Insurance companies are betting that you'll be healthy, so as a business they dislike when pre-existing conditions get thrown in because it changes the situation without them being aware of it.
The problem is that medical insurance has become an essential, and I don't mean by law, so to treat it like any other business is foolish.
The point isn't about consistency - If you want to play a computer game like DOOM, that's still a valid option. (Heck, Half Life came out in 1998 and it's STILL a sizable game community because of the mods.) Even when they shut down the WON servers, you could still find ways to play (not including Steam) by patching the game, and some people set up alternative authentication servers.
How much bandwidth would that sort of thing require? I thought internet access was a major reason why they would include as much information on the laptop as possible...
"What really needs to be done is elect police officers on a neighborhood (in larger cities) or town (in smaller cities) basis to make them accountable to the public."
The problem with this is that being a police officer requires time and specialized training. Perhaps a better oversight group might be more practical? (And THOSE members could perhaps be elected.)
Bruce Schneier posted an article a while ago about how the idea that if we "just watched the police as much as they watched us, it balances things out" is false. Police have POWER, most people do not. This means that they are able to do things with their knowledge that we, with the same knowledge, cannot.
In 1893, Queen Liliuokalani threatened to abrogate the "Bayonet Constitution" and draft a new constitution that would restore power to the monarchy. Supporters of the Reform Party (primarily of American and European ancestry, but including some native Hawaiians) organized in response to this and took over the government of the Kingdom of Hawaii. American troops aboard the USS Boston were landed in Honolulu under strict orders of neutrality, to protect the "lives and property of American citizens, and to assist in preserving public order",[10] while a 13 member council of businessmen, attorneys and politicians organized the Honolulu Rifles to depose Queen Liliuokalani.
We're one of (I believe) two countries that don't use the metric system. (Ironically, because it would "cost too much" to switch over... sound familiar?)
Actually, you're wrong about what agnosticism and atheism are.
Theism is the belief in God. Atheism (A + Theism, making it an opposite in English) is a catch-all term that described everyone who does not have a firm belief in the existence of God, including those doubtful of God's existence. (I use capital G, but it could apply to gods in general.)
Agnosticism is the idea that one cannot prove whether god exists or not. This is an opposite to gnosticism.
Actually, you may want to check out speech act theory then. It proposes that some expressions can be used to affect the world around us, causing harm on a similar level. (Think of a bet, for example. It doesn't exist outside of speech, but has very real effects. Or marriage vows as part of a ceremony. In the case of hate speech, it's a long discussion but consider the idea that people would/will often say things to the effect of "So and So is ignorant, ignore them..." Eventually, it can get to the point where that person is ignored, silenced, etc... It's complicated, but the basics are in the wiki.)
I don't know if I necessarily agree, but it's interesting in any event.
Theft? How exactly is it theft?

A lot harder to do for the XBox...

I'd say Hydrogen but it seems like Sony laptops are randomly testing that as we speak...
It was kinda fun to live in that age when people were gullible enough to accept ANYTHING that popped up on screen.
This changed when exactly?
Theoretically you could survive on any given part of the planet without the intervention/help of scientists.
The same is not true of the moon.

Yes, because Obama is the person that proposes and passes laws. Right?
I think the captain should be applauded for trying to save tax payer money! Why wait for it to anchor up and stuff when you're just wasting time!
Blurred? Back in the day we had our memories OBLITERATED!
At least you KNOW you had a memory of something! I can't even remember what I can't remember!
Wait... what was this about, again?
Not bankrupt, but there'd be nothing to do and nobody left to do any of it. Now that would make sense.
Governments are at least partly in the business of nonsense. They have a monopoly on it, in fact.
Governments would go bankrupt if they had a No-Nonsense policy. I think you meant a Zero-Tolerance policy... =D
Posting to try and negate a mistake I made in moderating.

Reality has been shown to have a clear liberal bias.

I believe at this point we owe so many acres we should consider converting into Klein bottle space.

Wikipedia entry on Hawaii.
Had to.
Why, when stereotyping is much fun? (That crazy cat lady has syphillus... that explains so much!)
For some people.
