Every time you get into a car to drive, you could VERY EASILY kill multiple people. The slightest slip, distraction, or inattention. It happens every day.
By your argument, we should simply lock everyone up, or dress us all in giant padded sumo suits and never let each other go anywhere or do anything./me cancels moderation just to reply to horrible idea.
Yes. Much better to burn that gasoline or spend 40 minutes walking/biking then to spend 2 and use the phone. Heaven forbid those poor people at the store have to work while they're at work!
No, I generally take 2 minutes to tear out the annoying ones before I read the magazine.
I realized after I posted, however, that I should have also noted that I am only *really* bothered by annoying or super-frequent ads. Popup blockers and ad blockers were developed AFTER the audience was over-inundated with advertisement. If they had just kept things at a reasonable level, we'd still be watching the ads instead of blocking them. But they get more and more greedy and have to fit "just one more" ad in.
And here I thought I was actually PAYING for cable. What WAS I thinking. Oh -- not enough millions of dollars that way. I have to pay AND watch ads. I'm SOO sad for the Comcast &c CEOs.
Would be a great PR move -- and for THOSE children, a few thousand from daddy's pocket wouldn't hurt them at all. With any luck though, daddy is too greedy to go for it and so we won't have to worry about that perception of fairness.
Make it so that the VOLUNTEERS who run the voting locations can be thrown in jail if they make a mistake. That'll really encourage more people to help out.
Viruses and worms are now more commonly used for commercial gain then mere bragging rights. It's much easier to target the large, clueless Windows population (especially since so many are still running Windows 9x) then it is to target the much smaller Linux and Mac populations.
(NOTE: I did not say all Windows users are clueless. I merely said that there is a large population of Windows users who ARE clueless.)
That's $750 PER SONG. Share 1(one) CD? $7,500+. That's a hefty fee for putting something on Kazaa. (Compare to fines for reckless driving and the like.) Given the bandwidth most people have it's extremely unlikely that they've uploaded to more then 50 people. (The song itself may be shared more then 50 times, but not by just one person.)
>>But don't worry -- I have 50 times the retail price of a PS3
:P
Sweet -- you can afford a new car when you retire.
>>Because NAT is usually done on the 192.168.1.x network (default settings on every router I've had) and that's not a routable network.
Read the title of the post you replied to.
Do them a favor and download AVG Free (or one of the other good, free (as in beer)) anti-virus programs for them.
I misread your comment as a sarcastic poke at anyone who would read Seuss at 40. :)
Move my comment under some other post making fun of other popular "kids" authors.
What, you're too smart, too intellectual, and too all-gosh-darn-wonderful to enjoy Seuss because you're older?
Just because you can appreciate more complex prose doesn't mean that everything else is worthless.
Sounds like a case of over-inflated self-importance, or perhaps you're just too darn picky and critical. That's no way to enjoy life.
It doesn't matter that your $50k in debt--as long as you can make the minimum monthly payment!
What national debt problem?

Sheesh.
Replace photocopy with "use digital camera to copy the book".

It's to keep me from DROPPING it, not to stop me from THROWING it.
Once infected, what's to stop the program from changing the firewall to allow outgoing without notifying the user?
Software firewalls are to keep you from being attacked in the first place, or possibly for privacy. They won't protect you once you're infected.
So you paid $20 and didn't like what you got, and won't buy more episodes.
Correct?
So how is this worse then paying $50 and getting MORE of what you don't like but at a higher cost?

They always *publicize* that people are sued for downloading, but you are correct -- they are actually sued for uploading.

Early voting "results" being announced nationally leads to people NOT voting because "it's already been decided".
On the other hand, we have exit polls in the place of real results, so I guess we're no worse off.
Make it so that the VOLUNTEERS who run the voting locations can be thrown in jail if they make a mistake. That'll really encourage more people to help out.
Home audio recording act unless I've been misinformed. Allows you to copy CDs from friends without fear of being sued.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I buy only the very best MONSTER Cat5 cable. Otherwise, my tubes go slow. =(

I'm pretty sure the entire cable is in geosynchronous orbit -- not just the tip of it.
>>I'm talking putting the song on your favorite player not copying for your friend
Isn't that what the home recording act was about? (Making copies for your friends, not the 10,000 people you upload to on the net.)
It might, but the PHBs won't allow it.
