Of all that i learned in the university, the only really useful thing is "how to learn" - that one has helped me countless times to rapidly learn the skills needed for the job at hand

I've heard from people far wiser than I that this is one of the most important things one can learn.

It doesn't even make much sense to build the thing in orbit. Especially not for the first few exploratory missions. Orbital construction costs are still exorbitantly expensive. In a few decades, when it's significantly cheaper, it might make sense. But it doesn't right now.

In his book The Case For Mars, Dr. Robert Zubrin explains his plan for Mars exploration, called Mars Direct. Zubrin does a much better job of explaining it than I could, so I'll just say this: he figures that getting to Mars is doable with a low-earth-orbit mass of 70-100 tons. This is in the same range as the Saturn V's heavy lift capabilities, so it's achievable using common rocketry knowledge.

I recall reading somewhere (either Popular Mechanics' cover story on EMPs a couple years back or the e2 node about them) that they could be chained to produce significant EMPs. And yes, I agree that Ocean's 11 got it completely wrong.

There's already lots of suitable bracing under the hood because of the sheer number of components that have to be supported there.

One problem with a sealed hood/bonnet is that it'd probably wreak havoc on frontal crumple zones. Hoods of modern cars are designed to crumple in a specific sequence to absorb energy.

Atlanta certainly has the worst traffic I've seen, but Miami has the worst average drivers. There, it's not considered running a red until you're the 5th car to go through after it turned red. On the expressways, you're roadkill if you're doing anything less than 20 over (it's only 10 over in Atlanta, when it's not first gear idle). I could go on like this, but it's late.

None of the OEM's (except white boxers) use standard case design anyway.
Every name-brand computer I've been inside in the past couple years had an ATX-type layout (most were actually microATX, but same basic layout).

You also seem to think the airflow is from back to front. I got the impression it was the other direction. Hence, the CPU isn't where the heat problems will be. It's the graphics card.

On the whole, BTX strikes me as an excuse to design a new specification to deal with Prescott's outrageous heat output, rather than taking an existing suitable spec (like WTX) and updating it for PCI-Express. WTX was designed to deal with processor heat outputs up to 200W and system heat outputs up to around 600W (it was designed for dual processor workstations). That would be more than sufficient for even the most decked out enthusiast systems.
