I just have to comment on this, you beat me on telling the story about the very good swedish system. And it really is, I was really surprised this year when I had to do my tax return on the web, since I wasn't in sweden at the time. It's actually user friendly with buttons to press for explenation of all the fields to fill in and it calculates things for you and stuff like that. Someone really thought this through!
But, sadly, "BankID" isn't platform independent. It might be from specification, but it really doesn't work. And some people doesn't want it to work either.
My tax return didn't take much time to perform. But getting the BankID to work was another story.
I quit riding the M$ pony a long time ago and what bothers me alot is that there are still alot of web pages (such as banks who issues BankID certificates) which are so sure that I can't use it allthough I actually can.
Very well, after a bit of bank-tricking-business and wasting 5 broken certificates (they expire fast when they notice you don't run windows), it finally worked. Hope I won't have to repeat the story next year. And hopefully someday the government will learn to withdraw funding to organisations which claim they're offering a public service when it's actually an M$ service.
I did that two years ago. That is, left windows on another partition when I had migrated almost completely to linux.
Since my linux did most of the work for me I didn't boot to windows during a couple of mounths, but then , for unknown reasons today, I had to do something in windows. And BAM! My network connection was cut after a couple of minutes (university network) because of a worm who got into my system.
I deleted the partition. Told my netadmin about it. Got my network connection back and NEVER looked back at windows again.
Now the question is: Would it be wise to buy windows, so that I need to buy a "dedicated firewall" to protect it, so that I can buy alot of modern hardware so that I can buy games to play in windows, which I have to reboot twice a day and reinstall every now and then?
You wanna learn something about the GNU/Linux system. You should try out Linuxfromscratch (lfs) http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/!
But somehow I think it doesn't really do the job either. Still the system contol in gentoo is nothing compared to lfs.
Yes. There will always be some that have less than the ones that have more. But as the world looks today there are some who have awfully alot of everything and some who have almost nothing of the rest. It wouldn't hurt to even that out a bit, would it?
And the worst is that the ones haveing alot often benefits from the ones haveing nothing. And the fact that they are poor helps them in a beneficial way.
And just because someone has less, do they really have to be loosers? Do you desperately need loosers to feel you have more?
It said it would be wise to move the closing button a pixel or two to make the closing of programs very simple.
Well that doesn't concearn me very much. Thanks to Linux, I don't close any programs.
Sadly everyone else closes my programs all the time. And I loose that one week tab collection. *sob*
Oh well. 10mbit both ways fiber has been not so unusual in sweden for the last years. With 100mbit comming, or already there.
And without restriction that is to. For about $30 a month.
The drawback is it's only available for the ones living in the lucky buildings, but it's quite widespread.
uh? What user protections?
I once without problems managed to log in as guest on my friends "unconfigured" computer (xp). Oh yes I couldn't do much but I could view and delete her files.
I don't need a google toolbar to do that, windows already does it for me...
I thought USA was more like east of you guys? ;)
As mentioned earlier, here in the west (Sweden/Europ), 100 mbit symmetric is available for those who consider themselves to need it.

Can you name any quantum computer?

Or should I just stick to linux?

Does this mean I can have a girlfriend?

Do you USA:ians have a mcdonalds "restaurant" and coke-machines aboard the ISS?
Yay! Mod points to that one!

I always got Windows late and with bugs! I don't want to imagine what it would be like in Japan...
Well thet's because this company has to hold their users captive to keep them from migrating. IKEA doesn't have problems with Linux...

And Canada is in America. Eh?
It's not too uncommon that when something happens for the first time in America the americans consider it to be the first time in the world...
