In a word - no. He doesn't deserve this any more or any less than any other person who has put himself in such a position where his health is integrally tied into the success or failure of a company. It's news, and it's important and it will affect Apple. Why, because that's how he set it up. It is his own doing. Many, many fortune 500 companies have CEO who the public barely knows and who, if they bite the bullet, will not effect the company that much. In Jobs' case, that is not the case.
I'm not saying, wish him death or anything like that, personally I hope he pulls through this too, but his health is definitely a public matter precisely because of the position he has put himself into.
That article is total bull! I, for example, am nothing like that and I admin Unix systems all the time. In fact, I'd say that article describes a bad, stuck with old crappy methods, Unix admin.
Wouldn't a short walk *off* a long pier also suffice? I mean at least then they'd be in deeper water! Never understood that saying, well that and "head over hearls" - isn't that the natural, everyday position?
You only get taxed on SS and Medicade up to a tiny portion of what somebody like Jobs makes. And yet who will argue that what Jobs has done hasn't employed thousands of people at Apple, all of which who pay taxes? Who would argue that there is not a thriving business for iPhone accessories and "app for that" apps again putting food on many, many people's plates? How many people does that CPA employ? Is it really that unfair? One could argue that people like Jobs produce so much more for the economy and many, many people than that lowly CPA does. Now is that fair?!?
We need Jobs - many, many more jobs!
It's not abundantly clear at all. In the example you gave people were talking to you. In the Pirate Bay case nobody's talking to anybody. The HTTP request doesn't come in saying "Ya know I'll like to find some pirated illegal copyrighted stuff - you got any?". People could be using Pirate Bay to find and share legitimately uncopyrighted or open stuff. From Pirate Bay's perspective they just don't know for sure. And it's at least once removed too. A better analogy would be if say a steel maker was fulfilling and order for raw steel to be used by some manufacturing firm being held liable because that steel was used for guns and given to the Taliban. From the steel makers perspective he's just making steel and selling it. He does not know if that steel will be used for good or bad.
And while the US and other countries may have laws forbidding such things Sweden decidedly does not. That's why the Pirate Bay exists and that's why it's there. It's a sad day when countries like the US force their will and desires on other countries and the other country just bends. It's not like Sweden's waking up and saying "Ya know this law should be changed" it's the RIAA and the likes pressuring the US government who in turn is pressuring Sweden to bow down and do what the US RIAA wants them to do.
Huh? There are many solutions for streaming form a home media server not the least of which are Windows Media, things like PS3MediaServer and ushare as well as Playon, Tveristy (not sure about that one), as well as XBMC and Boxee, etc. You don't need a Wii to do it. As for many years down the road, I'm going on my 3rd year of not having cable/sat at all and doing everything from the net. It's not that hard. It's here. It's now already.
I don't understand. We all know that people increasingly use email instead of letters and Facebook et. al. instead of sending pictures or post cards. People bank on the web and don't need to send paper checks anymore. Why not simply shrink the post office if the demand's not there. Surely we can find other more intelligent things for the former postal workers to do!
50 million dollars? Where'd ja get that number - from your ass? I doubt it's 50 million for the corner bank and also 50 million for say Citibank. I've heard that 86% of all stats are made up on the spot!
No ad system will ever be acceptable to me unless it's "Opt In"!
Look, I'm internet savvy and resourceful. I can think for myself. If and when I want some product I will seek it out. None of your "throw your shit in my face" will make me want to buy your product. In fact it alienates me - IOW it has the opposite effect. Get this through your thick skull - people like me who actively use things like AdBlock are not your customers and never will be. We will seek out and buy things using the wonderful internet as a research tool if and when we - not you - determine we need your product. You'd be best to spend your ad dollars on making a stellar product!
I use to have so much fun when working in a Unix lab where engineers would physically yank the caps lock key out of the keyboard lest they might accidently hit it. When they were away from their desks and their screen lock came on I'd take a pencil and stick it gently into the removed caps lock key thus activating all caps. It would take them hours to unlock their screen!;-)
Ah the good old days...
It's interesting that if you go to wikileaks.ch it redirects to http://213.251.145.96/. IOW once in you are using IP addresses and not names. No need for DNS anymore! And nobody should care because you merely click links after that. Brilliant.
While I agree that business shouldn't get involved in politics and politics shouldn't get involved in business it's definitely clear that politics gets involved in business all the time! So the scale should be balanced IMHO.
What gives the US the right to declare a foreigner is violating it's laws when the said foreigner is a) not a US Citizen and b) not residing in the US? I mean how can you claim that a British, Australian or say Kenyan citizen is violating US laws when they are not USCs nor residing here. There's this little thing called jurisdiction at play here. People stone other people to dead in Islamic regimes as it is legal according to their laws. While both you and I find such a practice horrible, it is their law. We, for example, execute people for murder and other countries find that barbaric - yet we do not reach into Islamic countries and arrest or otherwise harass (OK the cables show we sometimes harass but you get the point) them and would not tolerate them coming into our countries and arresting our executioners, etc. Bottom line, this is not illegal no matter how much the US wishes it.

Jobs is not a private person. What he does effects Apple big time. As such, his private life is public business.

Screw that! http://godisimaginary.com./
By my calculations ($19.2/8 year/34 people) that's $70K/year!

That Bastardi!
Sony should just open source the sucker!
You mean you're just coming to this realization???
Who the fuck is this jackass and why should I listen to him? His wikipedia page is unimpressive.
Again, in a world - Lastpass!
I haven't seen any intent by the Pirate Bay guys to infringe on any copyright, do you? Show your work.

If you believe that helping the homeowners with mortgages would have magically helped stop the recession then you are woefully ignorance of economics.
