I grew up in a town with a big government nuclear research facility (Lawrence Livermore Nuclear Laboratory), and then I moved directly to the Hippie/Commie Vortex in south Bezerkley. Once people cross a certain threshold of parroting verbatim the propaganda from their side's P.O.V., I can tell that no amount of discussion will perturb their faith. I try to sustain my skepticism, and not always believe everything I think. I do tend to lean towards a cautious approach, however, when it comes to irrevocably destroying the life-sustaining features of our home planet. Warp-drive research still has a long way to go, and some of us may wish to continue living here for a while.
Due to the "classified" nature of the information, I was never able to learn if this was getting mopped up into a bucket or just soaking straight into the ground while they topped up the radiator. I've always wondered. I also wondered about that anomalous Melanoma cluster on the east end of town, but I've been assured that that was merest coincidence. (Those Widow's husbands ALL worked at the Lab, three out of three in a three-block area. Melanoma was alleged to be rare at that time.) Just sayin'.
I remember when we had an earthquake in Livermore and one of the reactors was leaking three quarts per minute of the cooling water. We were assured that this was harmless, and that they had patched it up in about a week. I never heard any one but my friends and neighbors grumble about that, and only a few of them were actually physicists, so what do they know.
Great chance for noobs to try removing crap until something breaks, and then see if they got a usable "recovery disc" with their OS. That's how I got started with computers.
I don't think you're counting the U.S. Military as a subsidy, but IIRC most of our road trips in the last century boiled down to preserving our control over the lands vital to our energy interests. Repatriating our energy supply would make our military mostly redundant, IMHO.
I have a tenant who is lamely trying to up the QOS on the eight neighbor's routers that he gets his free internet from, so he can drop his phone service as well. I don't know what type his router is, I tend to shun felonious operations.
IIRC our pal Osama has been sharing that plan with anyone who'd listen for quite some time. I know it's fiction, but I always admired the way James Mowry did it, without even blowing himself up.
All this discussion, and I thought it was common knowledge- how to manipulate good-will, and leverage little investments like free coffee, into employee loyalty and acceptance of (laughably) lower wages. I guess not everyone follows the same model, but I've always seen it working quite well. I do like my coffee!
The Maginot Line provided a lot more gainful employment than these devices do. This is the new cold war. (I bet all the big bucks in the future of the nuclear weapon biz are going towards the new frontiers of maintenance and clean-up. All the investment of the last sixty or so years was just the "special introductory price low-down-payment".) The bill is in the mail.
We've bred Aurochs, and Dogs, and Guinea Pigs. When I read about these a few years ago, I thought maybe I would adopt one, as they seem a little cooler than Felix domesticus.
I didn't RTFA today, NYT doesn't serve us poor people. Did they do a competency test of the doctors? My wild-ass-guess would be that there MIGHT BE a correlation between more deficient MDs and the situations where they would encounter the less-advantaged patients. God knows, if I had to treat the tweakers I see lined up at the local soup kitchen, I might be more inclined to call in sick and go look for a better job.
The problem with "Filthy Speech" as an absolute principle is that it is all ugly, and prickly, as a matter of fact. It is absolutely critical to the free exchange of ideas, however.

Is in the air, for you and me.

I'm going to digitize my data and sell it on my own web site. Use the DMCA to go after those fuckers.
C-20 has such a short half-life that it doesn't have much effect on the climate.

Spread pretty thin nowadays.
RTFA Use the cell phone after onset of Alzheimer's.

You try tellin' the kids that nowadays, they won't believe ya'.

Expensive new imaging devices generate fees. Tax dollars FTW!
Who's gonna install old XP on one of these new HDDs? HIBT?

Ah the internet, an endless fount of useful knowledge.
I saw a picture, that may be correct.
44 years sounds good... wait, did this guy serve more than one term?
I'm not sure I like where this is going. Even I have my standards.

I have some property that is ten meters above Sea Level. Are you interested?
