You don't want ads, and you don't want to do micropayments. How is online content supposed to work? It costs money/time to make good stuff - and someone needs to be compensated. What about TV-style ads that only occur every n minutes, then go away? Free will only last so long... -- OliverWillis.Com
Hey, you livejournal folks, instead of spamming up Slashdot - why don't you make a good product instead of slamming Blogger? Calling them the "Microsoft of Blogging" is just your pathetic effort to look like the little guy. Blogger is one guy now, and they come off a whole lot better than you... -- OliverWillis.Com

Will you livejournal folks stop being such sycophants? Blogger, Manila, etc. aren't competing with you. If someone chooses one tool over another don't take it personally. Stop bragging - makes you look worse than you are. -- OliverWillis.Com
The only way we're going to be able to change this climate is by effecting real legislative change. Both Senators Orrin Hatch and Patrick Leahy have signalled to us that they may make a stance if there is support.
The only way to do that is to fight the RIAA and their ilk on the same turf: lobbying congress. Whether it's through an arm of the EFF or a Slashdot-started group, the time is now.
Usually I support the Slashdot fellows, but it's a little strange that a link to Newsforge (part of the Andover/Slashdot nexus) is from an "unnamed correspondent"?
I don't see the tech industry, or ANY large industry as being racist in and of itself.
One person can be racist -- but is that the fault of the company? No. Its the fault of the managers.
But it becomes the fault of the company when they are made aware of the behavior and do nothing to correct it... -- OliverWillis.Com
I listen to Larry's radio show, and while I disagree with around 65-80% of what he says, I do agree with his disdain for the "world owes me a living" attitude that is so prevalent in the black community. Instead of trying to fix community-based problems, the easy way is to "blame the white man". -- OliverWillis.Com
In my experience it's always amused me at the reaction I get when I come in for an interview. On the phone, it would be near impossible for someone to realize that I'm black - I have a classic "white" voice. They read my resume and probably talk to me on the phone, but you can see a look of surprise in many an interviewer's eyes when his next applicant is a 6 foot tall black guy. -- OliverWillis.Com

Agreed. I see a lot of disappointment among "internet fans" when this film does "okay" at the box office, a far cry away from the cultural phenom they predict. I expect "Spiderman" to do a lot better... -- DigitalContent PAC

The guys over at online comic strip Penny Arcade have collected over $2,000 in a few weeks through Amazon's Honor System.
Seems to me a much better way to subsidize good online content without obnoxious ads, etc.

That's why there won't be any bidding wars for players, etc.
