Exactly right except the IBM Deskstars. Those disks were absolutely unstoppable until they sold off their goods to fujitsu. I'm sure we'll say the same about the Thinkpads. :(

My IBM Deskstar 1.7G was one of the fastest drives of its class (if not the fastest) and it lasted me up until the present. That's almost NINE YEARS! :O Insane! Unthinkable that this drive is so bad now that they're called the Deathstars... :P

The iBook and 12" Powerbricks have a different screen manufacturer than the 15" and 17" PB's. Unfortunately the iBook screens are teh suck or maybe I'd think of getting one of those (but more likely the 12" PB.) Even after the latest "refresh" on the Powerbricks, the 12" is still the crappy iBook screen. :(

I completely agree with you on the sub-three lbs idea but have you looked at the market? Lappys this slim/light go for big dollars which Apple would never allow to go for iBook pricing. Look at their higher end of hogs - the Powerbricks aren't even close to three lbs. The iBook can never be better than the Powerbook so unfortunately this dream can never be true. :(

That's right, you could. Now what's keeping you from doing the same with DOS 6.22 or OS/2 Warp? Nothing! You could do the exact same thing with those two OS's but I'm sure you'd agree, they're basically toast, right? If the people who develop for the platform stop then the platform will rot and likely die. After all, you can still write apps for those older OS's but you don't. What makes you think you would for Linux?

I far from "cut my teeth" on WinAMP but have found that it IS a clean, simple interface! I remember my first app was some silly little app named "MP3Player" or something like that. It was on windoze and it worked well. I tried messing around with Sonique (and previously, its predecessor, can't remember the name :P) and other stupid apps on Windows. They all sucked badly compared to WinAMP. Now even though on windows I can barely stomach any player besides WinAMP, at home, I use Amarok even though I have XMMS installed.
