"Please keep in mind that project is more of a vision. Due to the limitations of Windows I'm not able to do everything as I would like to."
That says it all...
I have myldly ADHD, but I never watched TV when I was young (I still het my father for that:P ). So How annoying must those kids be that watched TV all their live:)
However it is just one more desiease that can be added to the list of "modern desiease caused by humans".

The word bugs always reminds me to the scene from Indyana Jones and the temple of doom, where they have to go trough that hallway full of bugz...
Anyway, to contribute something usefull to this topic, they should've used a better server (connection/whatever) cuz it's been slashdotted already:(
The best thing to do then is, IMO, to chose a project, and just start. You can learn all the relevant things on the way. And after that project is finished, you can start on a new one...
One thing that I've learnt as a programmer is that you don't need to know all the API's that exist, but just start on a project, and learn whatever you must for that project, and after that just move on.
"the learning curve for the API's to both UNIX and Windows has become...daunting. Short of going back to school, what would you soon to be fellow geeks recommend as a good kick start?"
It is a daunting task, but I dont see a way around it. So my advice is to just start learning, and after a while it will get easyer I guess.
Good luck anyway:)
According to this articel (in dutch!) the fine they have to pay is 497,2 Million.
And they also have to make a version of windows without the media player.
I didnt see the movie yet ( it takes forever to load (did sun get slashdotted?:P)) But I still like the command line more than that stuff I think. I even like the command line better than gnome/kde/enlightenment/...
And, since I run on older hardware, it probably wont run very well on my computer anyway.
I mean upgrading if it gives you better productivity, ok thats cool, but upgrading for eye candy is just plain stupid.
(I wonder if it comes with Emacs BTW (or vi):P)

Only 12 reasons? There must be more :)
I wonder how long it would take to do a "wget" with their database as input :)
