I understand how you feel. but please don't give up after one try.
Most people who have used windows for a couple of years have a hard time adjusting to another way of thinking and doing things.
When you start to understand the details of GNU/Linux you will be able to gain a whole new level of control that you will ever get with windows.
If you are fed up with mandrake, try fedora, suse or libranet or whatever.. just don' give up:)
Perhaps it's not easy, but it can definetly be done, Good luck!
I had the same expreience as you 2 or 3 years ago with red hat 8, but I kept going and never gave up. Now I'm a happy gentoo user who will never switch back to windows.
Oh and about the codecs, you compile (follow the instructions) mplayer with all codecs built in, then you _never_ have to install a codec again.. very nice indeed.
I installed Firefox 0.9 on my aunts pentium 200mhz with 64mb ram. The speed is acceptable and the stability is great (compared to IE that had some severe issues on that box (w98)).
Of course there are pages that will display very slow, so more speed is always welcome.
I firmly belive that the GPL is superior to the BSD license...
Anyway, if it were not for RMS at least I would still be a MS-zealot.. and that would have been horrible. Those essays over at fsf.org truly raise some exellent points.
Sounds like you need to enable DMA.
btw could somebody please mod me up.. I did one "first post" post that got Troll status and now all my posts start at -1:(
If you are using 2.4.x then I suggest that you turn off ACPI in your bios, since that causes lockups on nforce2 mobos (works perfectly in 2.6 though). The built in network card on the Nforce2 has native support in 2.6.2 and later.
Nvidias drivers are better optimized for windows, just compare ut2k4 for example.. at elast 30% more fps in win on the same hardware:|
So both Nvidia and especially ATI has got some work to do on their drivers...
Here's a swedish bank that's 100% IE.. all I'm getting with moz (and konq) is a blank page, havent tested it with opera though.
(I have emailed and complained about it, but they don't seem too eager to fix it.)
Take a look at the source code of the hacked www.antipiratbyran.com O_o
What page do you think it should be on if not the front page?
Nice :)
I always thought BSD users would prefer Gentoo over any other distro, since it has the same package system (wich really makes the whole distro, imho).
Nice to see that the support for Ogg is increasing as I've been thinking of moving all my mp3s to Ogg in order to save some space.
Using a diffrent client would at least prevent the worm from spreading to your friends.

I agree. I rather deify RMS if someone since he is the man behind the entire movement. Without him Linux might never have left Linus's bedroom.
Agreed! Let's all write them an email and demant that RMS gets in. Without him there would be no GNU/Linux.
or marsian
Do what I do, choose the "nothing to declare" lane.

Support for the Nforce2's built in network card was added in 2.6.2, IIRC.
crap...
ever! I'm so happy! :D
