China uses the same tactics as the US did during the cold war. The tell their people how corrupt and evil everyone else is and the only way to be 'pure' is to give up as much as they can to the government. As long as they keep the west as the big bad wolf they will keep their people in line. Oh wait that's the same thing that's happening to us!
I don't know what your bitching about but for $25 and a USB wifi dongle you can run XBMC off this nicely (I can attest as I run it off my lower spec iPhone 3GS) and use a remote control app to use it. Maybe get a hub and connect your wifi as well as a Bluetooth adapter for a keyboard/mouse. I find it hard to believe there are this many nay-Sayers on this forum about a really cheap and fairly robust piece of hardware we all have the specs to.
This is likely a wide brush they are tarring people with. I would imagine any torrent site that takes donations would have just as much trouble as anyone else. From what I have seen from PayPals actions they figure if they can accuse both sides of the transaction with something they get to keep the money for themselves. I hope if the really do try to get any bigger than they are they are regulated tightly.
So the idea is to patent a party then eh? The Human Operating System is a clever one though, probably give a way to work around it since it would be tough to argue if the system is actually operating the "human" or vice versa. With the cost of lawyers now a days it's probably cheaper to hand out a couple bucks then get legal to start billing their hours anyway.
That is so wrong you actually were able to negate the entire definition. The fractional reserve system is there for select banks only. The Federal Reserve will allow these banks to over extend all of their assets in pursuits of loans on the promise that the Fed will rescue them if enough people pull their money out.
So a non backed bank would actually have to make $1 to loan out one dollar. While a Fed backed bank would only have to have someone else deposit the same $1 in hopes you won't come back to get it before they get paid back on the loan, if so they call up the Fed and ask for the balance. While the entire idea of the system is to make money out of nothing the whole time to cover the people pulling the money out while loans are being collected, no one starts reclaiming the money once the loans are paid. So you get inflation. Now the Fed says to everyone at once we are no longer going to cover anyone (see 2008 TARP) so now someone else has to take the debt which is the government (in other words the people) while taking houses and lives at a fraction of their actual cost all being earmarked by cotton based currency.
What difference does it make both operate using the same tool set. Microsoft sends out updates via untrusted networks to verify system files and attempts to rectify compromised files. Bot-nets will get you through security issues, 0-day attacks and click happy users.
From a legal prospect it would seem as an amazing scape goat. Also it could prove Sony had a role in letting the service continue running on cruise control while knowing it was likely to break down.
The bounty really has not that much to do with it. Publicity, books, day time TV shows, etc, can be very profitable. If he does find the remains also many other wealthy 'explorers' might hire him to look for various other things at amazing markup. So even if he fails he still gets to sell to the skeptics his findings as well as more books than if he did find the remains.
Stupid comments like yours makes me laugh. Why do you think people are buying this stuff? Why do you think people consciously put their money into GPUs when they build/buy their machines? Why do you think manufacturers make them in the first place? All this stuff happens because we want to take this and make something with it. With this technology even low end electronics will likely have some excellent interactive abilities, low power consumption, etc, etc. If you really have a problem with this kind of stuff buy a calculator. As far as crypto goes it's still not as quick as you think brute forcing even 128 bits from top to bottom and bad security will get hacked by a kid on his Motorolla Razr, don't worry yet about crypto yet when it's easier just to drop a few Bobby Tables then anything else right now anyway.
Nothing beats an old Laserjet IMHO.
As long as there is case law where the average citizen will get the same repercussions for the same senario I completely agree with you.

Ye asks and ye shall receive.

Just remember that when you 'punch the monkey' and win an iPod
If the software wasn't written properly to begin with, what metric are we now using to establish it is operating "properly" ?
British, nothing to see here move along!
Once you lack enough trust in your own people to have secrets then everything is potentially a secret, even the most sincere communications.
Not really, it is about who thinks you infringe on their patent and how much they can invest in legal action.

Just curious ... How did you infer hatred in the above post?
Where ever you can get it. Sciencedaily.com is one and a subscription to Science (AAAS) is another.

That is pretty much it.

Hey, I have the entire public IPV4 address space in my hosts file you insensitive clod!

Neither of them will win.
The mods are killing you but it is amazing how right you really are.

This is Slashdot, the start tag was posted in 1999.
Choice person has to make choice ;)

I think the main thing is that China has a shiny new toy and won't likely share with anyone. The geeks are jealous, as am I :)
Also by the time it's released you will likely be able to buy a used computer that will best the new system for cheaper.
