I am a Microsoft Partner (prepares for the/. bashing) and we got a 2003 SBS R2 machine, and sold it to an end user, so as you have already seen, your comment is not necessarily accurate.
...and damned if you don't. Sure, I know we at/. tend to love our Microsoft bashing, but really, arn't we sometimes blinded by our dislike for M$? I am sure we all remember the fiasco of Windows 95. What was the problem? It was released too soon. And we sure had a hay day about that. "They should test their software before going into production" or some such thing as that, which is very true.
But now what is happening? When Microsoft actually DOES want their software to have as little bugs in it as possible, we get all in arms about not being able to release software! Come on guys, we can't have our cake and eat it too.
And no jokes on my analogy *points in your general direction*.
They actually DO use male names for storms. This season already we have had Dennis and Nate, just to name two. The reason as to why they branched out into the greek alphabet is beyond me though.
My vote would definatly be a mango. The stickyness gets everywhere and combined with the fact that they are VERY juicy, you are left with one large sticky mess. Ever spill a nice can of pop on your keyboard? Same thing.
Maybe I got a lemon or something, but I have installed my own software, compiled it and I have gotten it to work about 30% of the time, and that is with spending much time in vi.
I concede that it is really nice to ssh into it and such, but in general, I have had more problems than it has been worth.
I have taken to needing to back up all of my stuff to a computer, because if I am not careful and don't put the Zaurus on to charge, it will lose EVERY SINGLE piece of data in a week that is on the flash drive, and the SD card that I use has had its partition tables fubared up quite a few times completly spontaniously. The sync software and cradle have never worked on any system I have tried.
I work as a network tech, and it is great for sniffing wireless networks (kismet is great), sniffing network traffic (tcpdump works, but I will give $50 if they can get ethereal to work on my thing) and taking notes and such, but while it is great for customizing, the range that it is useful for isn't great.
I am glad that people seem to be having luck with them, but it really doesn't work for me.
I own a Zaurus 5500 and have used a 5600, and judging from my use of these two systems, I would not recomend doing much with these PDA's if you want to add much software that does not come with it.
I was overjoyed with the prospect of linux on a PDA and got it, and the build in keypad seemed to be a great asset. Compact flash AND SD card slots made me think that this little thing was a diamond in the rough. But it went downhill. They keypad would sometimes malfunction and require a reboot to get it to work again, package finding for the zaurus is a nightmare, and don't bother trying to find a belt holster for it without getting one custom made.
They are great using for little apointment scheduling, wireless lan sniffing, network diagnosis (what I do with it) and playing the odd game of destroyer, but really, if you are thinking about the wonderful linux stability and versitility, you may have to think again.
If a thief is even half-way smart, he would be able to take all the information he would ever need without anyone even knowing he was anything other than an ordinary customer. I don't know of that many thieves that would dearly love for their actions of scoping a place to be obvious.
Much like the example, I walked around a store, and looked up at random video cameras throughout the store. This so freaked out the store manager on duty that she called the police, and not one, not two, but THREE cops showed up to deal with me.
Now, I could be wrong, but I think that it is a little extream to have the cops come out after you just for looking at the camera's in a store. I am also in charge of the security cameras at my college, and if someone started looking up at them, I would think "They must be interested in security cameras" and if they photographed them, I would wonder why, but for goodness sake...
I may get flaimed for this, but I think that America is turning more and more into a police state. The more we want protection, the happier we are to give up our rights and thank the person we are giving them to.
First off, this web site is always listing PC's from Dell with those kinds of prices. Sure, the rebates and deals will end tonight, but another one always follows.
Rebate hell? I think not. Rebates are childlishly simple. I have done quite a few, and rebates that will get back about $400? Sign me UP! It is a shame BestBuy customers can't quite grasp the concept...

I have had about five WD drives, and have had two die on me, but they were replaced within days. My problem was also crummy air flow in the case (plus I in one of my smarter moments put the case near the heater.) But the moral of the story is that WD has treated me great with their 5,600 and 7,200 RPM models (IDE & SATA.) I agree that almost any HD company have a little cheering and booing crowd for them, but I have found WD to be good drives. It has been Segate for me that have failed up the ying-yang
And with SP1 no longer supported, with all these fixes (granted, some are Office) people will feel even more forced to use SP2.. yey for Microsnot.
They recalled it on July 28... For /. I am surprised we took this long to find an oportunity to slam Microsnot.

One piece of spyware missed is too many, I agree, but is there a software vendor out there that produces a Anti-Spyware product that DOES get it all?
It could be just me, but there doesn't seem to be that much modding today at all, so you might be gettin' off scott free

Bleth. Bleth I say.

Good fruit though.

That might keep the odd CPU or two cool for a while...
Dang, I would have to agree... But then that could also describe most of the posters on ./
