"Imagine yourself as Trinity, downloading a new ability and instantly being able to use a new weapon"
Okay, I'll bite...
"Pistol, rifle, and submachine gun are available in the initial launch of Matrix Online. More weapons will probably be added in later game expansions."
So, I have to wait to probably download a way to pretend to download the ability to use a virtual representation of a virtual representation of more than just 3 standard game guns?
Existentialism aside, that blows. I need guns...lots of guns!
...someone make full use of the dual shock! It's like after Ape Escape and Metal Gear Solid a few years ago there haven't any fresh ideas with it. Do some more force feedback tricks, use those analog buttons, c'mon developers at least use r3 and l3.
The Parappa and Umjammer Lammy series are tons of fun and guaranteed girl magnets. Besides, any guy who can "mortify" Shigeru Miyamoto with his genius is cool in my book.
There's a great long video lecture with him over at Gamasutra (free registration required) that explains some of his game design theory.
A FPS Moonraker laser battle would rule... I wonder if it's that hard to get the rights. They even make up entirely new plots like Nightfire and Everything or Nothing rather than go with the old movies.
They tried to make Saturn for hardcore gamers and 32x for causal gamers, releasing them it just half a year apart and destroying the U.S. Saturn market. This is nothing but an expensive novelty that will distract Nintendo from the two systems they already have and the other one in development. Why couldn't they have just waited another generation and released this as the Super Virtual Game Boy Advance 64 DS SP or something?
Cause outside of Batman Vengance/Rise of Sin Tzu you're just not cutting it.
Despite some oddities, (The Fantastic Four beat 'em up anyone?) Marvel has had a pretty decent track record for licensed game properties, especially their Capcom and Activision titles. I still remember buying Spider-Man for Dreamcast and thinking two things:
"This is the best version of Spidey away from the comics...ever."
and
"Holy crap! A super-hero game done...right!"
In any case, I'll be satisfied when they finally make a GOOD game based on the Blade series.

..or is this going to play like a very low rent illiterate version of Astro City?

They had it almost perfect, just add in force feedback and maybe some slots for some Memory-Stick-esque removable media and I'd be all set.
...as soon as I finish my proposal for a new social networking app crossed with an ITunes like music store...

I didn't know SCO had a games division.
