Come on mods. Funny? Yes! Insightful? Not even close.
We all get it--Linux is better; Windows is for Losers; OSX is pretty but someone else with money can buy it.
Many people use Windows daily without the problems that caused you such trauma that you continue to rant about it daily. Get over it.
Don't like Windows for idealogical reasons? Fine. Don't like it from a security standpoint? Fine. Don't like it because it looks ugly and stole your candy? Fine.
But it's impossible to take you seriously when you employ the *same tactics* of FUD that you like to claim every single time Microsoft says anything.
It's not just about the aim. It's about the ability to turn 90 or 180 degrees with the flick of a wrist. The same "insta-aim" that is possible with a mouse also makes for instant turning and THAT is a huge advantage that seems to be overlooked every time this debate comes up.
>>Fair enough, but the point was that they couldn't get into this business, even if it existed, because piracy (and I doubt that their claim is substantively false) intervened.
Seems to me that the reason they couldn't get into it is that the RIAA wouldn't license their music for online distribution until WAY too late for the little guys.
>>It doesn't matter what you have for sale - if somebody is giving it away for free and there are no consequences, you will lose.
And yet, I hear of all these online, digital music stores.
The parent notes that the grandparent ("I am a record store owner blah blah blah") is just a copy-n-paste job . Which I suppose is oddly appropriate given the subject.
(BTW, if original author is around, books are EASIER to transfer over the net -- but most people like the physical product because it offers added value over just the content.)
Virtual desktops are only marginally better then a single desktop. You can't compare two full sized windows with them, and you still have to click or hit a hotkey to switch the view.
In fact, after using virtual desktops for years, I am sick of them. The provide minimal benefit to me but are hyped as if they were a substitute for REAL desktop "real estate".
My DVDs are stored on my file server. I can browse them with my remote from my couch on my HTPC, or any other room in the house with equipment for viewing them.
If I wanted to go nuts, I could watch them from anywhere with high speed internet.
As has been mentioned, I can also load them onto a laptop to take on a trip without adding bulk.
Pathfinding and physics are all well and good -- indeed, I would love MORE processing power for pathing on Supreme Commander (fex). However, just because the Wii can't do EVERYTHING doesn't mean it can't to SOMETHING -- and do it well. I'm enjoying the Wii immensely, and that's all that really matters to me.
Don't see a single thing in the definition YOU posted that implies verification. Just reliance or confidence on someone or something. It's entirely possible to trust someone you shouldn't.
You can CODE fast enough that CPU cycles are an issue?! What kind of 5Mhz machine are you on? Do you have some amazing brain implant that lets you not only think of the code, but also input it fast enough that your computer struggles to keep up?
Which means that Jobs' argument against licensing the DRM is bogus -- which is the whole point of the article. (Yes, I know we aren't supposed to actually read them. Sorry.)
>>It doesn't matter. What they're doing is underhanded and shady.
Howso? From TFA: "I think I'll accept it: FUD enrages me and MS certainly are not hiring me to add any pro-MS FUD, just to correct any errors I see."
Wow -- that sounds shady AND underhanded. No wait -- not even close. He admits he's been hired, AND he is only going to correct errors. Wow. Sounds EVIL.
>>1. There is public information Microsoft doesn't like.
No, this is public MIS-information that Microsoft doesn't like on a PUBLIC forum. They have every right to correct those errors, but they've gone one step further and hired a third party to examine the validity of the articles and correct any errors he finds.
For credit card offers, you can (with Google's help) write one letter an you won't get any credit card offers at all for 5 years.
:)
I don't remember details, because I haven't been annoyed by credit card offers for 2 years.

I'm pretty sure that would be "in one end, out the same end"
Ugh.

At least, I think so. There's no way I'm actually clicking on your link.
So if I sell windows for your home, will I be able to buy any ads for them, or only for a Microsoft operating system?
This law is ridiculous, and I'm sure that it was bought by some lobbyist for some specific case. I doubt the lawmakers even understand it.
STILL? I recognized it, but didn't realize it was still common. Ugh.

"Rabid opponents of gay marriage came out to the poles in droves to vote for "ZOMG DON'T LET THE QUEERS CHEAPEN OUR SACRED INSTITUTIONS" resolutions,"
Because if you don't agree with them, they must clearly be deranged due to rabies?
Apparently this political debate *is* actually very closely related to the "OMG YOU FANBOI _________ OWNER! YOUR CONSOLE IS TEH SUX!" topic at hand.
Yes, but they can't afford to bribe the radio stations like the RIAA can. /me types slower so that /. will let him post.
I'd think they'd want people to believe that their product is MORE necessary, not less.
I-T
:P

>>It doesn't even ask for a password to elevate your permissions.
If you are already running as admin it doesn't. If you are running as a normal user, it *does* ask for administrator credentials.
It's a process, so you need a patent, not a copyright. :P

Other points aside, PS2 is a platform, not a format.
WMA can be licensed for all kinds of devices, and I suspect that Sony would be overjoyed to license the file format.
Zune--probably, but the 3 people who own one haven't made much of a fuss yet.

No no no. In media, mature means "appealing to high-school or college-aged males". Specifically it refers to gore, sex, and bathroom humor.
This is mature because we don't let kids have it. Our society apparently feels that frat boys are mature.
Thoughtful? Intellectual? We poke fun at those things. (Because we're mature.)
