on any tech related topic i address for my parents (and there are quite a few), if they disagree with my advice and/or do not follow it without providing a meaningful reason why they won't, that matter is closed between us. period. i still interact with them regularly i'm just not going to waste my time arguing something where i know the solution to a problem and they choose to disagree for emotional (or whatever) reasons.
well, we're talking opinions here, and like assholes, everybody's got one. I find GNOME/GTK stuff difficult to use, you find Win32 difficult to use. Clearly the answer is KDE/Qt.
I think you may want to look into Script-Fu. It's The GIMP's scripting language. As I recall, it's LISP-ish (I'm not great with all those parens, personally) but is farily powerful and can control all (or most) of the features in The GIMP
wow, this article's been posted since 9:45 and a quick CTRL-F on the page isn't finding any references to The Mythical Man Month. I figured somebody would've recommend it.
forgive me but if someone is going to sit and critique the grammar of a slashdot post only to include something that is itself of (arguably) questionable grammatical correctness then i think my response was warranted.
I first used pico on VMS on a VAX system at UW-GB (or was it on the shell account at my ISP at the time). either way, simple and easy for a kid who grew up using EDIT in DOS. now i use nano when i ssh into my server since i'm to lazy to learn vi or emacs and run with the big dogs.
zero gravity is often times found along with something else: a lack of air. sure you could carry a compressed air canister but when it runs out, you're kind of SOL. This could use solar power to keep it going indefinitely.
in the case of a cat, i don't believe the gravity is working for it, in terms of rotating itself. I believe the principles of rotating (without something external to push against) is what's key here and that should work with or without gravity. But, I to am not a physicist, so I could be wrong.
as another poster said, this has been fixed, and if i remember correctly from the coverage on slashdot the other day, it's really an OS (Windows) issue. Moz. on other OSes wasn't affected and all browsers using the shell support suffered from this. Publicizing this as a Mozilla flaw is clearly just grasping at straws to try and drag Mozilla down. And the fact that there's already a fix for Moz. speaks highly for the developers.
my VCR allows me to rotate it freely 360+ degrees, round and round and round (Sony SLV-778HF). the speed i spin it controls the playback speed (faster or slower than normal playback speed). and in terms of the scrolling through the movie in a matter of seconds i think the fact that you'd have to move the physical tape at about mach 2 to do that is the limiting factor there. and this is hardly an apple specific jab, it's a jab at IP rights and the USPTO which is the new everyone-on-slashdot-hates-em.
So, if you have no AV software running how can you be certain your machine isn't compromised and already acting as a SPAM relay zombie or something similar.
i tend to agree. often on a website with bad contrast between background color/image and the text i'm reading i'll just highlight to improve readability. i don't want/need to copy paragraphs from a site i'm browsing.
i've often received old or semi-old equipment from people when i help them out patching their systems back together. often times it's so old all i can really do is rob jumpers off of the motherboard but occasionally a decent monitor or few year old systems will come my way. i usually just hold onto those systems/parts and use them when cobbling together other people's broken-down/in-need-of-upgrade boxes.
Defiance, Ohio is one of my favorite bands.

I'm by no means a fan of Windows in general (I'm all Linux at home), but I have to say, the win32 common dialog is quite useable.

the two weeks it took to setup and compile your system, among other things.

given a fall far/fast enough for the drag of the wind on it to right it.

it also wouldn't hurt if they had clear title to what they're claiming ownership of.

definitely apple's idea too. nothing like a jog/shuttle dial on VCR.
alright, i clearly clicked the wrong reply to link and now i can't seem to find the post in question. oh to hell with it.
