  1. Re:Whats their contact information? on Google Sued for $1B Over Outlook Migration Tool · · Score: 3, Informative

going through the google blog search for "limitnone" i found this blog post. http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/2007/11/past-present-and-future-of-email-with.html gMOVE or "MY GRATE" (horrible name) is just an implementation of the Google Email Migration API. Hence it's open for anyone to develop their own migration tools. I really doubt that the Plaintiff's complaint that Google could NOT implement their own perhaps superior product without the knowhow of limitnone's product is legitimate. As the poster tgd states it's really a "non-obvious" idea *wink wink. It sounds like a case of quasi-developers who are trying to squeeze out all the money it can from a middling products if you can call it that.

I thought the Die Hard 4 plot was ludicrous. Apple guy: Jesus Christ. It's a fire sale. Bald Actor: What? Apple guy: It's a fire sale. Deputy Director Miguel Bowman: Hey! We don't know that yet. Token Asian Chick: And it's a myth anyway. It can't be done. Apple guy: Oh, it's a myth? Really? Please tell me she's only here for show and she's actually not in charge of anything. Bald Actor: What's a fire sale? Apple guy: It's a three-step... it's a three-step systematic attack on the entire national infrastructure. Okay, step one: take out all the transportation. Step two: the financial base and telecoms. Step three: You get rid of all the utilities. Gas, water, electric, nuclear. Pretty much anything that's run by computers which... which today is almost everything. So that's why they call it a fire sale, because everything must go. //taken from imdb with some... modifications

I think we have the 8th amendment which so states "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted." I think waving a laser around and unintentionally hitting the pilot of a helicopter goes counter to this basic right that is afforded to all American citizens. Last time I checked that "piece of paper" still meant something around here.

on a related note... there was a recent court ruling making it legal for a customer to modify his/her cell phone. I think it was on slashdot but don't want to slog through the threads. In particular was the ability to hold mp3's. In general the phone manufacturer advertises their product as having certain features... obex, mp3 etc. and carrier disables them then warns the customer of penalties if he/she wants to enable them through seem edits. Hopefully this precedent will free us from being hostages of the corporations.

"Science is much more unifying than religion." Please. Science gives more creedance to those who would advocate their own agendas. We're still sorting through the mess of Darwinism and people's appropriations of it for their own ends. i.e. social darwinism of the 1930's. And now with the misappropriation of Levitt's "Freakanomics" so a White House offical says on national radio that if we abort all black babies the crime rate will drop. Faith is not just some propaganda parental unit espouse to their brood. Its a personal choice. How that person grew up and what he/she has took in comes in as a factor but in the end its a decision they have to make for themselves. At the extremes of the sciences everything is in flux. Uncertainty and paradox are even accepted! Axioms fell apart with Gödel's proof. Science also has a tendency to cater to the priviledged since its expensive to run those labs and make those medicines. Science apparently, doesn't care what color or creed you are but it does care about your income.

RIAA AND MPAA HAVE REUNITED WITH AA. The reconciliation process was tough but the sibilings are well on their way to recovery. RIAA "It was tough you know, I was addicted and I couldn't stop, stop the pop, it was ALL about the POP. But my brother was there to give the 12 steps to get my life back in order." MPAA "T&A man T&A that's all I was thinking about 24/7. ADIDAS!" When AA was asked how he felt he responded, "It begins with admitting you've got a problem. That's step one." Their cousin NA was also at the meeting.

you say per song I was with the understanding that it was per album or rather cd. So they've made some progress? But if you account for all the figures I bet its actually still better for the labels.

  11. The artist loses out on Jobs Resists Music Industry Pressure · · Score: 1

From the last time I've read, an artist signed to a big label makes a couple of pennies per cd sold. That bulk of the money goes to pay for distribution, marketing and legal costs. If these costs have been dramatically reduced then their percentage of an album sold has greatly been reduced. Well I can't really cry a river for the pop megalomanics. But perhaps artists can bargain for more money, instead of relying on publishing to be their main source of income. With digital distribution the notion of a successful album doesn't have to mean platinum or gold level sales but the percentage of profit. Since the costs to sell is so much lower the amount of profit made from digital sales of 150k would be much greater than a album that sold 500k or gold album status.

  12. worthless projections on Maturing Net Grows More Slowly · · Score: 1

to say that if things are kept as 'is' the internet will top off at 3Tb/s (international) in 2008 is crazy. Currently we share movies and music through file sharing. But those are only at current encoded sizes. Increase the bandwidth and somebody is going to think of something to fill it with. Entertainment will change, consumer consumption of media through the computer will change. Who's to say that the average consumer will not move on to file sharing as well. If as one poster said, that file sharing and p2p traffic was only a fraction what if the sharing process was simplified enough to bring in the mainstream user. In the US alone there is huge room for such growth. Verizon is currently offering their FIOS service only at rich neighborhoods around my area so when fiber hits with a minimum throughput of 15mb/s downstream I can only imagine at the amount of bits coarsing through the internet. This article was so ill conceived. Its like something I saw in Conneticut. A local McD's had a sundae for $1.06(US) buy another for $2.12(US)Currently the amount of traffic flowing between nations is approximately one terabit per second. If growth rates hold up this is likely to hit three terabits per second by 2008. its 2005 and 2008 is uhh...in 3 years so if the current rate is 1Tb/s then in 3 years... What kinda journalism is this?!
