I reduced my disc rental plan to the "once every 2 weeks" plan for $4.99. Never even realized it was an option until I took a look at my subscription a few weeks ago. I've been a subscriber since 2001.
We're talking about actual products, get your head out of your ass:
"Pico refined the technology over the upcoming years and in 1978 the first X10 components started to appear in Radio Shack stores. Radio Shack was already a very large electronic retailer with stores scattered all over the United States which helped to make the X10 technology known to tech savvy users."
That's weird, I always thought of myself as "Type B". I point out typos to help educate. I'll be damned if I put ending punctuation inside parentheses though (example: suck it).
They are attempting to offer a similar service as TouchID on iOS, making it easier for n00bs to login to their stuff without needing to remember arcane passwords.
Which app store is worse, Windows 10 or Ubuntu's? Both are filled with a lot of poorly named crap that looks like it came from the example section of a school kid's programming lesson book.
No need, just connect a 5 cent adapter to the end to connect to new equipment, or spend 15 cents, cut the old connector off and crimp a new connector on the end.
Chili's has had those things for years. I've managed to pay the bill with them twice out of dozens of visits. I never got a chance to use them for ordering meals since the waiter was always stopping by faster than I could navigate the menus on the device. I did order dessert once, but the waiter stopped by and asked if I wanted to order any dessert and I had to tell him I had submitted an order 5 minutes ago on the device, he seemed shocked and didn't know what to do so he ran off to find his manager for help. The one thing I liked about the devices was being able to read the news headlines and weather forecast. With smartphones these days those devices are completely obsolete.
Spoons had the devices in their bar area and you could use them to participate in a trivia contest that was shown on the TV's when there was no sports game on, but that was about all they were good for.
Actually, they would just outsource the technical support to a call center in India and tell the shift manager at each location to call if there are any problems. They would then have a service contract with an appropriate vendor in each county that had an SLA to be on-site within 1 hour or less. Chances are most problems would be solved by turning it off and on. They would never waste money to have skilled technicians on staff to do physical repairs. As they narrowed down support issues to specific components they would just provide 1-2 spares and design them to be easily replaceable. That would be determined in advance by doing trial runs at a handful of select locations.
They enacted laws requiring buses to stop and open their doors for the simple reason that signals at crossings do not always work and buses take longer to clear tracks. The reason for opening the doors is so they can listen for train horns. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
They can't stop accepting cash, the majority of their riders are poor and/or homeless that have no bank account. The best they could do would be to have ticket machines at every bus stop for people to use cash/coins to pre-purchase a ticket that could be scanned.
With the degrading of the site by moving the polls back to the right we can no longer vote on polls without it forcing the load of the comments. When the polls were in the feed users could vote in a poll and immediately see the results while continuing to read the headlines for the day. Please restore this superior functionality to the site, or replace whatever code is handling the polls on the right with the code that was used in the feed. Ignore the graybeards, they are just senile and forgot to take their medicine.
This will greatly improve the quality of cam torrents as pirates use stolen credentials and private VPN service to capture the latest movies day&date with theatrical release in their own home.
This isn't a technology news website, this is a news for nerds website, many nerds like military stuff and the science involved in their operation. If you want a technology website go to CNET or tH4 V1r6e.
Now they just need to add support for desktop apps to Windows 10 on the Xbox One, that way users could play Steam and GoG titles on the console, not to mention emulators.
I don't understand why the university doesn't simply purchase Linux computers from a major vendor like System76? Save money on costly Microsoft licenses by keeping as many machines as possible running Linux and only install Windows where necessary. If negotiated contracts are a factor, then purchase Linux systems from Dell or HP. They do sell them, you know?!
Wrong, it is in Beta and the developers allow for infinite free updates to the trial license while it remains in beta. Only when the beta is over will anyone need to pay for a license. To update an expired trial license, go to the official MakeMKV forums > News and Announcements > "MakeMKV is free while in beta" thread: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/...
The latest trial key is available there.
"As stated on a main page all features of MakeMKV are free while program is in beta. You may purchase the full activation key if you like the program and want to show your support, but you also may use the temporary beta key."
When I was a Senior in High School (1996), I already had 2 computers and a BBS, surprisingly when a teacher asked the class who had a computer at home only myself and one other student did. The teacher was trying to make the class realize that computers were going to be critical to their future careers but it largely fell on deaf ears. The only mandatory computer "training" the school required of students was for them to write an English paper using WordPerfect in the computer lab. Most students wrote the majority of their papers either with pen and paper or using a typewriter. Some would use a computer in the library to type and print out their reports but only a few did. While going to college over the next 3 years things quickly progressed to the point that one student was asking if she could bring her laptop into the classroom to type notes and the students having a fit about the "loud typing" distracting them.

Shocked that Facebook, known trusted leader of privacy and caring about what the consumer wants would do such a thing.

Microsoft is holding their Build conference, expect more articles.

In all honesty, that's basically the minimum needed to earn a living wage in Silicon Valley.

They are terrorists, so no.

"stolen credentials" should be "stolen credit cards".

My favorite was always Red October, when speaking to the Russian Ambassador: "Andrei, you've lost another submarine?"
Slashdot seems to get by fine with going days before posting the latest news.

Nothing to worry about, unless you live in Australia, but drop bears are probably more worrying than sea level drop anyways.
