i think it didn't 'make it' into the graph (poll) because it is SO new. the survey DID mention ubuntu however-- as part of the reason deb #'s went down.
a reason it didnt' make the survey could be that; this survey was done around last december.. and i think ubuntu has only been released recently (at least i never heard of it until sometime last year.)
Ubuntu is definitely making head way, because i had a local computer company try and give me a copy of it!! they had a stack of them for all to take as you entered the store!! soooo someone at ubuntu (in marketting) is really on the ball to pull this off!!:)
the word 'illegal' is the MOST- SUBJETIVE word in the english language.
And YES-- 'WE' do think we are 'CLEVER',... and we will proves ourselves more & more clever when we start to 'call-the-bluffs' of the corporate criminals-- using ALL options availible..
nice try, but i suppose the fact that this 'secret specialized knowledge' is something only liers--- i mean lawyers (judges etc) 'understand' or 'know', would make it NOT subjective (in your mind or thinking).
you are saying that juries then, are 'taught' this magical knowledge (of the law) in such a brief period of time by attorneys!?
However for the rest of us layman:(who you imply are 'imbacils'), we'll just keep believing that 'The Law' is something that is CONSTANTLY; challenged, defined, 'fought-over', 'remanded' (retro-actively many times), and of course just plan ruled--- 'Un-Constitutional' or 'ILegal'. Which of course 'YOU SAY' has nothing to do with being subjective?!
You are only 'kidding' yourself.. and people 'like you'.
backwards compatibilitz?? u mean like with 'Edlin';)
and as far as 'legal & morally' bound.. The words 'legal' and 'moral' are two of the MOST subjective words in the world.
yea, because everyone knows ms is nothing more than a front for a software company. Their record for stealing and crushing 'real' companies has been noted by most. This tool probably won't help find illegal activities however in their code.
However, since we already 'know' that ms steals code, ideas, in violation of gpl, open source (linux specifically), copywrite and patent infringment, then it is obviouse that it is time to 'make-them' open up their code (like sco is/was trying to do) in a court of law.
This would not only help kill the evil giant, but would allow the (world) community (oss) to make it easier to switch over to software that will be more user friendly, without waiting for criminals like bill gates to stifel more advances.:)
well, if you are really interested in 'protecting' your kids, raise them well enough where they don't take pictures of themselves and put them on the net (which is what is happening mostly on the net apparently).
i'm also VERY wary of parents who 'act' like they are so worried that there kids (usually in puberty) are starting to want to have a mate (sex). It seems parents with this attitude have some sort of 'ulteriour' motives, which are actaully just as sick, if not sicker than someone who wants to 'abuse' children--by looking at pictures of them.
The only 'abuse' I see in our society, is people (parents usually) who are trying to keep young people (in puberty--no matter how young) from finding a mate, so they can have a normal sex (life) and be happy.
bring it on..
you sound like an amerikan, 'yellow bellied', 'real' child mollester.
i think you need to be investigated and brought to justice before you hurt anyone else.
i'm serious.
- maybe get killed by so called 'do gooders' who want to punish every 'of-age' male who wants to screw a 17 year old (who is usually screwing everyone else in town when she can)?
it is amazing (at least here in the usa) that a young person (how ever young) will never be bothered for being a 'queer', having dildos, playing with themselves or 'messing around' with each other. nor will you see anything on tv or mass media about this, but..
if an older more responcable person and a person of puberty have a consentiual 'normal' affair, you see it all over the newz and the male (usually) goes to jail for nearly the rest of his life!!
the problem of child porn and mollestation is a bad thing, and a problem, but NOT to the proportion that is shown in the mass media.. why?
because most if not all of the people crying wolf are trying to hide their evils which are equal or greater than the problems they claim to be taking on.
they are creating a world that is worse than the one the are 'so-called' trying to fix, by making everything that is normal and healthy into a 'bad thing', while letting all of the really dangerouse 'life-styles' florish.
i say we start 'hunting' down all these so-called 'do gooders', see whats in their closets, and bring them some justice (old fashion, vigilanty, angry mob type).
It's always individuals that contribute to projects, especially in large companies.
But there is more incentive for us 'little' guys to learn how to fight and protect ourselves from people like $ill Gates and eventually get our share.
Everyone loves you when you are rich or successful, but when you are struggling as an entrepreneur, nobody will help you.
I personally believe it is MORE important to 'feel rich' inside my heart, than having my bank account over-floweth, than the 'other way around'.
Also, if we DON'T give up, then we get to keep most of our profits, and tell everyone else who discouraged us or were mean while we tried to build a livelyhood, to "..#@&*#$@*+$#@..!!"
LIke most large organizations, the 'Open Source Community' initially started with very few people, probably actually only one at the very beginning.... sooooo.. "take that, Bill Hates!!!":)
Linux needs all the help it can get. As a destop user mostly, I am seemingly just as frustrated with distributions, installs, and updrades with the mirad of Unix varients, as I am with Windoze. The main difference of course, is with Linux, at least you can either fix the problems that bother you (me), or you can be assured they will be fixed by our community eventually.. instead of waiting for 'Bill Hates to help'.
