Those people have nothing on us!!

Check out my site, and you will see that the complete Biohome system is a) self sustaining for ALL cycles and utilities (electricity, water, air, heat, sewage, etc) and b) is inherently encased in a superior architecture that resists fire, earthquakes, all weather, etc. that can be completely sealed from the outside if done properly. Set this baby up right, and you could chip it off the Earth and float it in orbit.

My suggestion to you is to remember that no amount of money or paycheck is worth your happiness. If working two jobs for the added security helps bring you to a higher level of satisfaction with yourself, then do it... because that time spent at your job is coming out of your life!

Some people require the security. Some people require the money to survive. Some people are trying to save up for a better day. Some people want the benefits that Starbucks offers because the lame staffing company won't give out benefits. If I were you, I'd check my motivation and reasons for holding down two jobs and determine how important your reasoning is in your life.

While I did grow up watching a hefty amount of cartoons, I was also absorbed into educational TV, such as PBS and Discovery Channel, and lots of cooking shows. We never watched sports at my house just because nobody (not even Dad) found any entertainment value in sports. The end results: I'm a total geek who loves to cook! Aside from that, I may be a little ADHD myself, but I never was pinned down and medicated or psychoanalyzed. I just had good parents who were attentive to my needs. When they saw I was restless, they sent me outside to ride on my bike for the afternoon. When they saw I was bored, they would give me something fun to do. I would wager that there is a connection between ADHD and poor parenting. Perhaps a study should be done on the moms and dads of ADHD children, analyzing their choices in how to raise their children. The numbers there might be a bit more staggering.

  13. The truth about corporate conglomerate cats & on Sun and Microsoft Settle Litigation · · Score: 1, Funny

(I know I'm risking being a troll, but whatever)

    First, the devil's advocate voice:
Microsoft produced their products with the strategy, speed, and skill of McDonalds. They built a product (let's start with DOS) that was accessible, simple, and usable by any idiot. They struck intelligible deals with massive companies to get their product out there, and out there it went! They built a business using typical strong and fierce business tactics.

    Okay Microsoft, you win.

Thus, like a spoiled child, Microsoft decided to use its leverage to wield God-like powers in the computing world, the corporate business world, and every buzzword-labeled stage (e-business?) in between. For example, the price alone of their core OS jumped in multiples when going from DOS to Windows. The Windows concept isn't even Microsoft - Xerox came out with the first GUI interface!

By creating and patenting a standard, the toe-hold is impossible to break. This will make things practically impossible for other companies to have any sort of success.

    Why? Because they can!

Is it a good thing that anti-trust suits are being filed? I'm curious if that's the only option for the rest of the computing world. It's like watching an election. Microsoft is a lot like the Republican party. All the Republicans boost and support their one icon-puppet into office, because they know that no matter who's in office, it's a Republican in office, and they all look and talk the same. That unity, no matter how evil and horrible, gets success. Meanwhile, the Democrats (and all the remaining 3rd parties) are scrambling about in free will, trying to agree on someone who is able to represent the common voice of the common people... unfortunately, the common voice is so diverse and spread apart, the concept of a "common voice" is obsolete.

Hopefully, one of these days, the dust will settle and we can all join hands and sing folk songs around a campfire.

  17. POTS is the Darwin-cousin of the Combustion Engine on Audio/Video Conference with iChat and AIM · · Score: 1
    Here's my insight on this...

In comparison to the typical gasoline engine, we have had technology to make existing gas-guzzlers obsolete for many years. If we built solar-powered or hybrid electric cars with similar intense fervor during the 70's and 80's (a time when muscle cars were popular and global warming was just a myth) we all might be driving energy efficient cars.

Unfortunately, there is a socio-economic system built around the oil/gas/auto industry that supports hundreds of millions of global citizens. I don't know the numbers, but the number of people with jobs related to the "Industry", not to mention family members they support, is really high. The shock to the system as it is would be damaging.

And yes, the thought of such makes me sick.

Why am I saying this? Because POTS is much the same way. Maybe not so much with the jobs, but just the fact that there exists systems upon systems in a strange diseased equilibrium.

In the big picture, unless you're in a sealed contained network (like the folks at Symantec or McAfee who do virus testing), you're more than likely plugged into Ma Bell's copper somewhere. Even cell phones hit carriers between antennas because for long distances, more copper = clearer connections.

Mac's and Penguins and WinTelBorg machines are talking, but they are talking through copper. This copper has to be maintained somehow. I have ADSL at home, but SBC still requires me to have a land line. The cost of the DSL makes up for half of my bill; the other half is for the phone line.

Absurd, isn't it? Call up Comcast and ask them for their rates and packages... you can't get Cable Internet without getting Cable first.

What you're seeing is the people owning Level 1 wires reaping the profits and hearing complaints from those who work with the entire OSI model.

The solution? I don't know yet... maybe mental telepathy will prevail in twenty years. Perhaps prior to that, Bluetooth-style technology will ravage the lands. I know I plan on getting a ham license someday and building packet-radio...

    IMHO

I'm completely sick of politics and funding getting in the way of proper science and research. I honestly believe that this is really a ploy to involve the aerospace industry as an election scheme.

Think about it... GWB is already throwing all kinds of defense contracts at Boeing, Lockheed, and the like... all of whom also make gear and components that launch into orbit. Sending money this way creates jobs. New jobs for GWB's adopted brainchild improves his public opinion. Then the added bonus comes in of the Bush's Administration having primary involvement in the Space Station, as well as other such projects (do the words "Star Wars" ring a bell?).

Please don't get me wrong... I believe in NASA's purpose and would like to see space exploration become a higher priority. I would like to see more and better studies of planets and heavenly bodies, as well as the effects & potentials for human life outside the atmosphere. I'm a child of the 80's, I know the excitement of watching a launch... even if it was only on TV.

This is why I'm so %&$@ bitter! Grand-scale goals that affect more than "a few people" are being decided with respect to the fate of less than "a few people"... I hope that makes sense.

  20. Load me up baby! on Which Instant Coffee? · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, due to health reasons I must restrict my caffeine intake. Ergo, I am destined to drink mass quantities of decaf coffee, as I am addicted to the flavor. However, I have some insights anyway. Kona is always good for moderate caffeine, low acidity, and great flavor. French press or drip is typically best. I have yet to find an instant that I like, but the Folger's Singles are good in a pinch. Coffee in a teabag is the perfect balance of convenience and quality (and for the price, Folger's isn't terribly bad... unless you're a Gloria Jean snob) The decaf-run got me into drinking a lot more tea. I go through "Picard" periods where I swill Earl Grey with cream and sugar. Great with scones!
