I really did not even FEEL safer after they confiscated that toothpaste. A shame the asininity can't reduce the far greater likelihood of being struck by lightning. Every security station should be required to post a tally board with the last 7 days total of idiotic confiscations versus the number of notsoscaryists apprehended versus the number of fatal traffic accidents with the number of tax dollars spent to achieve this breathtaking accomplishment of Homeland "Security".

Combine your point with the previous post about creating derogatory pamphlets and print the pamphlets in Arabic. The Altavista translator doesn't do Arabic, what's a good Arabic translation for "Security theater accomplishes no practical goal" or "We all fell safer now, with those tubes of toothpaste confiscated"? Something about "Mohammad sodomizes swine" would be a nice companion piece. Does alliteration work the same way in Arabic, so that the carnal act and the porker references come trippingly from the tongue? Might make a nice T-shirt too.

Because M$ does not currently support DHCP static lease address assignment in their IPv6 implementation. Many large enterprises like to have their primary servers at a certain known address, e.g. "10.1.2.3" for proxy "10.1.2.5" fopr file server, etc. Sorry no can do in a windoze IPv6 environment. MS isn't the only culprit. Don't get me started on the debacle they called "site-local". Every place says its deprecated but precious few will inform you what to use as a replacement and best practice of that use.
Much as I would like to use it, I am afraid that until a DHCP IPv6 environment does everything (correctly) a DHCPv4 environment does on both the client and server side, it wont make much headway outside trivial or lab environments.

  11. Re:DHCP in an IPV6 world on One Less Reason to Adopt IPv6? · · Score: 1

Theoretically the latest DHCP specs should do allow us to do everything we want, static routing wise. Originally DHCP only defined a host route and Windows 2000 would not even accept and act on that value. A new option allows CIDR definition, but Windows 2K3 implementation got confused when the lease renewed. It looks like they deleted the DHCP supplied route and the re-insertion after the renewal did not seem to put it back correctly and the traffic preferred the default route. Boy was that a joy to track down. Terminal servers that had been running untouched for weeks suddenly lose connectivity to hosts on the other side of the internal WAN). Maybe MS has fixed it in the last 6 months, I doubt it. I haven't tried any Linux stuff in the mix.
