  2. Re:Does anyone use SSH or TSC over this? on Experiences with DirecWay Satellite Internet · · Score: 1

I have used remote desktop over it and it is nearly unusable. If you have to, you can, but expect to quadruple your time using it. Citrix is a little better over satellite, but still hard to use. You have to wait after every click, like half a second for it to actually take place. You find yourself either waiting a lot, thinking too much about how to "beat the system" or making mistakes. SSH I have used a little over satellite, and I found it to be twice as bad as dial up, but if you are a real techy, you can understand it and even start to use it. Just waiting for the command to come back to you is painful. The hardest part is that everything you do is proxied. You can find weird errors sometimes. It seems to be a transparent proxy, but any sort of vpn or remote anything is not possible (at least with the one that we tested). Good luck with support too, I have waited hours only to hear that it is broken and we are working on it. Two days later it was back up. If you can afford it, get a digital connection, you will be much happier till you get your bill :)

I don't know the range of RFID tags, but I would assume that it can be any range depending on size, and I heard that Michelin has been or is going to put RFID tags in the tires that they produce. What is to stop someone from tracking the tires as you go down the highway. Simple database would keep track of who bought what tire and you pass within feet of the boxes on the side of the road.... This is what scares me... Call me Paranoid

I agree "if you worked for it". The problem here is that a lot of them didn't work for it. They either inherited it or won it in a ridiculous court battle. I think some of the problem with society today is that you can't always just work hard to become profitable. There are so many other factors today, and very few people actually recognize "working hard"

I agree with the above manager on all of his points, and to reiterate, do not be technical, they will not understand. It might be best to put together an outline of what "key" initiatives and improvements should be taken, and run that by your direct manager, to put yourself on the same page as your manager. Meet with him and discuss, he can help you make sure that you stay in line with what he is telling upper management. Consistency is key here for you and your coworkers to get what you need and for the company to get what they need. Also think very carefully on how to describe each of your points in a "down to earth" manner. Even though we in our minds feel like we are speaking so that everyone might understand, in reality we are talking right over their heads. Also, go have fun drink be merry, it is a double edged sword for sure, but if you take the correct precautions it can be a great thing for you and your team.
