Enough people (in China) just kept on bloging or whatever.
What are the pigs gunna do.. arrest 1.5B people?
Meanwhile, all those young guys who are in the army have friends and loved ones who are contributing to the technological advances that allow them (the army guys) to enjoy the InterNet like everyone else in the world.
So it is not just the arswhole tech-guys that work for the government who are contributing (good or bad) to China's InterNet technologies.
I can NEVER understand why everyone always *acts like* leaders of countries have such power. THEY DON'T.. But they do have-to-have millions of people who agree with them (or not), and that is why/how they ever get anything done (good or bad).
Hitler, Sadamm and OBL would be nothing more than a *Big-Mouth* (like me) if they hadn't been so persuasive and in-line with what MILLIONS (BILLIONS?) of every-day folks already thought!
I just don't think the millions of cops or army guys in China will start arresting everyone, if it meant doing it would interfere with China's social or economic position in the world.
The question is, at what (Tipping-Point) would the amount of citizens would it take to make the leaders think that it would be counter-productive to arrest so many people.:)
You probably did more to help make the Chinx decide AGAINST censorship.. cause... well.. How would they come up with such great f'n laffs without imput from clowns like you (us)!! =:O
Apple has always been a radical leader in making the computer easy for the common man.
Darwin, Linux and BSD (and all the other Unices) are just that *Unix*!! And there is NOTHING that can stop it's diametric (and bewildering) course of diversity while maintaining it's incredible *core* functions as a network operating system.
And there is NO reason to think that Steve is going to do anything *less* radical in the future with Apple/Darwin.
*He* has ALWAYS scared and worried the community (Apple's) and suprised everyone else with his projects and plans.
It is obvious that where he is going with this Intel deal. He is going to wait until enough work has been done on hacking Darwin into x86, but before these hacks have a chance to change the market toooo much, with great fanfar.. he'll anounce that he will sell a copy a OSX to run on X86's.
This of course will rock the Gates of the evial dragoon, because it will allow for more choices for humanity.
And I'm sure the *Steve Man* will be more than glad to still sell his hardware for those who will want the higher-end versions of the products.:)
Unless you had a project or programms that ran specifically for Macs, then you paid tooo much.
Many, if not most (including me recenlty) did not realize that there is a reason that there are sooo many *Linuxs* out there!
It's because.. each of the (ie.live cd's) usually has a specific *task* that it is very good at.
If you try to push that particulare version of Linux beyond that, you are going to have to put some time into making it do (the things it wasn't really created for)
True, most *versions* of linux still leave alot to be desired, but what os doesn't?
And remember, Mac's, Linux, BSD, etc (all except Windows of course) are UNIX based!:)
Thats if he's still the *Steve Man* we all know and love:)
He is now starting his move to fully enter the Wintel arena..
First this expansion of using more x86 chips. Then, as others (corps, programmers & hackers) from the Unices develope osX to run on regular x86 systems, he will release an osX specifically for x86's.
Even tho, like has been explained in this thread, that there will be many *glitches*.. well, so what, look how many *glitches* there are now with ALL the os's on x86's!
The benefit to Steve (and the rest of us) will be more choices, Mac OSX will be *sold* as a seperate package for a humongous new market..
ahhhhnd, for those who still don't want to worry about *compatibility* or driver problems, Steve will still be glad to sell you the latest (and greatest) hardware that'll run Darwin;)
last time i checked, what you are discribing is NOT *ShareWare*, but some sort of *cripple ware*.
True shareware allows the user to use it to its FULLEST ablilities, and when the user is satisfied that it is something that he can truely use or not, he either pays the writer or destroys his copies.
The only limits I remember (on the original intent of shareware) was for the time period you had to test it, and even that was only a (non-binding) thing added to get people to try it or get off the pot. ie the program never locked up and more importantly, you were NEVER threatened with any lawsuits etc.
Just because the original *INTENT* of shareware has changed, doesn't make it any less of a unique way of software writers to advertise their wares.
Your example, even when taken in context of your idea of shareware does not even come close to acurate since m$ has not and never was known to put forth any such type of system for people to evaluate the programs, to such a liberal degree.:)
but there are still plenty of good guys (ie those that hate m$ & love uni) that are stuck dealing with m$ in their jobs, who have cheapo bosses who want *everything*, but don't want to dish out for updgrades or whatever.
plus i think this is just for fun anyway (although i'm not dun readying the thread..so i'm not sure about that).
remember, m$ (its code anyways) is gunnu be around allllong time, even after unix over takes it.. soooo, we have to give credit, support and patience to the poor (unix-nerds who are stuck trying to deal with both uni & m$ at their jobs.:)
Amerika didn't win the war, Germany *lost* it.. that is a BIG differnce, because it leaves the door open for future continuene of the conflicts.
AHHND, there is ABSOLUTELY no difference between the ambitions of the Germans (to win the war, with/without nukes) and our (Amerika & allies) to threaten the inilation of the world with nukes (eg.Japan) if people don't accept *our brand of Freedom*. In fact, the latter seems more absurd, vicious and evil.
It is obviouse that the *winners* write history, old greivances still fester, and there is absolutely NO difference whether the whole human race was *forced* into blond & blued people, or what is happening today with *multiculturism*, which destroys ALL races & culture..:)
Lets face it, we (community) do not need to form any *official* Union!
With nearly total anarchy (or 'leze fair' to be more acurate), look how muc *trouble* we've able to bring upon the corporate Beast. And the only tools we're using, is free and superiour software.
Imagine what the next few years might bring, if we have been able to do this without not only unions, but corporations or megalomaniacs like gates.
Linux is soooo much more than just an os platform.. it is.., or rather it *represents*.. to the core, the clashing of the extreme diametric cultures (ie. good v. evil) we experience within the human race...
as far as the wine project, well if you think about it alittle further, the more wine is able to handle *ALL* programs written specifically for m$ (which from my understanding, they are getting MIGHHHHHTY close), the less people will *have* to buy m$.. which means.. m$ eventually goes outa business!!:)
I walked into my local mom-pop shop recently, suprised to have one of the guys hand me a copy of Ubuntu!
I doubt Ubuntu has the resources to just give these to computer stores. So I'm assuming either some geek in the company or other local nerd (like you & me) is evangelizing quietly but surely:)
I didn't get a chance to look at the cd cover of the Ubuntu disk.. so I don't know who was behind that part of it.
As far as helping people with their viruses, etc, well, if people dont' relize by now with all the publicity and problems associated with m$ products these days, then they just don't wanna know.
But since the customer is always right, and if their application needs are not tied to m$ specifically), the answer for the virus/spyware should again be as simple to offer Linux products.
And finally for all of the remarks in this thread about 'the bottom line' etc..., well the real bottom line to most people (customers) is being happy with what they got, for the money they spent... not if the people who sold them the product/services are making money.
There is no special, inherint, magical, sure-fire-way to make money in business.. just the opposite in fact.
People go into business to 'try and make money', but if they go into for just that reason, their chances are no better than the rest of the 9-10 or so that fail the first 4 years.
I try to make sure that I will enjoy whatever venture (business) that I get into, with only the money I can *afford* to loose, this way I don't start talking like others in this thread who think the whole world revolves around whether they can figure out how to survive in a business.
says the young man.. but I *had to* burned my copy of XP out of frustration because I couldn't get it to play all those cool games you are telling me about!! (as the young man starts to become impatient)
Do you have a copy of that new fangled *Linux* OS so I can run that incredibly qool *Tux-Racer* game??
assistant: (grumbles.. as he goes back to the stock room to look for Tux..)
After all, the quicker someone, anyone puts an end to the illegal (world) bank system, the better off all the poor and working stiffs will be.
The people who are *supposedly* defrauding innocent people, are actually only taking from the rich.
Those rich bastards are not loosing anything anyway (mostly) because the pig-banks will reimburse them.
Think about how much banks contribute to society; some fat bastard sits there in a fancy building, waiting for someone who doesn't need money, to come in and deposit their riches that they stole off the working class stiffs. Then mr. piggy-banker gives the rich man more money so they start another (legal) scam called a *corporation*.
I say use vigilantiism to burn the banks down (or better yet turn them into homeless shelters or clincs for the disabled) and arrest everyone involved with the banking industry for the last 50 years or so (to start out with) and give the 'scammers' a position of authority which they are earning.:)

