a fairly complex halloween decorations and christmas lights setup (includes X10 controls for the lights and a webcam), but I leave the VCR programming up to my wife.
The article says it may go as far south as Oklahoma, but I haven't seen anything yet here in Colorado, although I did see some pretty nifty Aurora Borealis over Boulder, Colorado last year.
While the prime number page is a bit odd (obligatory half-hearted pun), the author is Steve Litt who wrote Samba Unleashed... plus there's already 40+ posts on the article, yet his web site is still pretty snappy despite the/. crowd...
BTW, the first bazillion prime numbers HAVE been calculated, so for those/.'ers with spare CPU cycles, consider something perhaps more worthwhile such as Folding@HOME
The Open Directory Project (ODP) at dmoz.org is the "largest human-edited directory in the world" and is "owned" by AOL since it came from Netscape... although it's mostly community volunteers helping out, although AOL provides hardware and some staffing assistance.
For those that don't know him, Hal Stern has been associated with Sun for a long time and is one of the "sharp good" guys IMHO. He's written several Sysadmin related books including the classic "Managing NFS and NIS" and here's a 1995 Sysadmin article where he dives into adb - clearly a technical guy who knows his stuff... although the article is more about marketing and pricing.
Looks like you gotta wade through each page (rather than be able to jump to the end)... so for those interested in just seeing the conclusions, click here to go directly to page 6 where they write:
Pros: Good performance, easy to assemble a system, better than average expansion options. Quiet.
Cons: No BIOS tweaks possible. Mere 200W PSU. Poor onboard audio.
Yep - that's why I said "minor" nit... I kinda wonder what the "worst case" situation would be - i.e. Earth 90 degrees outa "rotation sync" with Jupiter (other affects such as orbital plane and non-"circleness" of the orbit are probably very minor) would result in how much of the (true) sunlit side not visible from Earth - here's a hacked up ASCII diagram of what I'm trying to say - not to scale!;-)
I would have added "when viewed from Earth" to the "rare triple eclipse... happens about once a decade" commentary since with planetary spacecraft, we might see these eclipse pictures pop up more frequently.
The article also says "They then combined the images into one single picture to show more details of the planet and its moons"... maybe I should send 'em my Hulk Lunar Eclipse Pictures since it would be cute to combine the Big Green Guy with the Big Gas Giant.

Got it - so never play RoShamBo with a dolphin!

Since yours is static, maybe you could talk to the MirrorDot folks and see if they would host it.
P.S. I just turned on the environmental senors for the christmas webcam, so stop by if you want a real-time look at Colorado weather.

P.S. When I first tried to read this story, I got "Nothing for you to see here. Please move along" ... somewhat ironic I'd say ...
Probably where this comment will be modd'ed too! ;-)

After reading his comments and looking again at the article, I said "oooops, I goofed" ... and Cnet musta goofed too ... BUT Now CNN is also reporting that Microsoft is getting in

The Incredible Hulk had fun with his halloween decorations but that's a warmup for his christmas lights where he plays RoShamBo when not helping out Google Compute.

The halloween webcam shuts down in 20 minutes - your last chance to vote for Hulk for President and try to DDOS that site ...
