I still have a 386 (20MHz) full of the games I bought 10 years ago (all the LucasArts adventure games for example...) And I'm sure I'll play Half-Life or Quake 2 in a few years just for the fun of it. As for my game consoles, I'm playing Super Mario 3 on the NES right now. Is there a problem with that?
That was my first thought: Bonzi Buddy! But this IMSmarter seems like the first cross-platform "spyware" if it's not installing anything and just using IM protocols. At least, you won't get viruses with this one, just a big privacy invasion.
That's why we have asymetric encryption: you can use your GnuPG public key with any kind of software now, whether it's an e-mail or Jabber client like Psi.
I'm scared of the last part of the message: While almost everything looks normal there, the following white
cell counts are (barely) out of the normal range:
A friend who is studying medecine said to me once: Don't you EVER try to do or reaching any conclusion on your own if you have not studied for at least 5 years. I'd like to add: DON'T ASK/.! IT'S NOT FUNNY, ASK A F***ING SPECIALIST!
For the first time in my life I wrote a useful program: a BT client! The protocol is very easy to understand and the client easy to write. I would hate to be sued for just writing some stupid code on a keyboard and I know now what is the real difference between creating tools and using them to infringe on copyrights. Unix is a tool, someone could use it to wreak havoc across the earth but it's still a great tool. BT works great for big files which can be either Linux ISOs or DivX. Of course I don't expect the justice of my country to understand between a Linux and a DivX...
I love how DVDs' prices are decreasing and will one day be lower than audio CDs' prices. How is it possible for such an old technology to be so expensive? (I know the answer but I'd really like their point of view...)
It's a good thing the chip is user-controlled, because right now I wished I could remove the DRM copy-protection on those new Audio CDs. The purpose of this technology is not to protect you, it's been made to prevent people from illegal copies. Everything is FUD until it's true, this thing will soon be abused, trust me.
I still play Sam & Max, DOTT, MI 1, 2, 3 & 4... For most Lucasarts games you can use the ScummVM to play on most platforms (Linux included of course).
What I miss the most is a good cross-platform open-source adventure game engine I could script in the language I like the most (Ruby of course... but Python would be good too). I could try to write something but I'm too much of a n00b for such a project:(
A few days ago, I would have said that Linux is good and makes you happy. I'm installing Linux from scratch right now, I'm having fun (playing Solitaire while compiling is great) but I'm actually learning what and how is an OS supposed to work inside!! Even if you program with the Win32 APIs, you can't learn anything from it.
Well, I bought them today and found the movies quite good (some small sound problems in the beginning but almost nothing). What I loved is that although George Lucas cleaned the movie and added a lot of SFX, it is so kitsch you still see the original SW behind (all the costumes, haircuts...). You can buy it safely, your "child's dreams" have not been destroyed;)
I try never to say me too! but the guy is so right: I stopped watching TV three years ago and I don't really miss it. I watch a few DVDs on my PC but instead of wasting 3 or 4 hours every day doing nothing, I learn, I read, I play (Go for example!) It won't bring you a GF or friends, but it's better than doing nothing in your life.
I don't want to insult anyone, but I spoke with chinese students who came in my college to study CS and they had strange answers when I asked about the chinese gov., libery, privacy... They seemed more interested in what capitalism in communist China could bring them (like cell phones and junk food) than censorship.
What? but there's no censorship in China? I almosted laughed when I heard that one. Maybe they were just young, but it was disturbing.
and the next big thing (HD DVD) is more likely, which of course he will be able to milk then too.
But won't it be too late? I mean, I'm not even sure I will buy the DVDs released today. And when the original SW will be released on SuperUltraHDVD (in something like 10 years), all the geeks who wanted to buy the movies will be either too old or won't care anymore about all this. And will the original material be preserved enough to allow a clean copy to a new kind of DVD?
I don't understand you: you make it sound like it's a bad thing it's not covered by the GPL. But their license allows you to use it in a commercial product (with your modifications) without restrictions. It won't prevent commercial games to be written from it.
Without a doubt it's a xor used with a key length of a few bytes. xor + small_key = cypher for dummies, it's an old standard for those who don't care about security.
I've seen hundred (if not thousand) of game sountracks sold on audio CDs (imported from Japan) and Nintendo could say they lose money because of these projects. And for the licensing issues, it's purely commercial: you can't remix Britney Spears for free, you can't remix Nintendo (or Sony...) for free.

The Lion King is a story pathetically stolen from Osamu Tezuka (god of japanese comics), it's not original.
;)
OTOH Lilo & Stitch was good, too good to be written by Disney

It's not retarded at all. It's a huge step for all the new patents to come. We're approaching the patent on patents at great speed! It's coming!!!

Yes, Star Wars is not sci-fi and I have three girlfriends next to me begging for sex while I post stupid comments on /.!

I'm sure you can be interested in this official windows update (39kb)

Shaking his walking stick? more like crapping his pants, but he'll blame it on Linus.
I prefer: Engineer with 20 years of experience in quantum encryption (I'm sorry if you don't get this rather cryptic joke...)
How dare you say Edika is not safe for work? You definitely should read all his comics (if it's been translated...)

You think it's so easy? I just cracked all your files and I found you have a huge collection of tentacle porn!

And who would be the kidnapped princess? CmdrTaco?
