    You can release the source code of a patented algoritm, but you have to release it after the patent become effective. Patents laws require taht there is no prior art, not even by yourself. So you must patente before releasing the code.

    If I had to print 800 pages I would use psnup to reduce the number of pages by 2. Here, in Italy, commercial printing cost about 0.03 euro per page, 0.03*400=12.00 euro. Of course it is not cheap, but 12 euro are not that much.

    The link you posted refer mainly to astronomical plots. Even if IDL can be considered a good image manipulation program I think it is a real pain to use it for data manipulation. Furthermore IDL and pm are pretty expensive.

    When such a big corporation as IBM say they have to fire lots of employes because of bad financial outcomes you can bet that they are going to move or to outsorce the job to a cheaper country.

    In fact it is far too difficult to check if the crisis really occured or if it is a fake. Here, in Europe, a large corporation, or an industry, cannot, in normal conditions, fire so many people.

    The solution is both simple and old: a crisis is faked and the people are fired. Then they will hire people somewhere in India or in China. It's easy, you can try this at home!

    I doubt there's much overlap between users capable of doing this and users likely to have malware on their machines.

    The graphical easy-to-use task manager uses ps to show you the processes list.

    Seriously: apple hardware is less common than intel compatible hardware even for linux users.

    Perhaps I'm going to burn my karma, but I'm tired of reading this cost/price bullshit.

    If you don't want to use windows you simply don't have to click "I Agree" the first time you boot you new laptop. Than it will shut down and you can install Linux on it. Windows is not really sold, so if you do not agree you do not have it that's all. No expense and no price, simply you should ask the seller to refund you windows in advance. Of course the seller will deny, this because he is a *&%**#@ù, no cost/price bullshit at all.

    Actually the EULA say that if you don't want to use it yu must return it to the retailer and you can ask for a refund.
