Open Warfare in Open Source, oh yeah? And every time Apple sues Microsoft, or like it, there is open warfare in the proprietary software world? Don't think this affects most free software users. We are used to Linus and Richard having different opinions.
they're constantly getting flack because they're not willing to go all the way to open-sourcing their drivers. Personally, I don't care. My interest is in making my computer work, but it seems I may be in the minority there.
I think many people think like you do there, but it just doesn't work. A case: 1) All people start using the proprietary nvidia driver 2) The free nv driver is dropped 3) Nvidia suddenly decides not to release there driver 4) Linux won't be usable with nvidia cards
Another case: 1) The proprietary nvidia driver is put in the kernel instead of the nv driver witch is dropped 2) Lots of stuff starts to depend on the module 3) Nvidia changes there licence to a pay licence 4) Either large parts of the kernel will have to be dropped, or you'll have to pay nvidia to use Linux
If everyone who's bought windows or office instead had downloaded linux and given the money to the poor, would they have got 10,000 times the money? Or 100,000 times?
If you see: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/acid/ also firefox 2 and iCab 3 passes the test. Only IE lacks long behind. Looks like the other browsers did 3+ years ago.

A thing I really think they should do 'to keep the BBC relevant in the digital age.' is to make xmltvfiles of all their tv and radio programme info. This would make them very useful for a lot of people, and sure wouldn't be very hard.
Exactly. I am 15, and have been programming for 2-3 years. Mostly in java. It really can be quite comfortable if you can write some desktopwidget, or interesting, if you can simplify some hard task, but it isn't a thing you can show to your friends for "wow" effect. If you've used time on creating some game, writing physic algorithms, painting shapes, all that stuff, they'll just compare it to some IO interactive game, and call it amateur.
What will this be compared to nokia 770? http://nokia770.com/ Will it the Successor, or will it be smaller, less computer alike? Will it be running Linux?
Opera has for a long time supported page "zoom", that allows you to make things bigger, without messing up the layout. IE7 will, as far as I know, have this feature too.
Why all this new standards/browsers/websites talk?
Well I assume this is not gonna be released under gpl3?

No, that is one of the biggest misunderstandings about DRM. We could always talk about the law being to conservative and old thinking, but what these companies are doing, is taking the low in their own hands. In no other line of business is it legal to put spy cams in the products to ensure the owners don't use them illegal. DRM is fundamentally wrong.

Gnome 2.14 Review

Okay, they've removed possibility to change the sounds of the gnomegames from the "sound preferences" dialog, but really who need that? Instead they've added possibility to change which soundcard you wanna use. To me that's much more useful.
You are also right, that the new screensaver dialog is not as advanced as the old one, but that's not because anything has been removed, that's simply because it is a whole new screensaver, native to gnome, enabling gnomeprogrammes to interact with it, and making it translatable. I'm sure more features will be added in later versions.
Personally I really look forward to use the innovative Deskbar Applet, which I think the review forgot to tell about.
If you look at the gnome hig: http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/ You will see, that the menu entities should not be the name of the app, but something the users understand. e.g. firefox is shown as webbrowser etc.
I thought they ment, that their recent msn was better than google? At least they use to say so. Now they say that in 6 months, we will make msn better than google. To me that means, that even when msn now looks way better, even microsoft don't think it is better than google, so don't expect me to try it.
I don't think it is fair to use the swing memory argument anymore. It is really something that has been worked on.
Personally my experience with swing is that it is very logical and easy. Only problem is that being written directly in java, it doesn't fit into many desktops. The new ocean theme is much better than the metal one, but it still looks very wrong in, lets say, a gnome desktop.

But then it is opensource, and it shouldn't take long to change.
Well, FireFox has got a beta too. And the FireFox team actually cares: http://my.opera.com/tarquinwj/homes/albums/45511/1 FF3.png
But on the other hand, there are nearly no drivers for FreeBSD and Solaris.

It is already at ubuntus bugzilla, and is confirmed (not rejected): https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome -screensaver/+bug/22007/+viewstatus
We may have to stay with xscreensaver until gnome 2.16, but well, it has served us well until now anyways.