WE can blow the cops *scull-caps* off when then come.
Then why don't you explain mr/ms smarty pants, how *labeling* someones remarks because it STINKS, is CENSORSHIP!!
but hold on, it seems that it is not far down the road. read my comment just below yours

yea i just got a copy (of the program only, i didn't look for the code)
i just googled and on the first link AFTER the main sight by the auther(his is down obviously), i was able to download the exe.
when it (the screen) asked me if i live in a country that *allowys* it, i gave them an answer which equals *none-of-your-business* :)
(we don't wanna give the enemy any ideaSSS!!)
sounds like u pissed The *Bill* Man himself, eh?

where gettin their!!

Don't you think this question needs to be answered:
Is it *illegal*(this information), to hack something that has already been found to be *illegal*(m$ monopoly)? :)
you pronounced *lawyers* wrong.. its *LIERS*.
true..
but there are still plenty of good guys (ie those that hate m$ & love uni) that are stuck dealing with m$ in their jobs, who have cheapo bosses who want *everything*, but don't want to dish out for updgrades or whatever.

It is simply like all other laws:
- constantly under review
- constantly found to be *illegal*
- continuely remanded, revoked (retroactivley)
and continuely *ignored* by the masses.. until the courts or whoever get around to removing them!
In other words.. all laws are subjective, period.
-- Peww! You can smell a lier.. I mean a lawyer a mile away!!
And the fight is far from over..

sorry, i shoulda put the link to The Wine Project http://www.winehq.com/ in my last post
thanx for the idea.. but i can't find anything specific about *LETS*? can u give more info? I'm in the states tho
The *WINE* project is another thing i'm investigating as a great way to put m$ outa-their-missery.
