Most Xbox 360 games won't be doing 1080p because even it won't have the horse power to do it and still produce the "mind blowing" graphics they're promising.
It's free, perpetual and compatible with some open source licenses. Slashdot doesn't like it because it's incompatible with the Messiah RMS's Holy GNU General Public Bible.
Save as HTML? They actually put up a video of a guy demoing a software update for Office XP that allowed it to use the new XML format so they might not even have to upgrade to get a format that is *open enough*. The problem with Microsoft's current proprietary binary formats is they're hard to work with and recover when something goes haywire.
What's the difference between implementing the algorithm directly into a custom micro-chip and running the algorithms in software on a CPU? If I can implement it as an accelerator card, can I patent it and keep people from just doing it in software?
Microsoft has had a top-right search bar (for help) in Office for a while now. Visual Studio has been capable of tabbed browsing (why would a dev tool have this?) for a while too. Perhaps the IE team is actually stealing ideas from the Office and Visual Studio teams!
If it weren't for Microsoft destroying Netscape with a superior product, Netscape would probably still be charging for a product based off the Netscape 4.0x (and not even the 4.5+ series) codebase now. God bless Microsoft for forcing Netscape to actually compete instead of wallowing in their web browser monopoly.
They settled the lawsuit with the government. Moving the search functionality out of the address bar and into a new search field would only be seen as a violation of the settlement by a complete retard. It's been possible to search from the IE address bar for years AND it's been possible to change it in the registry for just as long.
Probably when Microsoft says: "Here's the registry key and here's the format for the registry value so IE will fill in the search terms etc etc etc". You can already make IE use Google for searches from the address bar. It'll probably be the exact same registry key.
Microsoft didn't want their OS running on a "low quality" version of DOS either. Didn't stop Caldera from suing them (after buying the rights to DR-DOS...). Would be great if AMD and the Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers sued Apple for this.
There's other forms of radio astronomy that could be affected by cell phones in the air. I don't think it's a good idea to allow cell phones to be used on airplanes at all tbh. After watching one interfere with a CRT computer monitor when it received a call and knock out wireless communication equipment while sitting and doing nothing, I'd be a bit antsy about getting on an airplane with 100 people using them at maximum power to make contact with the ground.
I think both software and non-software patents are a good idea. I think that if I create a revolutionary process for doing something, I should be able to patent it whether it's software or mechanical. Software, afterall, is instructions for how the mechanical part of the machine should behave. Silly shit like the one-click patent and minor improvements on other works or the even dumber interface patents is stupid.
Maybe I'm missing something, but aren't both Excel spreadsheets and Access tables nothing but tables to begin with? How innovative is moving data between them?

wtf? Since when did browser cookies phone home at boot time? Perhaps you mean adware/malware that you've been picking up from porn sites?
But Slashdot groupthink errr moderation forces only popular opinions to be visible :P
Oh yes. My single vote makes such a difference that I should be held responsible for the actions of any other member of society! Right.
It was actually IMHO less of an atrocity than the firebombings which burned to death MORE civilians than both atomic bombs combined.
At least the first two movies had him wearing bullet-proof body armor just like in the new one.
Unfortunately Apple hasn't always had to deal with having God only knows what running underneath their OS like Microsoft has.

We're talking about taking pleasure from typing on a specific keyboard layout here. You don't find that the least bit odd?
It's called the international treaties that Indonesia is a signatory to.
and say hello to pissed off foreign nations screwing with their economy!
Tthen someone caught with naughty plants will get like 40x the prison time of someone that was involved in a terrorist bombing. Mmmmm, justice.
Don't let them claim everything you've ever produced in or out of the University...

Except open source experts are probably completely against all software patents and thus have a pre-existing bias that should disqualify them.
I imagine they mean it only moves vertically that amount while in projectile motion :P
