    I live in Illinois and this is typical of the shenanigans this Chicago machine politician is pulling that are angering many members of even his own party. There's no end to his ignorance about how to make things work in the real world.

    I've only had one problem and that was resolved quickly and satisfactorily. I bought a used camera and the shutter did not work. I got a prompt and courteous refund including the postage.

    My feedback rating of 156 (The difference between that and the 171 is due to multiple auctions with the same buyer/seller), 100% good represents about a 50/50 mix of sales and purchases.

    Of course there are people who experience problems. Given the huge number of buyers and sellers, there are bound to be some crooks, but like any flea market, buyer beware - just use common sense.

    From their web page: "The FCC sets aside frequencies between 420 MHz and 450 MHz for Amateur use, thus we are complying with the standard by transmitting our signal at 433MHz." IAHRO (I'm a ham radio operator - for 46 years.) It is fine to transmit on 433 MHz IF they have an FCC license and the transmitter identifies it's call sign at the proper interval. Otherwise, it's not legal.

    Amateur radio does not mean unlicensed. Getting a license is very easy. Check with your local ham radio club for details or visit http://www.arrl.org/

    project back in 1973/74. What a great calculator for it's time!! I designed the electronics for the card reader and the power supply section as well as the charger/adapter. There's one of those around somewhere in my calculator collection. I also still have a good working TI-150 handheld with the larger gas discharge display.

    Did you ever see an SR-60? That was the desktop with the dot-matrix display. I did the card reader electronics as well as some of the main board circuitry on that one, too.

    I worked as a patent consultant briefly and in a short time saw a couple of perpetual motion schemes. The most elaborate was proposed by a bank security guard and involved a hydraulic pump and motor combined with an electric motor and generator.

    I explained that energy in a system worked like a bank account (bank guard -remember?) You put energy in and you can take it back out, but you can't get quite as much back out as you put in because there was a service charge in the form of friction. He begrudgingly understood. I complemented him on his nice drawings.

    If you'll notice, your regular landline phone supplies feedback of your voice through the earpiece. In the telephone industry this is called sidetone.     My wife and I are around 60 and our TV watching, especially network shows, is almost nil.

    This is hardly a new thing. In Newton Minow's speech to the National Association of Broadcasters on May 9, 1961, some 43 years ago, he described Television programming as a "Vast Wasteland". Folk's, it's not gotten better.

    I will admit to some watching of the History channel, but get quite irritated at them when they delve into pseudo-scientific subjects. Other than that, I get my news and weather from the Internet and the Internet is where I meet my friends.

    That's the real problem. There's just too danged many of us gobbling up Earth's limited resources.

    Look folks, we either expand outwards or the "Malthusian solution" kicks in eventually. All the good "Green" things we may do, just put that day off. Not that I've not done my share of teeming with 5 kids, 7 grandkids, another on the way and counting... I'd like to think that perhaps some of their children will be pioneers off Earth.

    Never a problem with a preview window, never a problem with an virii. It's text only, but you can view attachments if you take a specific action to do so. I'm sure you can find a download of it somewhere out there. I'm behind a NAT router firewall and use a software firewall to see if anyone is "Phoning Home." Also AVG with auto check for updates every morning. Ad-aware and spybot once a week. Last virus I got was in 1998 and it came in on a CD a friend had burned.     and only one way to deliver ham radio. Piping through the Internet doesn't count since in a disaster the Internet is likely to be down.

    I'm like the other fellow ham above in that if this comes to my neighborhood, I'll be doing a LOT of HF operation during prime time and I'll probably get an amplifier instead of my normal QRP (low power) modes.

    I've been very pleased to find *free* wired ethernet connections at a number of Best Westerns, even in places like Muscogee, OK and Springfield, MO. Holiday Inn Express seems now to have a lot of wi-fi enabled locations, too. I've been very annoyed with some Hiltons that don't have broadband and insist on charging &.75 per local phone call with additional charges after 30 minutes while right next door a Hampton owned by the same company has unlimited free local calls. Guess which one I choose. I've run into other higher-end hotels that either charge for broadband if they have it, or charge for local calls if they don't The worst one I ran into was a major hotel in downtows Ft. Worth, TX where they said they had Internet access and I saw an ethernet jack on the wall I agreed to pay the extra fee of $9.95 for it only to learn that it was actually just another phone line! I said no thanks and used the room line for my dialup and got charged for local calls. :(
