    I disagree.

Flash is a hack, works like a hack and has the performance to match.

    For instance:
    1. Right-clicking a Flash object doesn't work consistently with other browser functions
    2. If the Flash object has focus, normal browser shortcuts don't work (ctrl-t for a new tab, etc)
    3. You can't search text inside Flash, at least not using the browser text search functionality
    4. Flash movies and animations are horribly inefficient, even in Flash's main platform, Windows
    5. Flash is traditionally much less stable than the browser it's running on

I don't know what purpose or what audience you were referring to, but flash does not "work well", and that's becoming ever more evident in the face of new standardized web technology such as AJAX and SVG.

Users installing from the Ubuntu 9.04 Release Candidate may wish to avoid this problem by using the default ext3 filesystem and converting it to ext4 after release.

Living room: turn on/off once per day but stays on for a long time, each time.
Bathroom: turn on/off many times per day, but stays on for short periods of time.

My point is that being on is what deteriorates the lightbulb in the long term, not the action of turning it on. The momentary stress of turning it on will kill an already deteriorated lightbulb, but it's leaving it on all the time that deteriorates it to reach that point.

They do not provide the games for free. They mention that this opens up different pricing models for games, but certainly make no promises on being able to try games out for cheap.

You're right. It'd probably make it easier to try out the game (no downloads), but the main problem remains.

I guess you missed their wireless controller, and microconsole. If a game requires accessories with today's systems, why would they not require them with this one? This does absolutely nothing in terms of reducing controller accessories, and if you have the microconsole, doesn't help in the wires & stuff department either.

It may not eliminate the wireless controllers, but it does reduce the number. At least you (theoretically) don't have to have two controllers for the XBox + 2 for the PS3 + Classic controllers for the Wii.

Likewise, if the acessories are simmilar (play guitars come to mind) you'd only need one. I seem to remember a lot of bullshit surrounding instruments from Guitar Hero and Rock Band which were basically the same, but made deliberately incompatible (not sure if that got resolved though).

Why would I willingly embrace single-player gaming in the same poor environment?

Because it's both much cheaper and convenient for the average person than the alternative: having all the most recent consoles and the game library.

Not to speak of other benefits such as:
    1. Not having to risk buying crappy games (even if they had a good demo)
    2. Not having to have n consoles hooked up to your tv
    3. Not having to manage n*x different controllers/acessories, most of them wireless, meaning you must keep them charged

For me the benefits outweigh the disadvantages (I'm not an avid player), I'm just suspicious if they can pull it off technically and as with all recent media subscription models, I'm expecting that I will find the prices to be too high.

This is for Portugal, because it's where I know the law better. There, the law states that in public you must be minimally dressed. I don't know what exactly "minimally" means, but I know it includes a shirt of some kind.

As I said before, there are exceptions for places such as beaches and the areas around them, and probably some sport venues.

Basically the law exists because the country has such a nice weather, which can also become quite hot during the summer, that otherwise men would be walking around the cities shirtless.

Lawmakers decided that that would go against their view of a nice society so they made these rules which are generally ignored except to keep the offenses to a minimum.

For that reason you still have your construction workers shirtless, and your teens going home after sport practice with their shirts over their shoulders.

But you're sure as hell going to get stopped if you're going around the city shirtless in your day-to-day life.
