http:www.brettspielwelt.com/ has tons of games, including Settlers, available for online play, has been around for years, and is adds new games every few months. Granted their interface is not the easiest for new people to pick up on but once you learn it is a great way to play many games to try before you buy. I have bought several games after trying them on BSW. I don't see what this version of the game has that makes it worth $30 when there are so many alternatives available. I also think it would be a real shame if Teuber allowed Microsoft to shut down all the free versions of Settlers because it is those versions which helped contribute to the game's success.
The Civ series has been one of my favorites for years now. I have probably spent more time playing Civ 2 than any other game and still remember how I failed an eye test following the weekend I received that game. Normally I have 15/20 but too many hours staring at a screen with no sleep can change that. Anyways, I know Civ 4 is in development with Sorea Jackson leading. He gave a presentation regarding franchises earlier this year and mentioned what was being developed in the new edition. I'm confused as to how this series is not making enough money. Civ 3 was a huge success in terms of sales when compared to previous versions. I only hope that the new owners can continue this great series for many years to come. I know they'll get my money the day Civ 4 is released.
I do the same thing. My family never had cable so I never really watched TV, but once I discovered BitTorrent I used it to download shows like Dead Like Me and now I subscribe to cable so I can see the shows I used to download. If I was not able to download the shows in the first place, then I would never have gotten cable.
Same for me. Between 2 computers, 2 CRTS, a halogen lamp, stereo, DSL modem, router, 2 printers, scanner, etc my room is nice and toasty all winter long. I've seen it get over 90 when it is 10 outside. Unfortunately this really sucks in the summer.
I am an accountant who is currently preparing tax returns for several states and has had to deal with this. Here is a list of the states that collect sales taxes for out-of-state purchases through income tax forms.
Alabama,
California,
Connecticut,
Idaho,
Indiana,
Kentucky,
Louisiana,
Maine,
Massachusetts,
Michigan,
New Jersey,
New York,
North Carolina,
Ohio,
Oklahoma,
Rhode Island,
South Carolina,
Utah,
Vermont,
Virginia,
Wisconsin
However, even though all these states have places to report this tax, in almost every case my firm just puts in a zero. Granted this policy may change if states become more active with enforcement, but that is our current policy. Just don't blame me if you put 0 and get audited.
When will they post which theatres will be having midnight showings? Or will there be a special early screening in select cities? I need to which theatre to go to so I can be the first one in line. That way I can be that crazy fan shown on national TV. Who cares if I have to quit my job, drop out of school, etc. Star Wars is worth it.
Microsoft has confirmed the leak....
According to the Associated Press in this article http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/business/79 41292.htm
Microsoft Corp. said late Thursday that portions of its Windows source code - the tightly guarded blueprints of its dominant operating system - had been leaked over the Internet.
Microsoft spokesman Tom Pilla said in an interview with The Associated Press that some incomplete portions of the Windows 2000 and Windows NT4 source code had been "illegally made available on the Internet."
I work in a law office and although I have never touched a typewriter, they are used all the time here. Different forms, especially those with government seals where we receive the form and just need to fill in the blanks (wills, trusts, etc) and anything with carbon copies is done much more quickly via a typewriter.
I can think of another market where backwards compatibility does matter. I have several siblings and we have all bought games for our XBox. However, now I am moving out to go to college and my other siblings will follow as the XBox 2 comes out. The XBox will be staying with my parents since they bought it for the family and there will be younger siblings who can still play it. However, I could take the games I bought with me. If I could play all my games on the XBox 2 then that would be an added incentive to buy it.

801 is not a toll free number. The toll free number are 8 followed by a pair of number, 800, 888, 877, 866, etc. 801 is just a normal area code.
