Ever since i was a kid i've used Hydrogen Peroxide on my open wounds to kill off bacteria...Hurts a bit..
I'm hoping I'm not the only one who was taught this?
*damn you parents*
Have any Slashdot readers ever actually used the backwards compatibility on their PlayStation 2?
Yes, maybe two or more years ago. I never owned an original Playstation and liked some of the games (tony hawk 1 & 2, gran turismo 1 & 2, final fantasy 7 & 9 to name a few). I never owned a dvd player either. So when I bought my PS2, I got a 3-in-1 deal and it was well worth it. I never play any PS1 games anymore since i have about 25 PS2 games (Playstation2 titles are way better then Xbox IMO)
I don't think George Bush Jr. has ever heard about very wise man that was named Ben Franklin.
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Since when constant updates are a bad thing?
I dunno...heres an idea, bug check your software BEFORE u release it. Back in the day (TM) games that came out on console had to be thoroughly bug tested as there was no internet or way to patch your NES cartridge... We have come, or gone back, a long way since then.
My old pentium 75mhz with a 4mb ATI Xpert@Play played quake2 just fine....whats your point?
In other news...I just upgraded my Geforce FX 5600 drivers and Commander Keen runs great!
This almost makes me feel a little outdated. I think I'm the only one left that has a normal cell phone.
I dont own a cell phone, you incensitive clod!
1gb is enough, I have a lowly 128mb mp3 player and it works great, stores 20-30 songs and I can replace those when I get bored with them... Do u really need 1000+ songs? will u even listen to them all? how will you organize them? the list of questions goes on.
The death camps wouldn't have been possible without IBM
Yes, lets blame IBM for the holocaust because Nazis used punch cards to help persecute the jews.
Just because someone misuses technology does not make said technology EVIL.
Because the patch is shoddy and causes more problems then it fixes.

SYMPTOMS
After you install the security update that is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may experience any one of the following symptoms:
* Your computer appears to stop responding at startup.
* You cannot log on to Windows.
* Your CPU usage for the System process approaches 100 percent.
The problem isn't with internet explorer. It's with a program called lsass.exe or the "Local Security Authority System Service".
It takes advantage of the open ports in Windows (as if microsoft didnt learn from NetBios).
In Windows 2000/XP/2003, Microsoft added the possibility to run SMB directly over TCP/IP, without the extra layer of NetBT. For this they use TCP port 445.
Check if port 445 is open on your system (you have to do a regedit hack to close it)
15kb/sec down and 45k/sec upstream and u think this is eating Time Warners bandwidth?
Try setting the upload limit to 15k/sec so u can actually get a decent download rate.
Additionally, any real game player knows that playing the bloody game is *much* better than watching mindless mini-sequences.
I agree totally. Playing Final Fantasy X was hell. It had great graphics, but 10+ hours of movies you have to sit through and CANNOT skip are horrible.
One thing I cant stand is a game that has 5 minutes of gameplay, followed by 5 minutes of cutscenes, then more gameplay, repeat. Just let us play!
Thingies in close combat are sharp, background gets blurry. Wonder why more games don't use simple tricks like this =)
Lots of game programmers use this trick. When an object is far away, u dont need to draw all the polygons of the object because some of the vertices are so close together. So u can speed up the rendering by lowering the detail in objects that are farther away to put it simply.
Not if the company wants to make more money... that's probably why they are outsourcing in the first place.
Also bringing jobs to these countries reduces the terror threat
I don't think this will reduce terrorism, if people are crazy enough to be terrorists, i dont think they'll all the sudden decide to become a game programmer or designer when the opportunity arises.
These are jobs none of us are willing to do, not the good jobs
Game programming and design is a job no one wants to do? I for one do and I know several of my friends are in interested in game design aswell.
Too bad the don't write the code under the GPL, then we could see real productivity increases.
Just because a program is under the GPL does not mean coders productivity will automatically increase.

Now releasing drivers monthly.
Those must be really good/stable drivers if they come out with new ones every month...
can you run a mobile webserver with it? that would be dope.
You know how quickly that phone would get slashdotted?

Is there any point in getting one of these cards for any reason other than playing the latest games? Yes there is, rendering 3D scenes or models.
Of course its located in the registry in the startup location and will be restarted everytime you reboot.
r entVersion\Run
Check the startup registry path for "Avservt.exe":
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur

If you read any of the reports, Microsoft's patch for sassar causes more problems then it fixes.
What the heck are the doing running Windows boxen anyway? And how about firewall? All you have to do is block port 445.

The above site has a detailed information on howto use regedit.exe to disable port 445 in Win2k/XP.

but would love to see a version with KOffice, LaTeX and possibly other stuff.
They do have a version with KOffice and LaTeX, its called version 3.3

Only $125,000 per episode? I mean common, How is someone supposed to put food on the table with that measly sum.
Game prices will go down

Well, if it was that certain male organ, a 5-9% increase would be fairly dramatic.
You can always customize your mozilla splash screen by placing a file named "Mozilla.bmp" in your mozilla directory.
Link to some splash screens you can download:

I'd like to know if they actually purchased that piece of software or they downloaded it, since it is expensive and all.