Sun seems to have a VERY well respected following and reputation, as a 'high end, server, networking and hardware' company. So I don't expect Solaris10 to be 'easy, or preddy'. However, because it is 'that much' closer to the original t 'Unix', I will be glad to 'put up' with the learning curve.
I am usually NOT for big corporations, but when any of them seem to be joining the fight against Micro$oft and it's supporters, I regain my faith in mankind.
As a result of Sun's wonderful news today, I will be able to install an OS that I'v only been able to read and dream about for years.
btw, you CAN down load it now (I waited till I got my files first;) here.. http://sun.com/
All this talk about how Canada is restricting everyones freedom (of speech) is just NOT true. From the research I did, I find just the opposite. What Canadians' (goverment) seems to want to project to the world is, that they want to protect people from ALL guns, ALL violent speech, etc. But in reallity, as seen in part here: http://www.evangelicalfellowship.ca/cwatch/article _viewer.asp?CW_Article_ID=24
Facts speak louder than words. In the midddle of the article it clearly points out (in current law) that conversations in private do NOT fall under the law (as in the usa.) Furthermore, I have personal, first hand experience of the usa laws conserning 'threats in communications'. In Canada the accussed gets to prove whether he/she really meant a threat (ie. a REAL planned physical one), and whether he/she had spoken the truth (regardless of the pugnency of the words involved). Whereas in the 'land-of-the-free', the person who received the threat, gets to determine if the accussed is 'guilty', simply by stating that they 'felt threatened', which of course creates a land where the law is based soley on whatever is the popular political view of the prosecuter, as opposed to a single standard which everyone must be held up to.
As far as gun ownership, well, you'd think by nearly every article and reference in discussions, that guns are 'TOTALY BANNED' in Canada. This is not even close to the truth! Those who choose to hunt there legally, have enough guns to over-throw several small u.s. states!
So please, peoples, scratch the surface of any issue that seems to be so 'obviously' true, and usually you will find 'just the opposite'.
nope, no more 'replys' after this. Y would anyone contend further with people 'like you'. Everyting I stated is common knowledge, seen in the media almost constantly by everyone (except you I guess).
No, you need to continue on in unmittigated arrogance, like most other hypocrital-anti-Christian-republican'ts, thinking you are right, this way, when it 'all comes down', it will be easier to mead justice upon you.
Actually, I really don't care what people like you think, so go argue with yourself, you pittiful creature.
"I haven't dug in the website deeply, but I'll bet that 99% of the site concerns internal matters which, quite frankly, most other countries usually won't care about, as long as we're not abusing human rights."
yea, and just what is the statistics for men and women who are/have been incarcerated some how in the usa (approaching 3-10)? and most of them (nearly all) are there illegally because they were threatened with more jail time if they 'didn't confess'??
" We aren't running over protestors with tanks like they did in Tienaman, killing people who don't agree with the current polticial climate like they did in Iraq and whatnot."
no, that's because 'Kent State' took care of that years ago..
u know, just because *YOU* can't think or reason honestly, doesn't mean you can expect others to think as ridiculous and un-american as you do.
and not only that, but it trashed my xp.
great way to get converts..
it makes you wonder if m$ is behind some of this crap..
maybe slashdot should 'check-out' stuff a little more before sending everyone to their death.
well actually there are MANY more 'little guys' who can afford your predictions on the cost of this hypothetical sea change of the current system. sooooo, i think 'we' (the little guys) just need to be patience until we figure out how to get rid of the few 'big guys' who keep jeoprodizing and threatening our internet, lifes and world..
the blox of #'s in question are mostly taken up by a small group of greedy corps and government entities...sooo, if that wasn't the case, many people, like myself would indeed 'get large blox'!
If the feds don't step in soon AND help, anarcy will, and things 'will get done' one way or another when 'The People' step into the picture:)
gee, what a shame it would be for 'the little guy' to be able to have more control over the internet!
why, the at&t's are doing such a wonderful job of keeping prices down, service high to EVERYONE, and de-centralizing the net-- so that more and more individuals can make the net more like it was meant to be (break-proof).
yea, well, i hope this case turns federal, and big changes (no matter how much it hurts initially) are made so 'the little guy' can not only keep whatever addresses/numbers that the corporations now own and control, but the direction of the net can be aimed at making the net 'corp-proof' and 'goverment' proof so EVERYONE can control it... in other words, THE WAY IT HAS TO BE-- IN ORDER FOR IT TO SURVIVE 'THE BEAST' ie.(big isp's, corps. gov. and backers of the current 'world system')
i'm sic and tired of 'worrying' about passwords, updates (bug fixes), etc..
I mean, i have to keep finding my list of 'passwords', and continuely 'worry' about security, as well as wonder if/when the new updates are going to crash my systems!!
So, what I am 'trying' to do, as a policy, is to put more energy (eventually all energy), into havin adequate 'raid' (backups) for all important data/softwares. Along with good 'record' keeping as in 'logs' so at least i might know if someone has or is trying damage anything.
