I see a lot of posts about how the camera looked like an RPG especially if you didn't already know it etc. That is no excuse. We are watching a low resolution b/w video, yet from the soldier comments it is obvious they can see details that are not visible to us, i.e. they can see pretty well and I would think they would be in a much better position than us to recognise weaponry (soldiers get some training in weapons, right?).
From their actions later in the video (saying a van stopped to pick up weapons) it is quite obvious to me that the trigger-happy immoral hicks on that hellicopter were simply making things up to get permission to shoot. It was mass murder, not war.

Authentic Intel Core i7 processors contain a number of innovative technologies to improve performance. Core i7 chips have an integrated triple-channel memory controller. They also replace the archaic front-side bus architecture with Intel's new QuickPath Interconnect system, and use hyperthreading to turn the Core i7's four physical processor cores into eight virtual cores.

A fake processor would most likely not have these cutting edge advantages, resulting in inferior performance compared with the authentic Intel processor.

Apparently for some people the difference between an i7 and a piece of scrap metal is some innovative technologies that improve performance!

I personally build almost all my family's and my company's PC's, from simple $300 desktops to $5000 servers and the only cases where I have bought pre-built (hence the "almost all") were towards the latter ($5k) category. I find it much more important to built a cheap pc yourself, because you control exactly where the limited budget goes and you end up with a much better pc for your intended use for the money.

Radeon 4790? Where do you suggest he finds that?
I assume you mean Radeon 4890, which is at around $200 although at limited availability.
Still, I would suggest he gets the cheaper but more future-proof Radeon 5770. He might want to run DX11 in the future, or eyefinity.
Actually, if he really means Oblivion-level games only, and does not expect to start playing any newer stuff, even the 5770 is overkill and he should go for the $80 Radeon 5670 I see on NewEgg right now, or lower still...
Next on, your answer suggest that you don't consider sub-$200 processors as a valid market. Sorry to have to wake you up, but for most people (e.g. those wanting to run Oblivion and output to 1080p) an Athlon II X3 or X4 at under $100 is more than enough. In fact, the entire pc that fits OP's description should cost around $300-.

I am a proud owner of a N900 for a week now. It is the first time a phone truly amazes me, and that is of course all thanks to the OS. I am a mobile developer, so I have so far developed for and owned BREW, Symbian and iPhone OS devices. I liked developing for the iphone, hated the other two, but from a user standpoint I did not enjoy any device, since even browsing was painful (no, I don't consider the iphone's ultra low res usable), and they wouldn't let me do much more than that.
Enter the N900. Android is not a unix machine in your pocket, it is a jvm running java apps on top of a unix kernel, when Maemo is a full debian based distro. Things like opening several browser windows, running apt-get install in the background and switching (kind of expose-style) between them is easy on the device. With an 800x480 res and a full browser (Mozilla based with flash and everything) it is the first time I can browse from a phone (as I am doing right now). As a developer I really appreciated that I could do "apt-get install subversion", sync with my svn server and edit my code with vim.
Don,t get me wrong, I also like android and usually recommend something like a nexus one to nom-power users, but I am sure the average slashdotter would really get excited with Maemo, not android.

There is no "blurriness", the movie is as blurry (at out of focus sections of the screen) as any other movie. Without the glasses it looks "blurry" as it is two superimposed images, but separating them is simply a function of the polarizing glasses - it doesn't involve your brain.
Also the particular movie does not really use 3D as a "gimmic" with things flying towards the audience etc, it is just used for enhancing the user experience, so it doesn't really distract.
Moreover, you say you can't get the 3D effect and then you cite the Muppet Vision 3D, I have to tell you that I have enjoyed dozens of Imax 3D movies, yet I got very horribly dizzy at the Muppet movie's lame attempt at 3D. Looking at wikipedia it seems to be a 20 year old movie, and I bet it wasn't state of the art even then (it is a fun show though, esp. if you like the muppets). My point is, if you haven't given Imax 3D a chance, don't completely write-off 3D. And what better movie to test whether you like Imax 3D than Avatar!

PS. Obviously if you have very bad or no vision from one eye, disregard the above, as no 3D technology will help.

You are correct. The Verite had better quality from its first generation than anything out there (including 3dfx, which was definitely faster though, and with decent enough quality). At that time nVidia did not have any real products. Some time later ATI released the Rage Pro which had great visual quality, comparable to the second gen Verite with which it was competing then, and better speed at least in Direct 3D (but the ATI drivers were buggy in some games), while nVidia released the Riva 128 which was even faster than the Rage Pro, but as you say, at a rather "crappy" image quality. As those were the 3D technology "infant" years, benchmarks were all that seemed to matter to people, hence the Riva 128 sold more than the rest thanks to those numbers. But the fact that the Verite needed its own API to shine certainly did not help, along with delays developing their third generation. As you know ATI survived even though it also lagged in benchmarks. In another perspective, perhaps all Rendition needed to do was to cheat in benchmarks, then it would have sold big and more companies would have used its API (although proprietary API's is not the way to go) ;)

PS. I have to say that at that time I bought my first ATI card (to replace an aging S3), mainly because it was the only card capable of DVD playback on my 233 MHz CPU (thanks to hardware MC) and had the best TV-out (by a long shot as I found out later after trying other solutions). So for me it was neither fps nor 3D image quality that mattered in the end... but I am not much of a gamer...
