If the bulk of the increase is from javascript wouldn't turning on compression on the web server solve the problem? They're text files, they compress down massively.
Just think how long it would take companies without access to virtually unlimited funds and brain power. It's no wonder everyone is reluctant to make the move.
There's nothing wrong with doing on-call as long as you accept that the job comes with it or get paid extra if you're asked to do it in a current role.
I agree with you about not realising how much of an effect it has until you stop doing it though. When I stopped about 4 years ago it took some time to get used to being able to go out in the evenings without having to worry about getting called.
It's worse than a poor choice of password. UK mobile carriers used to use a default 4 digit PIN that could be used to access your voicemail from another line. Most people didn't bother changing it from the default, so all you had to do was get directed to their voicemail (by simultaneously calling their number from another phone) and then enter the PIN.
According to this story from 2006, Google signed a $900m agreement to power the MySpace search between Q4 2006 and Q2 2010. The caveat is that it was, "so long as Fox achieves its expected traffic levels and other commitments." Either way Murdoch hasn't lost quite as much as the headline figures suggest.

I know RIM's main target market is business, but if they want to compete with Apple and Android in the consumer market they've got to stop making BIS compulsory. It's a mandatory cost that makes plans £60/year more expensive than a comparable plan with an iOS or Android phone. My mail connection to Google is already secure, I don't need an extra layer of RIM encryption.
He's not some Joe Schmoe programmer who happened to get lucky with his choice of job, he has a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics and has worked with NASA for virtually his entire career.
Amazon recently bought Lovefilm, the UK's equivalent of Netflix, and they have (very limited) streaming. With a bit of luck amazon.co.uk at least will introduce it.
It sounds like you should stick to playing downloaded MP3s. One of the joys of this type of service is discovering music you otherwise might not have; inevitably there will be tracks or artists you don't like though.
If it's the case that borrowing funded the industrial revolution then I'd say that's a pretty good investment. There's nothing wrong with borrowing to invest, it's when you borrow to fund your current account you're in trouble. Like we are now.
I installed iTunes on XP and ended up with about 4 services, a startup entry and an Outlook Add-in (that stops Outlook closing properly, incidentally). WTF does does iTunes need an Outlook Add-in for?
I've never heard of Dota or played Warhammer III; I do, however, have Steam installed and own all of Valve's games. It's not just existing Dota players who this will be aimed at, it's people like me.

In the UK BBs are good because of the cheap monthly contracts compared to other phones
Really? I have to pay £5/month on top of my data allowance for the privilege of connecting to BIS.

You've got that the wrong way round - the Electron came after the BBC Model B (and Master) but didn't really catch on.
We need a way to mod someone 'Actually read the article'

You're doing it wrong.
The British government? None. Private CCTV on the other hand, yes, very probably, but that's not unusual in a shopping mall in any country.
Is this a new service that ./ is trying? Will the other parties also get their statements posted word for word?

Unless Dropbox does block-level tracking you would end up re-uploading the entire encrypted volume every time you modified a file inside it.
Worst poem ever.
Thanks. I read xkcd in Google Reader and today's just showed up as a normal cartoon. Without your comment I would have missed this.
I upgraded from 3.6 to b12 and it upgraded extensions that needed to be and disabled extensions and plugins that weren't compatible.

Entering license keys is just about the only time I use it.
Any box on the internet that doesn't have all ports except 80, 443 (if needed) and an ssh port firewalled is nuts.

It's basically a telnet GUI, right?
