I'll try to answer with my sloppy language.

When you use "copyrighted" to mean "unlicensed", you strengthen the dangerous myth that copyright is a special thing that only protects commercial works, and that it's illegal to share copyrighted materials with your friends. The record companies want you to believe that, because they damn well don't want you to find out that there's free music out there that it's legal to copy and share, because that threatens their business.

Please explain to me how sharing copyrighted (which is exacly what I meant, not "unlicensed") work, like the latest Madonna song or Spielberg movie, is legal? It's not even legal to borrow a DVD to/from somebody ; merely tolerated. Well in Europe anyway, I don't know about the US.

You can link to illegal content. You're pointing to it, you aren't hosting it. It's perfectly legal. What's wrong with these people.

I don't want to live in a 1984-style society. But comments like this are not fair. Yes it's legal to link to illegal content, sort of. But when the _only_ purpose of a server is to link to illegal content, you have to be retarded to think it's just for research, or study or for the sake that it's not illegal.

This intent of this server's owners is clear: they wanted to exploit a legal loop to provide copyrighted content. They played, they lost. They knew the rules, otherwise they wouldn't have tried to exploit them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for free, legal downloads for a private use. But these people can't say they didn't see this coming, unless they are liars.

The publisher is Bethesda Softworks, known for The Elders Scrolls series, among other titles. As a French myself, I couldn't tell the differences beetween the regular Police Nationale and the Gendarmerie. They both give you fines for speeding, control your alcohol level, or look for fugitives. I think the difference is maybe the Gendarmerie is more reliable. Being military they are maybe more apt to follow orders.

By the way, the Gendarmerie Nationale is best known for its SWAT unit, the GIGN (Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, National Gendarmerie Intervention Group).

It's your opinion that a large bandwith is not useful. Fine. Don't pay for one. But a lot of people are willing to pay for high speed connectivity, because for their activities, speed matters. I only quoted my hobbies, but what about people doing home office? I receive like 80-120 emails a day, and I want to download them as fas as I can and be done with it.

Not to mention triple play. Now that our phones, TV programs and Internet share the same tube, I say it's good to have a larger bandwith, allowing a better audio and video quality, while not impacting on the download speed.

  17. Not time sensitive? on Does Faster Broadband Matter? · · Score: 1
Most online activities, like standard websurfing, are not significantly sped up by high-bandwidth connections, and the few that are, such as downloading, are not typically time-sensitive anyway.
Did you ever try to download the demo of an anticipated game? These things are as large as 1 Gb these days. Did you ever try to watch the high-res version of a trailer? They can reach 300 Mb easily. Did you ever try to buy an album online and want to listen to it RIGHT NOW? Well, I never bought music online, but I suppose when you buy a song you want to listen to it as soon as possible, if possible not 30 minutes later. Did you ever try to download a full Linux distribution because you lost the DVD and need to reintall your system pronto because your HDD crashed and your mother wants your holiday pictures (ok, that one is far etched)? Do you have a girlfriend that slows your connection, making you lag in Battlefield 2, because she's sending her dog's picture by MSN to her friends ? Sometimes you don't want to setup QoS on your router and just want more room in the tube.

Bottom line is, there are many times where speed is "for nerds, and that stuff matters". Because I don't want to start a download and have to wait until the day after to access the file (whatever it is).
