Just curious what exactly Google did to you, and why you perceive Google to be more evil then say Apple? Your always posting dozens of comments on any Google/Android article and if it wasn't for your low UID I'd write you off as another troll account. Judging by the time you invest in this on Slashdot I think you have a very personal or financial stake in this and just curious which it is.
Do you hate Google because they're not as open as you'd like (yet still more open then Apple), or do you hate Google because they are not Apple? Or are you just one REALLY old troll - in which case I tip my hat to you.
Ill never ever buy a DIR-655 again.. apparently the A series is OK, but the B sucks for one very real problem that I have been unable to fix - you cannot port forward to non DHCP addresses.
I spent hours troubleshooting this. I setup the port forward on the device (with the awesome wait 20 seconds per change feature!) in every way I could think of but no matter what i couldn't see my server. After searching Google I changed my server to a reserved DHCP IP Address. Making that one and only change my port forwarding began to work. The logic behind the way it works defies description. I've never seen anything as inane and dumb as that in a router before.
I'm posting this in the hope that I'm wrong - you seem to know this Router pretty good, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (current plan is to swap this router with my parents LInksys Wireless N Router)
What apps are it missing? I've switched from iPhone to Android and so far I'm missing.. let's see.. LuxDlx game. Granted I also have replaced it with 3 or 4 other games that pass the time..
Malware ridden? Do you mean the 3 or 4 different malware items that no longer exists on the market? Where I come from that term would indicate that a sizable chunk - let's say 50% - of apps are pure malware. Please provide proof of this claim.
Crap user experience / worst operating system? - Hard to proof or disprove that - I think it`s an amazing user experience (oh look, I don`t need to open an App to see the weather forcast, oh look, Notifications don`t suck!) and so I guess we can call it a draw.
If I was an Apple Fanboy I'd be rather embaressed by your post - your really just making your "side" look dumber.
"However you lot thinks it’s such a great idea to kill any civilian who gets in your way so maybe it won't work."
Actually I think killing civilians is horrifying hence my horror that you don't consider the idea your proposing as blood thirsty - also why I point out in your "A HA I have stumped the Americans by using Civilians" tactic can be solved with a good sniper - of course a good sniper can't prevent a small child getting in the way at the very last moment. Sorry if I shot down your awesome defense using innocents, but war sucks. Deal with it.
Soo you think someone who fires and destroys something that is putting their lives at risk is "a blood thirsty warrior, willing to justify any cost", but someone who came up with the idea of installing the light in a civilians house, putting them at risk (hey the child's room window would be perfect vantage point!) isn't?
BTW - this magical light everyone is referring to could likely be killed by a UAV or Sniper without actually killing the civilians - but the fact your willing to put them in a life or death position that requires the good will of THE ENEMY says legions about you.
I admit I had to RTFA, but after reading it I like - it seems to solve a lot of the complaints they increase screen real estate (and even more if you hide the ribbon WHICH YOU CAN), and have added a crazy amount of shortcut keys and customization options to Explorer.
Windows 8 is looking pretty good but will have to see once it goes live if it lives up to the hype they're tossing.
Force a standardized UI? I didn't realize they were removing ADW Launcher or GO Launcher or Launcher Pro from the Market. Or do you mean after listening to the ENDLESS Complaints about MotoBlur and other 3rd party crap handset makers throwing on their phone and actually wanting to do something about it then yes, yes they are.
If you want an "open" phone (Aka do whatever you want) you buy a Nexus Phone made by Google. And that is probably the most accurate definition of Open in this conversation.
Maybe if you were a plugin developer I'd be concerned, but the way you have to think about these version numbers is to move the decimal point to the left. This isn't a whole new version how coders think of it, it's really just a point release - it's like getting stressed out because Firefox released 3.6 after 3.5 (or whatever was before 3.6). It's practically a non issue.
It's not how I'd run the show but really people need to stop whining about these version numbers breaking zomgeverything. Firefox 7 will, from all accounts I've seen, render your web page EXACTLY THE SAME.
90% of users will just get an autoupdated new version anyways.
Nothing? Just because your not at war does not mean you have "nothing" to defend against. Even countries like Canada have a military - not because we are under attack by some random country, but to be in a state of readiness and to be ready in case something DOES happen.
Sad to say, wars like WW1 and WW2 you don't get a nice "hey, going to invade you in a few years, just a head's up!" (although hindsight being 20/20 it was pretty obvious what was gonig to happen) Army's to defend your country are not put together in a matter of days, it can take months or years to mobilize from a state of 0.
Not saying the US Defense budget is sane or anything, just that having a military isn't an "attack budget" by definition.
