    That said, I would rather be SSHing from a real terminal on my phone (like I do on my jailbroken iPhone) than a self-contained application. It's absolutely a control thing for me.

    I always thought Verizon was the goddamned devil. Apparently both the Fucking Devil and the Goddamned Devil use CDMA.

    Specifically, Verizon loves to disable features of phones such that things that would otherwise be free cost money because you have to go through their network in order to do them. It is a core facet of their business model.

    Software locks in the form of chroot jails and forbidding root on your own device, such as those that Android phones and the iPhone line have.

    If this obstruction is removed, my (jailbroken) iPhone will be on eBay faster than you can say "screw you, Steve Jobs."

    I also think running Windows on a Mac is just ignorant, and throwing away even more money.

    The point of running Windows on a Mac is so that you can have one machine that does everything, including playing games (or running $WINDOWS_ONLY_APP). It means that the same machine that you get all your work done on can be used for leisure time. This is enormously convenient. How is it "ignorant" or "throwing away money?"

    I've been very satisfied with the experience of using my Macbook Pro to play games. Just because it's not as good as a Sager SLI machine doesn't mean it's not enjoyable.

    As it is, Android is just as much of a walled garden as official iPhone development is.

    There is no access to the device outside of the Java sandboxes.

    Because false hype makes the product better.

    It did with the iPhone. False hype led to the jailbreaking effort and eventually got Apple to do something they originally didn't want to do: "Mere mortals" developing native ABI applications for the iPhone. It turned the iPhone into a developer platform instead of a toy.

    How the hell does this make any sense?

    The whole POINT of Macs has been, in part, to enable Average Joe to do digital content creation. To let ordinary people do extraordinary things, with pictures, video, music, etc. Now you take the best-selling Mac ever and remove its ability to import video?

    What the hell are they thinking?

    The Acer Aspire One is more powerful than a 3 year old laptop for the same price, has usable IO and is very durable.
