    It is almost as fast as a real mac for reading and writing to disk and RAM, for accessing harware and a bit more. But pearPC is definetly slow when it emulate de processor (from 20 to 500 times slower) and the most processor-consuming activity is.. compiling.

    If someone doesn't know what a Trojan Horse is it is not geek-speach fault.

    I don't know if you ever tried PearPC. It is so slow that compiling some code with it truly is a pain in the ass.

    Many open source project are one-man project, so they could be heavily damage by the departure of eveane a single persone.

    You remeber what happened whith Slackware when Patrick Volkerding was really sick? What would have happened if he had abandoned the maintainance of his distribution?

    I think that the history of open source is far too short to answer these questions, but, sooner or later, all the pioneers of open source will retire.

    I hope they will realize when the time will come to gradually drop their responsibilities and their influence. I also think that Richard Stallman is a good example, he has already started to retire from active development and even his leadership is becoming less practical and (even) more ideological.

    I assume that you are saving in OOo sxw format. If you are saving in proprietary/secret MS format it is you fault.

    (1) Theres no single Linux distro that really looks and feels like win32. Training dozens of people to use a different interface from what theyve been using for 10 years, is something we cant stomach. Tried Fedora3 and Xandros, will try Linspire soon.

    If you do like windows you can stuck with it. Nobody will abuse his dominant position on the OS market in order to force you. If you want Linux to "looks and feels like win32" I think you REALLY should stuck to windows.

    You could have some troubles, perhaps stupid troubles. Those aren't critical and won't destroy your data, but could destroy you time. For instance several months ago I changed my filesystem, I purposely switched from ISO-8859-15 to Unicode and this messed up several dozens of filnames.

    It is pretty clear: if you want to use the Qt libraries in a closed-source software you have to buy a non-GPL version. If you agree to use the GPL license for your software than you can have free Qt.

    (notably, users in countries burdened with software patents, like US users).
    USA citizens are less than 300 milions in a 6 bilions people world.
    I think that linux distributions should break their chains and start to distribute codecs as well.

    ..have to check better next time. They messed up old and new software. For instance the past versions of mandrake and suse with the brand new version of macosx. Even their price listing is not clear.

    From the article:
    FreeSBIE, based on Free BSD and bundled with Xfce, is intriguing, but I couldn't get it to talk to the wireless network, or to print. It also crashed my system twice. But I'd be willing to check it out again sometime.
