Price gouging... Private hospital in tiny town: $18,000 for 36 hours in a womens health room with a straight saline drip, half of that bill was for the saline drip (billed as "IV therapy", it had no meds in it and was only there so they had a line open if needed) Closest hospital equipped to deal with a 7 week preemie: $17,000 for 10 days stay total. Lifeflight, 3 days high risk pregnancy observation and blood pressure treatment, c-section, 7 days of recovery, and emergency hemorrhage treatment 2 days after the c-section
Even couple hour ER trips on the weekends where they just tell us "Sorry you're in blinding pain but I don't feel like doing anything, have some tylenol" result in multiple $5,000-10,000 bills from the hospital, doctor, nurses, oncall surgeon/anesthesia/radiology who wasn't even there and did noting.

They were going to err on the side of caution and only take 2x what was reported take in for the entire company. A very conservative estimate I know, but they can't be completely sure of just how much that obviously irrevocably sinfully evil company full of thieves and pirates hid from their earnings report. Why one professional expert's very conservative estimate put the amount of piracy on the site equal to 10 billion USD a month, so they obviously made atleast that much and used terrorist money laundering tactics to hide it from the government.
Turtles. FET = Flying Electric Turtles. That's why SSDs are so expensive still, they have to breed nano-scale turtles that are almost impossible to corral because they either fly over the tiny fence or conduct along it.
Microsoft: "What's that Money? Time to make everyone buy windows again so you can have more friends? Of course, anything for you Money."
They would have gone the "$50 patch every 3 months" route, but Apple has too many patents covering "Process for Regularly Milking Low-Intelligence Mammals, Using A Computer".
Taking into account the prices they have set for their broadband rollout trial, I'm guessing pretty darn good.
I really hope their wireless is a data only thing, giving users the choice of what voip provider to choose for their voice/text. Google talk would be an obvious choice, but skype integrates nicely with my old droid x as well. Plus, if they don't go the "subsidized phone via 2 year slave contract" route it would help bring down handset prices to sane levels.
Rather tempted to experiment with led christmas light strands if they have any leftover at walmart this year. Make a cheap grid light out of them and see how plants do.
Modem connected to the sound card of a better machine on broadband running an emulator to go bridge it to skype, which dials another computer in the same house running an emulated modem bank connected to the house broadband.
Oh how I wish I had thought this up as a joke and not seen it in production to keep a 20 year old piece of software happy...
I dunno, the end result of the digestion process is the stuff coming out the other end. Well McDonalds and Taco Bell are really REALLY efficient at passing through your system as quickly as possible. Gotta count for something nutritiously, even if they are inorganic.
Pray the judge understands that type of setup wouldn't chill online innovation, it would stop it completely with no hope ever. You couldn't even start to create anything new, because you would be committing a crime by researching how to create an illegal thing. Like someone trying to research new methods to produce meth in their garage...
Dear lord, this guy is so completely off his rocker it's no wonder the US is as fucked up as it is.
Uhm, I don't know where you got your information, but we don't consider mcdonalds burgers to be steak. Nor is the "steak" in a tv dinner considered real steak.
I can right now drive down to a local butcher and get stuff that was mooing the day before, grass or corn fed. Buffalo is also possible, and if the season is right so is antelope, deer, elk, and moose. The grocery stores carry beef sourced within 300-400 miles, tending to stay local if possible. Even the cheapy stuff I got when I lived in LA was still pretty decent and nowhere near a "congealed protein paste".
Not really. "Hold still chummer while my narcojet plays soothing music to your skin." wouldn't go over very well with security on your run. GM final say of course, maybe the corps decided to gene therapy their citizens with sloth dna or something and it would work...
Yeah, I tried that a year ago or so. At first I was happy to get to play tribes again, then I quit after my entire team started berating me for not knowing bombers were glorified missiles used to fly into the enemy base, not over it...
Or a raspberry pi with a custom case, lithium ion battery pack, and a small usb touchscreen (LCD or e-ink)? Seems another really hacker friendly option, very low power and printing a custom case means you could theme it anyway you want. Instead of a touchscreen you could use a LED alphanum display off the usb and hardware buttons off the gpio header. Only really needs a video display when it needs the audio/playlist changed, and a led display is much more visible in light than an LCD.
No laws like that around here, they would be "undue burdens on the poor defenseless companies just trying to meek out an honest living with their regional monopolies, ever increasing prices, lack of investment in infrastructure, and billions in tax breaks and government handouts..."
Wyoming is particularly bad, I think we have one 4G tower in the entire state, 3G coverage is pretty spotty even in populated areas, and chunks I-80 don't even have voice cell coverage (I-90 and I-25 are even worse). If you're lucky, you can find a mcdonalds that actually bothered to setup their corporate mandated hotspot (on a sub 1meg DSL line).
Syrup refineries have been cutting the pure maple with corn-based additives for years. Peak maple is just a myth perpetuated by Big Maple to elevate prices so they keep their income level while demand for the pure stuff drops. In reality Canada is sitting on centuries of maple just waiting to be tapped.
No such thing as freeway driving, just freeway parking. If the whitehouse could bring freeway speeds up to 50MPH california would erect a 100ft gold statue of Obama and create a week long holiday in his honor.

Streaming plus 4 nights of rentals. Wonder how much you'd end up paying to keep your physical dvd for 2 weeks+ like you can with netflix?
As I read it, it's 4 nights a month not 4 movies for as long as you want a month.
Dairy cattle don't get a say in how annoying/invasive the rancher's methods to maximize milking output are, so why should internet cattle?
Ahh yes, nothing tastier than stalking and killing a turkey with your bare hands and teeth. Their fear is the best seasoning.
Molecular gastronomy, digitally controlled immersion cooking, air-cannon impact tenderization...
Cooking is every bit as geeky as bits of circuitry.