This will not only free me from not worrying about something that is eventually going to happen (ie. getting hacked into or whatever with my sys), but it will leave me time to work!! And enjoy my self instead of constantly WORRYING about intruisions!
RAID (BACKUPS) ARE OUR FRIENDS!!!
I guess what I am trying to do, is to 'expand' the 'open source' philosophy, to 'life':)
I mean, if someone wants to 'steal' a brand new fancy 'cah-gee-lac' automoble, they don't have to figure out how to hac the key-less entry system, they only have to tow the car away!
If someone want to get into my house, they only have to 'bust' on in (when noones home) take or do whatever they want, and leave!!
And, if someone wants to reeeealy do something big, like 911, or whatever, all they need to do, is be VERY patient, and get in with the right people! Quite elementry actually!!
So, all of the so-called worries about system patches, hax etc, should be left to those who like to spend more time trying to 'beat' the black-hats, and i will try and spend my time 'distancing' myself from the constant concerns of passwords, encryption keys, patchs from winduhs or whoever, and instead put my energy into having fun again with linux and the net;)
kinda like, they are serious about promoting democracy in iraq when they arrest men for waiving pics of sadam?

does anyone remember 'wavetop', the name of a product which shipped with m$ around 98. its purpose was to allow 'internet content' providers access to Television's PBS (public broadcasting systems) networks around the country, by 'broadcasting' limited internet services (using push technology) using the 'un-used' portion of their (pbs's) carrier (band).
So basically the internet was being 'broadcast', although only a small, pre-determined amount, to peoples tv's (via the pc, using a tv card of course).
i forgot all i learned on my researching this idea (which was, you have to admit, a decent try at least by m$) to bring something knew and interesting to everyone, including those out in the boonies. it failed i suppose, because profit was not made 'fast enough' for the megla-maniacs to keep this interesting idea going until it was financially successful.
basically it allowed someone with a pc and m$ 98 to view a limited part of the InterNet, such as; news, sports and assorted other data on their computers-- which had a tv card installed. the computer's software (wavetop) would select the correct 'band-width'(channel) to show the users requested programming on the monitor.
it will be interesting to see if/how any of this 'old' push/pull tech makes it back with this renewed adventure into the tv spectrums by the fcc.
hopefully 'mike p.' will venture from what he does best, that is, 'try' and monitor the 'good or bad' material the masses should be 'allowed' to see, instead of having them decide to see/hear it on their own accord.. and give this apparent knew found life for parts of the tv/radio spectrum which are obviously not untilized to the max.
when i tested wavetop for the first time several months ago during my research and exitment about the product/idea, it was alot of fun... but no cigar. the program would not find a 'carier' for my local pbs tv station. but i do plan on 'playing' with it alittle more, maybe using linux (which is open to manipulating programs like wavetop) to see how/if this new idea being talked about by the fcc will possibly work.
although the business (model)for wavetop tech did not survive long, and has been poo-pooed for several years now, google still brings up several hundred pages referring to it when: *wavetop* is entered as a search item. here is a start: http://www.current.org/in/in704w.html:)
oh, kinda like how 'the great intelligence' of the usa figures out how to keep helecopters from being swatted out-of-the-sky by a third world nation's army (iraq)? Or how this 'fantastic' intel kept the second and third 911 planes from hitting populated targets? Or how the 'fraud' about 'scud (dud)' missle (defensless) is comming to light YEARS after the lies started (and hundred of lifes, thousands of injuries later)?? Hmmm?? Or,.. or..., or....
'WE DON'T' -- all know that source needs to be closed in order to 'secure'.
There is alot to be said that the more 'things', including source code is open, the easier it is to put energies into other things, including waiting to be on the offensive, for the 'instruders' who will appear at the 'open door'.
The more I 'have to' pick and remember 'passwords', nicks, etc, the more I hate the whole process, and dream of having all the 'systems' around me in life (ie not just computer stuff), 'open', so that I can have more time being creative and productive in other things, other than 'worry' constantly about 'security', when the fact of the matter is, if someone wants to 'get me', they can no matter what.
But my chances greatly improve (i theorize), if I have more time to 'be ready' and identify and nullify and 'intruders' (bad guys) in my life when I am NOT mistakenly dupped into thinking that all my worries and calclutions of nics and pw's will let me sleep tight.
As far as working on military projects as a seperate, civilian party...
It should be quite obvious by events in Iraq and recently with the Haitians, that ONLY when a certain amount of 'The People' (masses) rise up in anger, do the so-called 'official's (servents) cower back into 'their place'.
I hope many 'professional' military' people are/will join the poster in contributing to projects such as these 'directly' by 'The People'...
after all, I personally have complete confidence that 'The People' will always act correctly in all situations, including war (eventually) INSPITE of what 'the goverments' (or their supporters) say is contrary!!!:)
Ubunto is.. very VERY coool :)

I hope many 'professional' military' people are/will join the poster in contributing to projects such as these 'directly' by 'The People'... after all, I personally have complete confidence that 'The People' will always act correctly in all situations, including war (eventually) INSPITE of what 'the goverments' (or their supporters) say is contrary!!! :)
