Im glad you posted somthing about this, cause I was going to. WTF is lucas been talking about, he has said this before that he thinks piracy is going put and end to theaters... What kind of crack pipe are they(The Film Industry) using? the supersized or the slim version?
They clearly dont seem to understand the issues..I would never choose to watch a ripped divx version of of LOTR before watching it on the big screen...
I bought all of the StarTrek NG DVD series at a 100$ a piece, I could have downloaded all of them off the net, but it wouldnt be the same.
MAYBE priacy will become an issue when home theaters can be put into our private homes at low cost. And that is a big maybe.
Ok I understand that serachable databases can be usefull for alot of things, but I still do not see how this can replace hierarctical directory structures? I mean there are times when I dont know the name of the file, when I created it, or what it was about. But I do know what directory I placed it in? What if you still want to be able to find a file based on location? Sorry for the clueless question.
Can open source code be patented? My concern is that eventually all of the code will be patented. How will people be able to write code if every way to code something is patented?
Isnt patentable code going to find its way into open source not matter what happens?
How are we going to be able to keep track of all the propratitery code to prevent it from leaking into the Linux codebase?
Seems to me the patent system on software needs to be stopped. Is there anyway to make that happen?
Sorry for the offtopic, but I was just thinking about that while reading bout senderid. Microsoft must have an idea that they can break linux eventually by producing enough propriatery code?
At this point if they have trusted computing in place I think the internet would split? not everyone would want to run trusted hardware... Maybe this is where wirless networks are going? we might be able to eventually create seprate networks that span countries.. Just a thought.
Money represents a desire for people to live a life of quality, and that's all it represents. When you use it to lessen someone else's right to a productive life it becomes a problem.
In this case people have a right to know that distributed systems helps maintain a good balance in security. Regardless of whom it hurts monetarily. Its people before profit, not the other way around.
Get your priorities straight, unless you care only for yourself like the rest of Corporate America.
Its simple really, No person should need to take resposnsibility for something they helped create so long as it was intended for harmless use. We can control what other people do with our work.
You have two choices when it comes to your freedom: you defend it or let it be taken away. The Internet will not destroy the PRC and end the Chinese gulags, prison labor system, etc. Guns will
I am completley against software that uses Activation, How or where I install software is no business of anyones but my own. Please do not support this kind of piracy prevention. I swear the more propriatry companies do this the more I think about wipeing Windows and going Linux.
Hearing about this kind of abuse really pisses me off, it puts us Sysadmins that are legit in a serious bind, and we are less trusted.
The Sys Admins need to form some kind of honor system/group, that puts a code of ethics in place that group members need to follow, If they are suspected of malicious intent during a screening process or on the job, they are banned from the group and can never work in the IT industry again, that's how serious these types of actions should be taken.
Then employers could at lest be assured that we tried to screen out as many plp as possible that are shady.
Listen pal, Darwin THEORY is just as much a mysticism as creationism. There is not enough information to cite either as fact.

Judging from the damage corporates have done to society in this age (Using the pattant system to restrict science, Using money to infulence desion making in politics,ect..) Id say amoralizm is the biggest mistake the ruling class has ever made.
Sorry but anyone who thinks that morals dont have a place in important decision making clearly doesnt understand the "Big Picture" of a healthy structured society.
Cochrane named the NX-01 after the Enterprise, which he got a chance to see thanks to LaForge and a telescope.
Speaking of Cochrane, they really f'ked his character up. I mean the guy in the books (Federation, the best TNG book ever) is not a drunking fool like he was in the movie.
You are basically contradicting yourself, you say on one had you dont think p2p has any legit uses and then in the same sentance you say that it does, make up your mind.
And dont blame the technology on what people do with it, blame the fucking plp who use if for illigal use.
I am so sick of plp blaming technology instead of human reasoning.
If these p2p companies want to earn money so they can continue development then just CHARGE MONEY FOR THE PRODUCT! I am tried of this rediculious claim that its eaiser to scam users then to just have the users pay for the product, I mean that's why I stoped using limewire, mopheus, and Kazza in the first place, I know allmost everyone who would use these products would rather pay money to use it then have spyware on there systems.
This may sound like a stupid question but wouldnt it be better for both of the developers of KDE and GNOME to just work togeather to make one killer WM ?

Fuck IP, it has no vaule what so ever accept for coperates to use against the public.
The whole idea of IP is pretty stupid if you as me. Ideas shouldnt be able to be patened or copyrighted.

Anyway just my 2cents.
Actually there doesnt seem to be enough evidance to prove either THEORY as fact. So for you call it such, isnt really approprate.

LOL,my thoughts exactley
Yea I have to agree with you, all tho I like the most of their ideas, no regulation for large companies is a bad idea.
