I've seen a lot on here about the unconscionable conduct of the fire department (and yes, they were douche-nozzles about the whole thing).
What I haven't seen is commentary on why this guy's idiot grandson was burning rubbish in the first place. Use legitimate solid-waste disposal (landfill or, better yet, recycling) but don't burn the stuff! Not only can it cause property destruction, but it's also a health hazard if plastics are being burned and people happen to inhale the noxious fumes. Too bad this poor guy had to lose his home because his grandson is a fucktard.
How was the above post modded Flamebait? It's an eminently reasonable response. I guess/. has a disproportionate share of Ayn Rand worshippers, and somebody's feelings were hurt.
I would recycle the motherboard/CPU (with a legitimate company) and be done with it. You'd get a much better performance/watt ratio with a more modern box. Keep the case, RAM (depending on specs; otherwise, recycle), and drives and get a newer mobo/CPU combo. If the HDD is smallish, you can put the OS/apps on it and get another drive for data.
We see how well that's worked in China, with their gender disparity problem. Or do you mean everyone should stop making babies, in which case Homo sapiens becomes extinct?
I can see this working for a graphics chip -- after all, who cares if a tiny portion of an image is a pixel or two off? For execution of an actual application, however, I think this idea sucks. There are far better ways to reduce power consumption, like asynchronous- or reversible computing techniques.
CNN has more to gain from this than CBS. I've completely stopped watching CNN because it's become nothing more than a 24hr version of Entertainment Tonight, with its constant coverage of goings-on in the celebrity world. Maybe a partnership with CBS will inject some serious journalism once more.
We'll give our land back to the Native Americans, when you Europeans give back your land to the Native Europeans (Celts). That's right. Eject the Franks, the Dutch, Norsemen, Roman descendents and all the rest, and restore the land to the Celtics.
Actually the Basques were there before any of the groups you listed. Several genetic studies conclude that the Basques are the modern remnant of the Cro Magnon.
That's like saying that Abraham Lincoln's estate is legally required to make all of his private journals available to you.
No it isn't. These shows were broadcast, which is a form of publication. Notice that the definition of the word publication is 'the act of making something public' - Abraham Lincoln's journals were private, which is the antonym of public. So you're comparing apples and oranges.
Well, yeah. I want higher gas taxes -- and correspondingly lower general taxes. We're saying that the roads are paid for by the users, except they're not, so that would be the way to correct that.
The problem with a petrol tax is that as auto makers increase fuel economy across their product lines, that source of revenue will diminish with time. A better alternative would be a combination of congestion pricing and miles-travelled metering, which would be directly proportional to actual road usage.
Funny how most public officials blather on about competition and free markets -- as long as their pimps^H^H^H^H^Hcorporate campaign donors are exempt from having to compete.

Kudos to Sal Khan for being one of the awardees. His site is absolutely brilliant and one of the most redeeming ones online.
There is NO other industry that is as customer-unfriendly as the cell phone industry. You get better customer service at the local loan shark.
I would say the airline industry, if not on a par, at least rates a close second.

But most art is lost. And for good reason: because it's not worth saving.
Yeah, but who makes that determination? Sometimes the value of a piece of art isn't acknowledged until long after the artist's death.

Take the stuff to Best Buy and they'll recycle it in a responsible manner. Landfilling it is unacceptable in this day and age.
Windows 8 a fat dick.

Readin', 'Ritin', and 'Rithmetic will become God, Guns, and Gay-hatin'....

I wish the States had something akin to Freeview.
I mean it worked for the McDonald's McDLT back in the 80's...
Wow, CEO John Williams even looks like a Grade A wanker.
They did something similar by relaunching Lotus Symphony as a product based on OpenOffice -- so why not?

So would this attack be called phish and chips?

No, you're thinking of the Phial of Galadriel.
Seriously -- does anybody still listen to Dvorak's douche-baggery these days?
McCain called the proposed net neutrality rules a "government takeover" of the Internet.
As opposed to a telco takeover of the Internet?
