    why don't you read the article? they cannot sue if they obtain the evidence illegaly. get it? they cannot sue. it is overall more complicated but that's the basic idea.

    in linux you can set it in /etc/inittab, you can set it to do whatever you want. And it does not matter whether root is logged in or not.

    except of problem of being harrased all the time there is another problem:

    some recruiters just send your resume and figure that they will worry about contacting you later, which may result in your resume being sent more then once and therefore being rejected outright...

    note that generally you install OS once, then upgrade forever. considering this, which is more important - slick installation or smooth upgrading?

    they are working on installation though...

    why are the leading spaces ignored? this post has two leading spaces in the text box where I write this but the ones before first paragraph are ignored when the post is actually posted... (posting as plain old text)

    I was mainly interested in gymnastics and watched as much as I could and I can tell you it was covered so poorly that I still cannot believe it. The whole idea of having an evening of 20 minute long individual pieces coverig gymnastics and few other unrelated sport, with no schedule is stupid beyond most of what I've seen on commercial TV.

    of course, what they actually showed made it unworthy of waiting through the evening (not that the gymnasts that were shown are not excellent). They didn't even show the chinese men! well, they had few minutes summary where they showed few clips...

    if you think that gymnastics was covered better than the rest, well, that just shows how poor the olympics coverage was... I hope the TV ratings went down.

    well, since mac os X is bsd based I see no reason why you can't run X server (I think it already uses X server, right?) + fvwm / gnome / kde / enlightenment... there goes your "single, elegant, easy-to-use UI". Aqua will be just one of the many mac UIs:-))

    food for thought: I work as a programmer, a company pays me a then, believe it or not, they run my program as many times as they want, without paying me. they can even trade my programs on the napster.

    I guess the artists should be paid, but why should they be paid everytime their music is used/transferred etc?

    note: the above is not worded as an argument (it's full of holes) but more as inspirational thoughts that can lead to a little bit further then where you went in your post...

    being a slovak currently living in US I'd have to say:

    fat free food is a crap. you're fooling your eyes but you can't fool your body - if you eat something that does not have appropriate amount of calories you will be hungry even if you have your stomach full. you have to eat again and it creates discomfort etc...

    it's also basically uneatable - just look at the what they sell as yougurt in in US.

    the sugarless stuff is the same - sorry attempt to fool yourself. while pumping your body with chemicals.

    if you don't believe me check how many obese people are in us and in europe.

    obese people have either psychological problems (diet food is not going to solve them), or some real problems...

    now I am not saying that one should eat bacon and bacon mostly, but this fat free and sugarless craze in US is silly, even harmful.

    what would phone support actually do? you phone in and ask: "is that G minor you play at the end of the third verse?" :-))

    selling printed manuals (=sheet music, off the record (not for the piano ONLY!)) would be great. in lot of cases I would buy sheet music + CD where I am not interested in CD alone (I like to play different music than I like listen to...)

    some testing tools for windows (e.g. QARun) let you capture any text that appears on the screen wheter it's cut&paste-able or not... it has to be displayed using fonts, of course, if it's bitmap you have to use OCR.

    I do not know about bill payment but I am using wells fargo online banking (I can see balances on my accounts, transaction for last two months and I can do transfer from one of my wells fargo account to another one of my wells fargo accounts) from linux (using various version of netscape for about two years now) and I just tried it from solaris (netscape 4.5) and it works.
