foolish, yeah, I am. But... I'm so tired of attempting to post intelligent content when I have nothing to offer. The majority of articles I've read on Slashdot recently center around political and moral discussion and arguments, which I could care less about. Plus, I ate a bunch of chocolate cake, and got all rowdy, and nobody was around, so I figured I'd post to slashdot... what a sorry life I lead.
What's wrong with a yellow car? I'm gettin my car painted orange though, with the dukes of hazard number on the side, except it will be "01" instead of "00". It's gonna be awsome. I mean, sure, my '86 camaro still will run like shit, but it will be one good looking peice of shit. Why am I responding to this?
I don't think napster would be better off using UDP... Why would you write it in UDP protocol when you want realtime updating? And use UDP to transfer files? They also have "chat" and crap like that, which wouldn't benifit from being written in UDP. What the hell are you talking about? What crap software man? Napster doesn't make me download crap software...
no no, not you, the guy who posted earlier. But by the way, don't you think "Media Share" is a little um, well, blatant? It sounds a lot more like a piracy program than "Napster". Maybe you should name it "A Program that Nobody Will Use to Pirate Music, because it's Illegal and Morally Wrong" or something like that, to avoid lawsuits.
You're talking like you have to pay for Napster or something. First off, you can disconnect people downloading from your machine, second, if you don't like it, write your own version.
At least read a little into the article. The reason is that napster users were banned was because they were hogging more bandwith than the university could afford, 5% or something. Now, web sites, that's different, you make your connection, get the page, and disconnect. Most people don't know how to close napster totally, and it stays open in the little taskbar in the right hand lower corner of the screen. And also, if the use of bandwith continued to rise, the university would of been over their $75,000 a year "bandwith budget".
IE on its native platform (Win, of course) is slow, buggy, crashy, and annoying. Netscape4 may not be much better, but it at least supports CSS passably.
Oh please. Both IE 4/5 work great and render pages fast. The programmers who made it did a pretty good job, why do you assume that they wouldn't do just as good a job porting it to linux?
My guess is, if someone is willing to pirate software, music, or movies, they're not planning on buying it, even if it weren't available pirated.
Yeah, but.... Mp3's efficiently make pirates out of everyone. It's so easy, and isn't the kind of thing that you're going to jail for. Copying a video is a little different than downloading an mp3. People dont' really think of files on a computer as property. I don't think i have anything else to add to this topic though... I'm tired and I need at least 5 hours of sleep.
Of course they're losing money. Maybe not the large sums of money they claim to be losing, but they're losing it none the less. Have you ever bought a CD just to get one song? Maybe you haven't, but I have, and alot of other people have. Sooner or later, as the quality of mp3 increases, you can get a perfect copy of that song from your local napster server, with your big-bandwidth dsl/cable modem connection. You no longer have a reason to buy that CD. Look, I'm not really siding with the RIAA, or anyone for that matter. I'm just saying, you're losing money, and no matter what the real amount is, are you gonna sit back and lose revenue due to some easily piratable quality music format without a fight? I'd hope that if you were in their position you would answer NO to that question.
from the mike-killed-the-hubble-mike-killed-the-hubble dept.
What is that from? I know I didn't kill the hubble, honest...
