  1. Re:MS FindFast + NTFS ~= WINFS? on WinFS to be available in WinXP · · Score: 1

Why upgrade in the first place? I have a WindowsME sitting at my folk's home, used for e-mailing, chatting and little else. I think it's been lucky in the spyware dept, cos nobody surfs around much and most of the spyware would be targetting XP now ... but it does everything that "needs to be done".

When my present WinXP laptop wears off, I'll either hunt down a 100% Linux compatible laptop (this one has winmodem) or just get whatever's top edge when I'm buying the next one. Either way, I get a hardware/software combination that works. Then I don't even think about upgrading until it wears out in its turn ...

Okay, if you need to use software which has compatibility issues, but are there that many around any more? Not trolling, just wondering if there *is* a good reason to keep up with the Joneses.

In The Hobbit, gnomes were used to refer to the Noldor, but Tolkein changed that because of the stereotype gnome being short-and-fat and very unelvish (in the Tolkein universe). An overweight Noldor would look a lot like an overweight human. And, if the movies are to be believed, very gay, but I'm not buying that ...

The way I see it, the money will just make sure that it gets on top of Slashdot :) and thus a lot of geeks, some with free time, will see it and go, "hey, that sounds interesting - and there's even something in it for me if I do it right!"

People who wouldn't have otherwise thought of trying to clean up Gnome will give it a shot. Go, Novell!

    Dear horsebutt,

You have used the phrase "copying movies" in your Slashdot post #11810495, dated March 1st. We remind you that copying movies is a dangerous and illegal activity, which can have harmful effects ranging from misguided threats of legal action from MPAA legalbots to being made to sit through Gigli. Think of all the millions of Hollywood actors living on the streets and eating out of dumpsters because of your thoughtless, violent and evil crime.