Yeah ok.. Google: Honeycomb's release is delayed, please wait for Ice Cream. However until then our PHONE OS you can poke around in. MS: You want our Source Code? Are you SERIOUS? Apple: You want our Source Code? Are you SERIOUS?
Yup, your right, Google is by far the least open of the 3 *rolls eyes*
How so? just curious where a second moon would somehow invalidate their beliefs. Oh wait this is just flamebait to get a religious discussion going and get us completely off topic. My bad!
Quake matured quite a bit over the years. From what I remember the original wasn't even 3D Accelerated - there were ports of the engine to various techs such as what 3DFX was using at the time. By the time Half Life came around (it was using Quake 1 I think, maybe Quake 2's engine..) the engine was probably far advanced beyond the original one.
Quake 1 to me stands as one of the UGLIEST games ever but also a very important game for the industry. I still remember playing the demo and thinking the weapons were probably just stand in's, never expecting that those WERE the final weapons. It's part of the reason why to this day I still fire up Doom from time to time but never Quake 1..
The biggest thing is check the permissions the app needs (it tells you) and don't install if you question why it needs that. A lot of free apps have Ad's so they require a network connection. If your installing some standard game and it asks for SMS sending capabilities - you probably shouldn't install it.
Ya um I rarely have Firefox open with less then 7-8 tabs - no noticible issues. Everything I've heard is that they've reduced memory footprint issues in 4..
Seriously if your computer can't handle more then 2 tabs open - be it Firefox, Chrome, Opera or IE, your doing it wrong.
Maybe that word means something different to you, but where I'm from that basically means "right leaning" So essentially your saying everyone that is right leaning and doesn't agree with you is a lunatic?
Ever thought maybe the minority don't speak for the majority? if an engineer started killing people does that make all engineer's murderer's? Or to use your argument - just goes to show the "left" are a bunch of closed minded people who thinks anyone that doesn't agree with them is a lunatic.
Do you also check under your bed for conservative boogy men before going to bed?
Yeah, and that reason has nothing to do with the popularity of Lacrosse. I'm Canadian, I live in Canada, and I nor anyone else I know even knows the rules to Lacrosse.
I know our schools have (had when I was growing up anyways) full Lacrosse sets but were never used since the teachers generally don't know how to play it either.
What about Bob! Oh sure some company's might steal your data, or root kit your computer, or make you wear turtle necks, but that pales in comparison to the evil unleashed known as BOB.
I'd also chime in about young whippersnappers but judging by your UID that might be.. awkard.
Smugness and wanting to point out how much you hate cellphones/smart phones aside (thank the gods for that!), I think Google's target market is those people that already use their Android product - not every single person on the planet. This is like saying NBC is dumb, because they only make products for TV's and not everyone has a TV. Numbers that I can dig up are showing that cellphone usage rates in the USA is over 80% - I think Google's safe.
Can you provide any facts to back up your claims? The only case I had where money was sapped from my account was... iTunes. Somehow my account that hasn't been accessed in months by me suddenly had activity - note I only accessed iTunes on a OSX Box. So much for security! Apple provided me GREAT service and got it fixed up, but there's an example of some actual facts. I haven't had a single penny stolen from me for using the Android Market - of course if you setup "gran" on a chinese market and tell her not to use the official Android Market you might have a point, but then you also might be as dumb as a sack of hammers.
If that's the case, kudo's to Blackberry! Hopefully Android will implement some of that - as I said Android could use some improvement and that sounds like an improvement.
I did create a new project, 100% fresh, using Eclipse. No permissions are in there by default. Even if you WERE right I have no idea what your trying to prove - sorry. The Android OS is not based on a single tutorial. Android allows you to see what permissions any application needs - something I'm not aware of ANY other OS doing. It's NOT perfect, I'd love to have more fine grained control, but to call it insecure and you won't install ANY SINGLE applications on your phone, well, that's your problem then isn't it, sure isn't mine or Googles.

FYI - I'm Canadian, not American.
Where's mod points when I need them... very nicely put, sums up my feelings but I couldn't have written it nearly as good as that.
Soo you think someone who fires and destroys something that is putting their lives at risk is "a blood thirsty warrior, willing to justify any cost", but someone who came up with the idea of installing the light in a civilians house, putting them at risk (hey the child's room window would be perfect vantage point!) isn't?

Does Chrome keep you up all night too?

Yeah, too bad Mozilla doesn't include a bug reporting feature that automatically would submit data like a version number to the developers.

No you don't, work's just fine without one (except for, obviously, accessing Google stuff)
Wow.. seriously? Your argument is they couldn't be real because they're too young to know the lyrics?
Makes me wish for the old days of good strong arguments like the Chewbacca Defense.
