Yes all of that may be true, and I agree. But you need to understand - you should not voice any opinion that might be construed as supporting MS. Because MS is the number 1 they are the biggest target...not only of the evil hackers, but of people who want to tear em down. /sarcasm
You are correct - if say OS X was the dominant holder, more exploits would be found for them and utilized. More viruses would be written to exploit them.
Or something along this line:
"We built an OS. It is not perfect, and we do free updates to patch things up. People out there still write viruses. We are going to offer you a product to help protect from these viruses. This costs us money, and we are a business. If you want to gripe about the viruses, complain to those who MAKE the viruses."
Unless you can prove otherwise, MS did not make those viruses.
Thats a bogus statement to say the least. There are security holes that is the fault of the makers for being careless. Then there are security holes that were not foreseen (its impossible to forsee everything). Then there are the exploits that come out of the minds of twisted folks. No this is an unfair statement. It would be nice if it came as a part of the OS - but remember, each time MS bundles something with the OS people decry it is a monopoly.
There are always extenuating circumstances and that is why a jury gets to hear the case. Assuming the group wasn't lying - their options were:
1) Everyone dies
2) One person dies
Isn't that like the chicken and the egg theory? To be number one you had to have been sucessful. To say they are sucessful because they are number 1 is kinda weird don't you think?
I buy Office because I do like it, i am familiar with it, it is compatable. Even when i got lotus suite for free with my computer, or word perfect I still went and got MS Office. Even though I can use Open Office or Star office, I prefer MS Office.
Every business model is about being number 1. To control as much of the market as possible to help increase your profit margin. Microsoft just happened to be a company sucessful in this endeaver and in a very short time frame.
That's it!!!" solution while sitting outside having a quiet smoke.
Yea I can buy that. There have been plenty of times when I sat on the toilet and BANG - it hit me. I figured out the answer to my quandry. I always figured it was the cooler air from the toilet hitting my body and cooling me off (i do better in cooler weather).:)
As long as the forth guy agreed to being this evenings dinner then the other three were fine. Though man - I don't know - I might take starvation over eating a fellow human. But desparate times...
If you have your resevoir higher than your mouse then your mouse will be full of oil in a few weeks (same goes for any component connected by wire I imagine).
Get the Logitech MX-1000. Put the base on top of the computer, and never worry about an oily mouse again:)
Not that I agree, but it seems like everyone here makes their decisions according to the laws of microeconomics rather than what they really want to do.
I want to work as little as possible, make as much money as possible. I am pretty sure that most of the people here are of like mind. If they aren't then they are going against the natural order of things (which to the atomic level everything wants to be at rest).
I hope they make a carrying case better then what Toshiba has. I bought the Nylon extra large carrying backpack for my Toshiba s901 (and now for my dell 9100) each of which as a large honkin monitor. The straps are broken. THese things are heavy, and I am lucky if i get an hour to an hour and a half of battary life (running low demanding apps). But its well worth it when I can go to my friends and play all of my fav computer games (i.e. CS). It is also well worth it when I can do Flash designing on it without any probs. There will be a market for these - especially designers who are on the go.
Maybe in your company. Where I come from, mistakes happen. Even big mistakes. As long as the person was not negligent, or does not repeat the same mistake over and over then it is a learning lesson. A poor manager is one that flat out punishes instead of teaching. And yes our politicians are responsible - we hold them to such. They are people just like us
They get so many threats a day....as the saying goes "hindsight 20/20". Who is to say the tip today will be valid tomorrow? And even if it is valid maybe schedules get changed...maybe 9/11 was planned for 9/10 but just happend to be delayed by a day. I wonder what our country would look like without our current system? Maybe we would have more bombings each day (look at Iraq).
I am pretty sure our president did not abuse his power to punish those who voted against him. And if you were to make such a claim you should really really back it up with hard evidence.
I am pretty sure the president gets voted into office because of the votes of the People. I am pretty sure a corporation doesn't get a vote. Maybe they can buy them ad-time, but thats about it.
As I recall we have a system "Checks and Balances" that lets the president veto congressional laws, and lets the supreme court name laws unconstitutional. That makes Congress accountable. Not to mention that if my senator wants my vote he better play ball with me and others like me. Will he go 100% my way - no, that is impossible to say. The only person on this planet who goes 100% my way is me...and sometimes that doesnt even happen.
Maybe not where you live, but at least where I do my politicians are accountable. Every four years my president is accountable. If I do not think he did a good job I vote against him. If I think he did a good job then I vote for him. If my fellow citizens are too short-sighted to look at multiple resources to find out who the right person for the job is - then that is their fault. And while I have to suffer with bad decisions - it is nobodys fault but the citizen who voted "incorrectly."
I like this a LOT actually. On top of that...for laws that make the first five year provisions - they need to be reviewed every 15 or 20 years? This will help ensure we don't have laws that should be expired (Sunday Laws). It is bad that we have tens of thousands of laws and a large portion of them are not in use. Obviously, there can always be exceptions.
If you have better lawmakers then please nominate them for office. Yes, as I have said, it was made in a rush. The people wanted/needed a law. Everyone was happy at first. And it had a "Sunset Clause" to it.
So whats your complaint that it wasn't a good law? People make mistakes. Does this mean they should be fired? Personally I would hate to be in a job where one big mistake would get me fired - as mistakes happen even big ones. For the lack of intelligence in our community - that is argumentative and I cannot get into a battle I am not sure of.

Popularity does not lead to viruses, shoddy programming does
NO...hackers lead to viruses. Put the blame where it needs to be. MS did not write these viruses, nor did MS exploit loopholes in the system.
MS is not perfect, but they do offer free updates and attempt to patch their security holes... holes which are exploited by Evil HACKERS not MS.
Or something along this line:

But, by that same token, Microsoft should NOT be selling anti-virus software.
Why should they not be selling another product? Are you advocating restrictions on a company trying to enter a free market?

Again it sucks.
While we might care about spam, most voters will not rank that as a selling point when there are "bigger" issues at hand.

So once the uber clocked processor heats the oil to boiling temp he can make some fries.

And the whirring sound of a siren as you realize Smokey busted you for doing 70 in a 35....
You could always connect a space heater (for heat) and a fan to make it feel like a hot day.
Funny I only saw one Patriot act. This isn't the Patriot Act Part III - return of the mistake.

I think you should loosen your tinfoil hat a bit. So Our Bill of Rights is quaint due to the CIA?
People do hate the kind of unaccountable

We have something in place, it's called the Constitution
Well since we have this, I guess there is no reason for any other laws. Lets abolish every single law not in the constitution...oops
