Actually one of the reasons they did this is to cut down on the amount of traffic the client and server needed to exchange with each other. Allowing users with small pipes two have better latency.
Client Side Prediction is one example of this, that greatly decreased the amount of data that need to be sent to the server. Allow smoother game play on the client side.
But alas too much on the client side has drawbacks allowing cheating to take place, their needs to be a balance.
I hate to say it but, it wont matter, to many org, bus, govs, are using free software, they would be breaking their own backs, and starting a war they could never win, if congress decided to outlaw free software.
If you believe that their only goal is to protect against copyright, then thats on you, Its my belief that they have gotten to powerfull and are no longer needed, they basicly strip all artists of there right to THERE music by making them sign agreements to that fact.
The RIA is just to stupid to understand that they no longer have control, and they are dieing a slow death. We dont need them to charge us money so they can conrol what music they think we want. The Net will just route around that shit before the relize what hit them. I for one dont even use Napster that much because its not very Reliable.
BWTF I like Audio Galaxy better anyway just not as much music.
here is a message you sent to a customer about resetting his prefs:
Dear cadrys,
Several times a month, eBay sends out valuable email communications with news, offers and special events that help you buy and sell. Unfortunately, we have noticed that an error occurred during your registration process that prevented you from receiving these communications. Many of your Notification Preference defaults were set to "no" rather than to "yes", which means that unlike other eBay members, you're not receiving these types of communications.
We'd like to resolve this problem quickly and efficiently. Therefore, on 1/8/01, we returned all your Notification Preferences to the standard default of "yes" to put you in line with the rest of the eBay community. However, we want you to choose your Notification Preferences rather than rely on our standard defaults and will therefore not include you in any communications until 1/23/01. This will provide you with some time to evaluate these choices and modify your Notification Preferences. You will, however, continue to receive certain administrative emails that are part of executing your eBay transactions
I Scott Larson, really do not appearicate resetting someones prefs without their permission, the whole point of user prefs is to make your own decisions about what spam mail you do and do not want. please contact me on your resolution with this issue, what you plan on doing in the future, because if this is the attiude your company has on users and their prefs then I do not want to be apart of it and will be terminating my account. If I do not receive a response in one week, I will be contacting your company by other means.
Sincerly,
Scott Larson

I for one would like to know how this spec would affect the portable devices. Will mp3 devices be incapable of transferring any music from the device to your computer? Or will the spec just limit copying of music downloaded from RIA compatible web sites?
Since im not a good writer I did use the letter created by by bakreule(apocalypse29_99@yahoo.spam.com)and sent out two letters to both my senators here in califorina, Barbra Boxer, and Dianne Feinstein. Please show your support by spending 5 mins creating these letters and mailing them to your sentators.
Here are the address for Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer
Ahh no your incorrect, you can get cd quaility from encoding songs at 320 kpbs 128 allmost sounds like cd quaility, FM quaility sound is a bit over the top.
I visted Sight and Sound, it looks great, one thing i did noticed is that it costs more to by a high quality version of a movie.
For instance Quantum Project has two versions of the same movie, the low-qual version is 3.95 and the hi-qual version is 5.95.
Im thinking that it shouldnt cost more for the hi-qual version, the only diffrence is the encodeing. Not sure if that warrents a price diffrence.. what do you guys think ?
I dont know about you all, but that kid rock article on the onion contained so much BullS**t it was piled sky high! where the hell is the people attacking this, this is insane, the RIAA is blaming the whole dam thing on mp3s,its a publicity stunt!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to ask why you choose to air your articles on Slashdot. They are written from a non-technical point of view for a non-technical audience wholly unfamiliar with their subjects: Weblogs, the DVD controversy, the Linux revolution itself. Clearly, the Slashdot audience finds your articles insultingly simplistic. We are already familiar with these issues, often in more detail (technical and historical) than you, and by and large we are annoyed to have our opinions simplified and read back to us.
I have two questions. First, do you agree with me in seeing your posts as popular digests of our culture, intended for a lay audience?
Second, if you do agree, why do you persist in using Slashdot as a forum?
Katz:
Ummmm... no, I don't agree with you. I think the subtext of this message isn't about how dumb I am, but how smart you think you are.
From Trinsic: Umm yea I have to agree with katz, alot of slashdot readers think since they know more than most that simple people shouldnt post here, Im not a programmer, but I am very intrested in what goes on in the open source community, I think that the propriatary systems will be the thing of the past once plp see the merit of open souce systems.
Come on, Q*Bert, think about this. Would I still be here if that was really the view of the "Slashdot audience", whatever that may be? Would you be bothering even to write this question?
I don't mean to be snarky, but I must have been away when you were elected mayor of Slashdot, and spokesperson for the community. How do you know how everyone views my writing? Are you really saying that I should never write about privacy, genetics, open source, culture, books, movies, corporatism, media coverage of technology because you know all there is to know about it, and couldn't possibly learn anything more from any discussion? Sounds like it.
You also are wantonly inaccurate about Slashdot's audience, which is considerably wider than you seem to grasp, with varying levels of technical expertise, and which neither one of us is qualified to speak for. Happily, all kinds of people come through here, from programmers to housewives, and find the site interesting.
From Trinsic: Yep I know all kinds of plp the read slashdot, dont be fooled that everyone here is a programmer extrordnare.
Thier needs to be a manditory review proccess by the public before ANY bill gets passed into law. this is the kind of stuff i am really worried about here in the US. The Ausie Goverment should be ahsamed of their selfs. Their people should be up in arms. I would fight till death on this issue if it was enacted in the US.
But alas too much on the client side has drawbacks allowing cheating to take place, their needs to be a balance.
Well Their are other 3d games out their that do not promote bloodlust. Like Jedi Knight ,and you can turn off all the gore in most of the bad ones.
Or Download this plugin for winamp
